So, let me get this right:

Many murders have zero history of violent crimes,

Therefore,

CM's having no violent history of crimes support the belief that he killed the family of 4.

Many people get lung cancer even though they never smoked.

Therefore, I'm afraid I'll get lung cancer, because I never smoked.
Remember the tree stump.

CA - Joey, Summer, Gianni, Joseph Jr., McStay murders 4 Feb 2010 *Trial Transcripts - NO DISCUSSION*

CM: Oh, yeah, and that same night she was um, we were talking about corporal punishment, uh I don’t remember how the subject came up but, you saw my little guy, and I told her, I was telling actually I wasn’t even telling her I was telling Joseph, I said yeah I had to finally have a session with him, because he’s just, he’s really hard-headed, you know, he’s, he’s the best little boy in the world but sometimes he gets very stubborn, I had asked him to say he was sorry to his sister, and he wouldn’t do it, so I paddled his butt, set him down, talked to him, told him I loved him, anyway long story short it ended up being like a 2 hour session with him, having to spank his butt every 5 minutes or so, [laughter] and set him back down and say, you have to do this, it’s not like, I’m not, and we’re going to sit here until you do, finally, she, and I told Joseph about this session and the fact that since then he does what I ask, you know, he, you, sometimes you have to be firm, she went off on me and told me that I broke his spirit and that, you know, I don’t even, she just went off! What kind of father are you? and corporal punishment is not something you should ever do, and I’m like well I just smacked his butt with my open hand I knew it didn’t hurt, you know it’s like oh you can’t do, you can’t be doing that, and you know, she, I mean she went off for like 5 minutes, you know just like, so yeah, she’s very verbal, extremely verbal, but I don’t think she’s physical.

we were talking about corporal punishment
If in the past corporal punishment were considered child abuse, then 90% of the so called greatest generation would have been sitting in the pokey.

No sir not Water Feature Supply. It was a completely different name and DK had established a website in 2009. Patrick won't tell me the name but said if people think they know so much then let them find it. It's out there on the web.

Or they might have been better educated about it and might not have done it.

Thanks for the quote. Well, guess what, I didn't even expect this, but: I have a better opinion of Chase than before I read this. It reinforced my opinion that Chase sounds like a loving father (recall the discussion on that a while back?).

Honestly, when I mentioned I've known men who beat their children but were some of the kindest men, those men didn't even sound so loving to their children as Chase.

People see what they want to see. If you want to believe Chase is a violent man, you pick the "I paddled his butt", but to me, that's nothing, not even close to the violence that could progress into murder. Absolutely Zero implication here. The only thing this tells me is Chase seems to be a loving father.

I see someone who is known to lie attempting to minimize his violent controlling behaviour and score favour with his audience. I really can't imagine someone who is smacking a child over and over saying 'I love you' in between every smack.

He says "I knew it didn't hurt" - yeah sure Mr Merritt, you wasted 2 hours doing something that since then your child no longer does because it didn't hurt.

Mica in response to your question. I probably shouldn't do this but I think you have right to know. Patrick sent me this a while ago. It is some of the information he had back in the spring of 2011 and before dating back to 2009. I can also tell you that two other people close friends of JM were aware of this company and the payoff as I call it.

As you can see DK was already setting his new company in motion and using JM name address and phone number in 2011. It hadn't done much at all so he changed it to JM information and started trying to use JM to live off of. JM didn't want to be a part of "inexam" but he felt that way he could keep DK out of eip if DK claimed JM was his partner. Thats the partner bs!

limk: ok by March he is mentioning Joey's phone number instead...

Joseph McStay's father, Patrick McStay, told CBS News 8 that he has a hard time believing Merritt had anything to do with the murders.
McStay murder mystery: Who is Chase Merritt?
"What does Chase have to gain with Joey gone? Chase isn't going to get the company," said Patrick McStay. "If you recall, Chase took a lie detector test and he passed."

Merritt claimed in his interview with Daily Mail that he agreed to a polygraph examination at the request of San Diego County Sheriff's Department detectives. He said he had passed the test in the early stages of the 2010 investigation, despite "a couple of inconsistencies."

"Was I a suspect? Well, I don't know if I'm the only one they asked to do a lie detector test, but I am the only one who actually agreed. They were certainly on my case,"

CMs words make no sense to me.

He admits he doesn't know who all they asked to take one, and then immediately says, 'but I'm the only one who actually agreed.' WTH? Does he even pay attention to what he says?

Of course he doesn't have a clue who was asked to take one nor does he know if others agreed to take one either, and did.

The police isnt going to share that information with anyone much less CM.

A couple of inconsistencies??? Why didnt he run his mouth about what those couple of inconsistencies were?

Imo

Anyone who doesn't usually listen to the audio might want to make an exception for the first part of Part 3 (posted above) - the judge is addressing a whole list of questions from jurors about things including can they ask why there are so many days off and when the case is expected to conclude etc.

ETA - still on track for finishing testimony by end April (paraphrased).
Yes. I listened. I think the jurors are getting restless. Can we discuss the admonishments? Too many days off ? Judge says you can't talk about anything basically.

The PT has not proved without a reasonable doubt that this two-timed felon is gulity.

There are many multi-timed felons who never killed.

And by the way, smacking his son (if true--I don't know) is of totally different nature than murdering a family. I know more than a few men who beat up their young sons to discipline them, who are some of the kindest people I've known, and their sons were thankful after growing up. In fact one of my elementary school classmate routinely came to class with a red palm print on his face from his father. Now as a grown man he loves and cares for his father.

Here are some answer to question I asked Patrick or we have discussed in the past.

#739 Yes his opinion of Merritt and his involvement changed but it was long before his arrest. He and people working with him had much more information that some here want to admit or accept.

Somehow my original post was included with bobcat's
As I have mentioned frequently, I have no personal connection to this case. I am analytical and intentionally remain neutral until the case gets to the jurors. The reality is that anyone can claim to be "an insider" and have personal knowledge of facts and feelings not in evidence". But, that becomes "hearsay" unless testified to during the trial. If I were to accept your statements as true, then I would also be obligated to accept similar statements from personal friends of CM. I only consider the testimony and evidence from those who speak after being sworn in. We have testimony from family in behalf of both the defendant and the victims. If PM has relevant testimony it should be presented, in person, and under oath.
The jury doesn't care about our opinions and doesn't know anything about the personal lives of the family or the defendant. They will be basing their verdict on the facts as presented.
If everyone was tried by internet fed opinion our justice system would fail to exist.

He's also known as a master manipulator.

And he was so loving of a parent that he gambled away the family finances and kept them destitute and on the verge of eviction on more than one occasion.
