Before his death, Anthony had suffered years of physical, sexual and emotional abuse at the hands of family members, according to the Department of Children and Family Services. Caseworkers responded to 12 different complaints between February 2013 and April 2016, including sexual abuse by a grandparent when Anthony was 4, and general neglect.

With everything that has happened in the last few days with regards to the DA, I won't be surprised if the special allegation charges are dropped as well as them not seeking the death penalty.

Someone on here (mothwings) called Anthony's mother and stepfather sub-humans, and I agree 100%. What was done to this young boy is horrendous, and it isn't the first time social services didn't do their job in my opinion. How many Anthony's does there have to be before our social services system is finally 'taken to task' for their lack of assistance in these cases, and family, friends and neighbors finally speak out until someone HEARS?! My heart truly breaks for all this young boy endured.

Barron, 31, and Leiva, 35, could now face a maximum of life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted as charged of murder and torture, along with the special-circumstance allegation of murder involving the infliction of torture, for Anthony's June 2018 death.

I'm honestly surprised LWOP is still on the table but Hatami will do what he can to get it. He's the most high profile DA speaking out against Gascon and his policies.
