The truck shown in the videos looks to be of a newer age, so should have GPS (I would think). Great question.
They apparently stopped on Kelbaker Road and then walked along a dirt road (not very easy for a big trailer) to the dunes and dry lake bed. I wish the Sheriff would provide a map. People often go way further than searchers may think.
The main road, which she was pretty close to when last seen, is the main north south road through the Mojave Preserve and yes, on a Friday, tons of traffic headed toward Vegas. And some headed south, toward Joshua Tree. Not like bumper to bumper traffic, but more than an occasional car.
The missing beer container (whatever kind it was) is concerning, one would think she'd have dropped it if someone grabbed her - although it's possible they picked it up, too. Seems really really unlikely that she would not stay near the RV and since she had to cross the road to get to it, she may never have gotten to it. My mind goes to her getting hit by a car, driver then decided to do a cover-up. It's a really strange one and very sad. If she in fact is still out there in the desert, then IMO, this is a recovery search. Since she never took the key from under the rock near the RV (maybe she couldn't find it?) and we don't know how long he was separated from her (he makes it sound like it was a very brief time, but...who knows?) it's really hard to know what she would be doing just standing around in the heat near the trailer.
Also possible that key was never under the rock and that's a fabrication (but most people would then walk the brief distance back to their spouse and get the key...)
Temps in the area are around 100F today (and in their hometown, highs are predicted to go to 116-117F, so 100F would not have seemed too hot to them). Today's reports say the search is nearer to the I-40 (but doesn't give a distance).
What's strange to me in this case (and the other missing woman case last week) is that no one seems to want to give specific details about where, exactly, the person was last seen. How is the public going to help if we don't know which roads (exactly) they were on and where they were hiking? If anyone did see something (anything) you'd think searchers and family would want to know. I know they don't want lookie-lou's.
Kelbaker and Hidden Hills Road intersect just south of the area I thought they were in. A mile from there takes them on a walk to the Granite Mountains (really pretty - again, looks a lot like the background of her red cap photo, but I don't see a dry lake, just a dry stream bed).
