Trinity Love Jones was scarred from head to toe. The slain 9-year-old’s body had so many injuries that a medical examiner performing an autopsy had to draw several diagrams to document them all.

Evidence showed that the girl had been abused for months — beaten, denied food and bearing an infection on her feet that made it hard for her to wear shoes.

In court, investigators read aloud text messages in which Hunt and Graham wrote of punishing the girl and complained that she kept urinating on herself. “Trinity is going to get it,” Graham texted Hunt after one such incident.


In another exchange from January 2019, Graham asks Hunt to show Trinity the text she has sent: “We were talking about giving you a burrito ... you messed up.”

Trinity Love Jones looked malnourished and bore injuries that included swollen feet. She lived with her mother and her mother’s boyfriend in a sport-utility vehicle and at various motels.

During a preliminay hearing on Friday, after details of the girl’s last days emerged, Pomona Superior Court Judge Mike Camacho ruled there was sufficient evidence for Graham and Hunt to be tried for the murder of the girl.

Trinity, Hunt and Graham were usually together, sheriff’s Detective Marc Boisvert testified. While Graham worked her shift at a Dollar Tree store, her daughter was with Hunt. He also worked at a Dollar Tree as well as for Postmates, delivering food.

Even after she saw the injuries, Detective Boisvert said, Graham didn’t take Trinity to a hospital: She didn’t want to get into trouble because she was on parole.

Hunt has a prior conviction in San Diego County for abusing his own son, investigators said. Hunt pleaded guilty in 2005 to one count of felony child abuse, receiving a 12-year sentence.

Graham became a sex offender after she was found guilty of trying to entice a girl for prostitution in 2009. She was released from prison in 2016.

Evidence Reveals That Girl Found in Duffel Bag Had Been Abused For Months

Wednesday, March 4, 2020
Los Angeles, CA — Trinity Love Jones, a 9-year old girl who was found dead and stuffed inside a duffel bag, had been reportedly badly bruised and abused for months leading to her death last year, according to new evidence. Her mother, Taquesta Graham, and her mother’s boyfriend, Emiel Hunt, are both facing murder and torture charges in connection to the crime.

Meanwhile, Graham and Hunt told investigators different stories on the circumstances that might have led to Trinity’s death.

Graham told investigators that Trinity suffered from congestion and had a seizure on February 28, 2019. She then went to work, but when they came back to the hotel where they are staying, she noticed that her daughter wasn’t breathing. She said she believed Hunt placed a pillow over the girl’s face.

Hunt, on the other hand, told investigators he noticed Trinity wasn’t breathing when he woke up around 3 AM on March 1. He and Graham “freaked out” because they had criminal records but eventually told each other that “we didn’t do anything wrong.”

The girl’s body was found on March 5, 2019 partially stuffed inside a duffel bag near a Los Angeles area hiking trail. She was eventually identified by her relatives.
