GUILTY CA - Brock, 42, & Davina Husted, 42, pregnant, murdered, Faria Beach, 3 June 2009

His defense attorneys have asked for more time, and requested the trial be delayed until May.

One of his lawyers suffered some kind of injury and they argue that it's not feasible to find another attorney at this late date. There are 8,800 pages of discovery and some 300 CD's and DVD's already prepared in the case.

Delay, delay, delay...that's the usual story anymore in California.

Yeah, I missed that. That's an old story, already linked in this thread.
Sorry.

Here's a more recent story (subscription required, so I could only get the first sentence)

The California Supreme Court has agreed to review whether a Ventura County Superior Court judge abused her discretion by denying an evidentiary hearing in a capital case.

Joshua packer pleads guilty to slaying.
I'm from ventura and this was a sick and scary thing to happen here before we knew who it was and he was in the loose.
Glad he's pleading guilty.

Obviously a deal in exchange to not get the death penalty. Not that california ever follows through w death pen.

The article linked is subscription only.

It took over FIVE years for Packer in the end, to plead not guilty. What a waste of the court's time and taxpayer monies!! More importantly, the effect all this has had on the victims. I hope the Husted children can heal and move on now.

A man has pleaded guilty to the first-degree murder of a Ventura County couple and their unborn child at their Beach House five years ago.

The Ventura County Star reports Friday that 25-year-old Joshua Packer will no longer face the death penalty after pleading to killing Brock Husted and his wife Davina Husted, who was pregnant. He'll get life in prison without parole when he's sentenced on Feb. 6.

Prosecutors had previously refused the agreement and insisted on the death penalty. It's not clear why they changed course.

They'll never forget what they saw sadly.

Finally, after almost six years, some measure of justice. What an unbelievable crime.

I received a vinelink notice from VCSO. Packer was moved to a prison today!!!

The murders were witnessed by their then-nine-year-old son, who had ran to get cash from his mother's purse to give to the armed intruder.

But when he returned, the man was stabbing his parents with a kitchen knife in the bedroom, according to search warrants in the triple murder case released in 2010.

The boy told investigators his parents made the robber promise not to hurt him or his 11-year-old sister, who was sleeping, and the man agreed.

The boy said his parents ran toward their bedroom and the intruder followed. He heard his mother scream, then hid behind the living room couch until the man left.

The boy woke his sister and together, they checked on their parents' bodies.

The children then locked the bedroom door and escaped through a window to a neighbor's home.

Packer was armed and wearing a motorcycle mask during the attack.
The doors to the house were not locked when he burst in.
