So a fight escalates...you retreat, lock the door which is broken down, so you defend yourself ...thats murder in CA?
A former "Power Rangers" actor has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his roommate to death with a sword at their Southern California home.
Thirty-six-year-old Ricardo Medina was arrested Thursday on a charge of murder. He's jailed on $1 million bail.
Medina allegedly stabbed Joshua Sutter several times in the abdomen on Jan. 31 of last year at their house in Green Valley, a mountain town north of Los Angeles.
City News Service says the two were arguing over Medina's girlfriend.
I'm not sure what, if anything, has changed here but to charge him nearly a year later is a bit unusual.
Of course, we don't know all the facts here but based on the events it sets a bit a "double jeopardy" element to those who might be defending themselves in dangerous situations.
Former Power Rangers Star Ricardo Medina Jr. Pleads Guilty To Manslaughter
Very strange case, IMO.
There's certainly no way to know what happened based on the news but it is odd to see it shift from legitimate self defense to one year later a murder charge.
Reminds me a bit of the Zimmerman case because by all accounts police initially admitted it was a self defense case and they didn't have any reason to think otherwise but, if I recall he was charged very quickly with murder after that...maybe 3 or months?
However, with this case the defense likely didn't have the same caliber lawyer and his best option was a guilty plea. Not to say, he is truly guilty or not but I can't imagine a situation like this would be easy to avoid jail. Not a position I'd ever want to be in.
