http://www.kcra.com/article/body-surfaced-from-ground-at-north-highlands-home-official-says/14513597NORTH HIGHLANDS, Calif. (KCRA) Deputies are investigating after a buried body was found at a North Highlands home, the Sacramento County Sheriffs Department said Thursday.
The body was found Tuesday afternoon in the backyard of a home in the 6200 block of Dundee Drive. The body had surfaced from beneath the ground and was found by workers renovating the home, Sgt. Shaun Hampton said in a news release.
The homeowner who did not want to be identified said he had to evict the previous tenants because they hadnt paid their rent for the past year. After going into the home, he found it in deplorable conditions.
While cleaning the home and hauling away seven trailer loads of trash, workers spotted what appeared to be part of a leg sticking out of the ground.
Patrol deputies and homicide investigators examined the bones, which apparently had been buried but had become exposed, and determined that they were human, according to a Sheriffs Department news release. Investigators spent nearly two days at the site and were able to unearth an entire skeleton. They also checked the rest of the property and determined there were no other remains, the news release said.
The remains are not believed to be ancient, and the matter is being investigated as a suspicious death, according to the Sheriffs Department.
