heartanium, the information in the NamUs link you
cited is this locale viewable in the January 2023
Google Maps aerial picture;
California

I don't think the information was actually precise
enough to say whether the remains were found on
that gully north slope or that gully south slope (closer
to the dirt track you see to the south). If the
remains were on the gully north slope, it could be
possible that the male was killed falling down the
steeper north slope. If the remains were on the
(gentler?) south slope, it could be that the body was
deposited by dragging from a nearby vehicle.
I spent a while looking at the historicaerial maps (1969
and 1980 aerial are closest years available to 1970 ), I
still can't land at an opinion if a 1970 and earlier 2WD
passenger car (with a body in the boot?) could make it
up the dirt track coming from the southwest or the
dirt track doglegging up from the south east (from the
I-50) in 1970. (Maybe if a bulldozer cleared a road up
near to the peak after the 1969 aerial picture... still
seems questionable. So as to the remains possibly
being Hollingsworth... can't decide). The 1980's aerial
pictures seem to show a slightly better track, but that
might just be because they're slightly better contrast
pictures.
For sure 4WD and maybe some SUV 2WD vehicles can
get up that dirt track nowadays, as evidenced by all
the tyre tracks (and also it can be seen in that Jan
2023 Google Maps aerial view that there are two
[U.S. termed] 'mid-sized' SUV's proceeding up the dirt
track about 450m south west of the locale I showed
in the above first paragraph.)
