CA CA - Kimberly Lopez, 4, Oxnard, 15 March 2015 *GUILTY*

Agree. LE says they think she's alive though. Do you think she was sold? I hope to someone who wanted a child for un-nefarious purposes...

I want to vomit. The Grandmother says Mom told her she was too high to remember what happened to Kimberly. The family member in Mexico she was supposedly given too, says that is not true.

Why doesn't the Grandmother say when SHE last saw the child? She, along with the Father was responsible for supervising visitations. I guess maybe the parents lied to her too. But I'm furious no one loved this child enough to check on her welfare. This situation doesn't look good.

What is known is this: Kimberly spent the first eight months or so of her life in foster care, after her mother tested positive for methamphetamine use.

She was still a baby when Chavez and Lopez got her back, Chavez told a reporter from The Star in an interview at the jail this week
But before Kimberly turned 2, she was removed from their care again.

By March 26, 2015, Lopez had fulfilled the requirements to regain sole custody of their daughter, court records show. Kimberly was just a few months shy of her third birthday...

Chavez, who is seven months pregnant,
said she hasn’t spoken to Kimberly or seen her since June 2015.

Sadly, I do not think there is a chance whatsoever of ever finding this girl. While I do not think she is dead - I do think they traded her for drugs possibly.

If the mom was hiding her from her real dad - I think she would have told them where she was. LE could have verified her whereabouts without telling the dad anything.

It makes me so mad that no one was concerned for so long. And to think the mom is 7 months pregnant again? Seriously?

Police , FBI search for Oxnard Girl Last Seen 2 Years Ago"

From the Ventura County Star on 3/10/17

"Police say a trail wasn’t easy to find. Kimberly had no fingerprints on record, had no online presence and was not yet in school. Authorities were happy to find even one photo from 2015. The picture recovered by detectives shows Kimberly at a birthday party in February of that year. She was in the background, and police had to enlarge the image to use on a missing-person flier."

Parents Charged With Her Murder - there was enough evidence to file murder charges against 26-year-old Mayra Chavez and 33-year-old Omar Lopez.

The couple was jailed after a judge held them in civil contempt for allegedly failing to tell authorities where their daughter Kimberly was or what had happened to her.

In addition to second-degree murder, Chavez also faces charges of torture and assault.

The parents of a missing Southern California girl who are in jail on contempt charges have been charged with killing their daughter.

Ventura County prosecutors said Wednesday an investigation that began in September 2016 concluded there was enough evidence to file murder charges against 26-year-old Mayra Chavez and 33-year-old Omar Lopez. It wasn't immediately known whether the two have attorneys.

An attorney with the Ventura County Public Defender’s Office, which was appointed to represent Mayra Chavez in her legal proceedings, requested that the woman’s arraignment be continued to 9 a.m. March 1 in Courtroom 13.

Omar Lopez, the girl’s father, was also charged this week with second-degree murder as well as a child endangerment offense. He appeared in court on Thursday for an arraignment, which was also continued.

Parents pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges accusing them of killing their 3-year-old daughter. The pleas also included a felony child endangerment charge against Lopez and the felony torture and assault on a child causing death offenses facing Chavez.

The parents said they drove Kimberly’s body to Tijuana, Mexico, but her remains have not been found.

The pair also face perjury charges filed against them in August stemming from the case. At some point during the investigation, they had also told detectives they had taken Kimberly to Mexico to live with a man Chavez said was like a stepfather to her when she was younger. Authorities tracked down the man, who said he knew nothing of the girl.

In addition to the pleas, two motions in the murder case went before the court Thursday. One motion was filed by Senior Deputy District Attorney John Barrick and asked the court to do an in-camera review of reports and interviews from the missing person investigation so it could be turned over to the defense as discovery.

The other motion dealt with setting a date for a preliminary examination.

“Ms. Chavez is in no way, shape or form waiving any of her statutory rights,” her lawyer said. He further requested that should the continuance be granted, Chavez should be released from jail.

A preliminary examination date is set for April 9, the judge still granted the request through April 23 should that not transpire.

Kimberly’s parents will be back in court before then. They are scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on the perjury case at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday in Courtroom 13.

A judge at a preliminary hearing Thursday ordered the mother to stand trial in connection with the child’s alleged murder.

Chavez is due back in court at 9 a.m. on May 3.

Lopez is scheduled to be sentenced in September. He faces a maximum sentence of 14 years in prison should he fully cooperate with the terms of his agreement.

Not sure why people are thinking OL was the stepdad? Per Hispanic naming traditions, Kimberly has the surnames of both parents, and all articles are calling him her father...

Chavez’s mother, Maria Lopez, has been charged with one count of conspiracy to destroy and conceal evidence regarding the death of her 3-year-old granddaughter.

“We believe the evidence shows that she helped Mayra Chavez and Omar Lopez conceal Kimberly’s death from authorities.”

Maria Lopez told her daughter and Omar Lopez to go to Tijuana, Mexico, after learning that Kimberly had died. She lent the couple her PT Cruiser for the trip and gave them $300.
