What about 12:30-1? If there was fog, then I would guess she got lost and had a dead phone.

If she were intoxicated or under the influence she may not have realized it, or maybe she could have taken her eyes of the road for a moment. Your perception of things is so off when you are under the influence. Have you ever driven mindlessly down a dark road sober, sometimes you end up on auto pilot without even realizing it? Not to mention, if she was speeding she may have realized it, but too late?
Maybe she thought she was going on a short cut?Good point. Also, if She left about the same time as several others, she surely would have noticed that they all exited in the same direction, and it seems unlikely that she would have turned in the other direction, and ended up in the water, JMO
Can't tell some reports have fog in Truckee at 12:00 (less hourly detail) this automatic station stated 2:00AM. Quite possible that area around water at lake had fog first. What about 12:30-1? If there was fog, then I would guess she got lost and had a dead phone.
I have a 2014 so it may not be exactly the same. Mine has auto running lights with no option to turn off, but not auto headlights. I have to turn them on/off manually. For what it’s worth, the headlights are so dim I’ve had issues driving city streets, much less our back country roads. Even with my brights on. This seems to be common with CRV during those few years. Also, my phone won’t charge unless the car is running. MOO(I'm looking to see if the model of CRV Kiely owns has automatic headlights. I think it may.)
Some boat ramps in the UK have a gate across them. You’d think they could at least paint BOAT RAMP on it in giant letters with reflective paint or something.
some in the US have them as well. Some boat ramps in the UK have a gate across them.
Pain in the rear for any boat owners, but safe for everyone else.
You took the words right out of my mouth !!!You probably already saw this, but on a previous thread, a local had posted photos of the Prosser Lake Reservoir Boat Launch Ramp and it was indeed paved and looked just like a regular road but led directly into the water. No significant incline or anything, and I believe it would be very easy to mistake it for a road especially in the pitch black of night. I have not been able to get that picture of the boat ramp out of my head ever since seeing it because it looked like such a normal strip of pavement, except that it just went straight into the water. :/
i think its around a bend. there are maps back thread. Is the boat ramp located in a place where she could have been speeding? Especially if there was a large party and let's estimate around 100 cars (assuming there were 300+ attendees) parked and/or also leaving?
She just speeds right off the ramp and into the lake and no one notices?
The ramp is right there in and around where the group was partying and parked, isn't it?
I'm not saying it is impossible she went in off the boat ramp. Only that I find it less likely than other scenarios.
Edited:for some reason, I was not able to view part of thread when posing these questions. I can see some have been answered--i.e. the position of the launch.
There are a ton of short cuts and other paths. When I look at google maps, there are endless wrong turns to take. I know from experience, if you don't know your route, and are just looking for signs it is easy to take the wrong road. Being impaired and possibly foggy weather to the mix, and I can see her going anywhere. I even see there is a road marked old 89, its east to assume that it is the new 89 as well.Maybe she thought she was going on a short cut?
Fog or mist! This is looking more and more like an accident.
So in favor of the boat ramp:
Her possibly being very impaired.
General consensus it looks like a regular road.
Against, IMO:
Still seems others would have noticed, even if she did not based on location/number of people/cars she would have drive past, through, etc unless I have grossly misunderstood layout.
The water is so shallow, and remains shallow for quite a distance. (Prior posts, including linked videos.)
If the water is only 4 feet deep, and remains that depth for some distance, and Kiely had a sun roof (SS mentions this in interview), could she have escaped that way? Unless she was completely passed out, of course....
And yes, early morning boats on that Sunday makes perfect sense. Wouldn't her CRV have still been still stuck there in the shallows?
So perplexing....
I imagine fog varies wildly depending on elevation, though. We live in a mountainous region in New England, not nearly as high elevation as Truckee, and the fog can vary by a few hundred feet ... driving, driving, clear, then bam, totally obscure view, and then clear again. Often concentrated over bodies of water, though. I thought it was stated much earlier there was no fog that night at the campground, though, or reports would have been all over this as a potential weather-related incident.
I think they are just considering every possible angle, for example they have called out the team Adventures with Purpose they usually specialise in cold cases of missing people with their vehicles in water, rarely ever a fresh case. So they are considering also that she may be in her vehicle under water.Because there's such a call for witnesses, a call for info on her necklaces, the focus on what she was wearing, and the amount of press conferences makes me 98% believe it's foul play. They know more than they're sharing.
RsbmIn my previous posts I've mostly stuck to detailed information about the local terrian, and haven't given much opinion. I'd like to share some thoughts that I haven't seen in these threads... please let me know what you think.
- There's a lot of discussion about the boat ramps and accidently (or intentionally) driving into the water. Has anyone here ever searched for a vehicle in water? I have not, but I would assume the car floats for a short amount of time, until it fills with water, then it sinks. Wouldn't that mean the car would be submerged in the water directly at the end of the boat ramp? Seems very unlikely the car would float into the middle of the lake. I don't know though?
It's cold almost everynight in Truckee, even in the summer. We're in the mountains, its common for it to be 80s during the day and 40s everynight.Rsbm
If the windows are closed, vehicles can float out quite a ways before sinking. Adventures with Purpose has found cars pretty far from where they entered the water. Of course it depends on the speed, current, depth of water, and height from which vehicle entered the water.
Presuming she went off the ramp, the water is pretty deep despite how it looked on Google maps. She would have driven directly into water as opposed to nose-dise and having the car flip. imo. No idea if she would have had windows down. Seems like it was a bit chilly that night, but could have put windows down to "sober up"
All of this is just speculation, of course.
