Found Deceased CA - Blaze Bernstein, 19, Lake Forest, 2 Jan 2018 #7 *Arrest*

Monday, February 28th:
*Pretrial Trial Setting Conference Hearing (@ 9am PT) – CA – Blaze Bernstein (19) (Jan. 2, 2018, Lake Forest; found Jan. 9, 2018; he was stabbed 19 times in his neck; 14 times on the left, 5 on the right & 1 stab wound in his left knee) – *Samuel Lincoln Woodward (20/now 23) arrested & charged (1/17/18) with 1 count of felony murder with a hate crime enhancement for killing someone because of their sexual orientation & sentencing enhancement-personal use of a knife. Plead not guilty (again on 11/9/18). $5M bail, bail revoked (11/9/18).
Could be sentenced from 26 years to life in prison without parole.
Trial set to begin on 3/4/22.

11/10/21 Update: Motion to continue trial-granted. Next pretrial readiness hearing on 1/21/22 & trial now set to begin on 3/4/22. 1/21/22 Update: Next pretrial trial readiness conference hearing on 2/25/22.
2/25/22 Update: Motion for continuance. Next pretrial trial setting conference hearing on 2/28/22 @ 9am.
 
Today’s hearing 2/28/2022 was cancelled, as was scheduled 3/4/2022 Jury Trial hearing. Next hearing 3/4/2022 - Pre-Trial.

2/25/22 Update: Motion for continuance. Next pretrial trial setting conference hearing on 2/28/22 @ 9am. 2/28/22 Update: Motion for trial continuance-granted. Today’s hearing was cancelled & also 3/4/2022 Jury Trial hearing. Next hearing 3/4/22 for pretrial conference hearing @ 9am.

This case has been very obscure in relation to any press. It’s been that way for a long time. His Mother is a psychiatrist or counselor and maybe it has something to do with that. His parents were very active in their church community, it’s odd that there hasn’t been any sightings or discussion about it.

<modsnip - rude>His mom has many times repeated she is an attorney, and they are Jewish and were therefore active in their synagogue not "church".

His mom is quite a woman. She is an attorney, writer, speaker, philanthropist, an advocate for the LGBTQ community, and a supporter of various charities. And yes, she an active member of her Jewish church, a synagogue.

Ummm,no disrespect intended but FYI, you don't refer to a synagogue as a "Jewish church"... A temple is another term for synagogue.

I posted a couple of months ago about his mom having an ad in a church bulletin that I went to (I went to high school with Blaze and Sam). She is a parishioner of that church, making her Catholic.

This is where my comment came from....

The synagogue is the Jewish equivalent of a church, more or less. It is the center of the Jewish religious community: a place of prayer, study and education, social and charitable work, as well as a social center.

A Jewish "church" is called a synagogue, shul or temple
