Identified! CA - Laurel Canyon, WhtFem 358UFCA, 20-23, Nov'69 - Reet Jurvetson

Very crazy times all sorts of nastiness happening, what i cannot understand is why Reet was murdered and why so violently?
Do you think anyone associated with the Mansons had something to do with Reet's murder, was her bf also killed, or has he been on the run all this time?
imo, speculation.

There has often been said that Reet was at the scene of Zero's "russian roulette suicide" Murder Squad interview claimed that Catherine Gilles was responsbile for Zero death. She was supposedly trying to turn him on via sexual favor than convinced him to play Russian roulette. After he died Bruce Davis came into the room, wiped the fingerprints from gun and clamined to police it was suicide / accident via russian rouleete. What a joke. I think the bullets in gun were even full.

When discussing Reet, I think she witnessed Zero's death. Aesop Aquarian was there and knows this but is heistant to speak. I think Reet refused to join the family or come along with invitation to Ranch. She witnessed Zero death and was killed for it

The Charles Manson Family: More Murders? - The Murder Squad
"We are looking for any information about the four unsolved murders that happened in the same time frame as the Manson Murders. If you have any information, please contact us.

In regard to the Reet Jurvetson case we are specifically looking for someone who may have lived in the same building at the time. Before Reet was killed in November 1969, she lived in an apartment building at 5318 Melrose Ave next to the Paramount Lot. Reet lived on the third floor. The apartment building no longer exist. Please contact us with any information."

Investigators were once interested in an individual named M. Lindhorst. This individual had lived across the hall from the apartment where Reet Jurvetson had resided at the time of her murder, and investigators hope he or she will be able to recall the surname of either or both of the two individuals with whom Reet had lived prior to her murder.

I completely forgot about this! https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/reet-jurvetson-investigation-glasses-1.3850542
They found prescription glasses near Reet's body. Maybe the killer lost them in a panic?
Just offering up some other options other than my usual belief that is was Manson related murder.
The 150 plus stab wounds to Reet is strikingly similar to Manson murders overkill.

Cult May be Linked to Slayings of 2 Girls Manson\ The Los Angeles Times Los Angeles, California 18 Dec 1969, Thu • Page 3

Substantial leads have been discovered which may link the murders of two San Jose girls to the accused slayers of the Tate and La Bianca victims in Los Angeles, police said Wednesday. San Jose detectives developed a possible connection between the cases after conferring with Los Angeles officers, it was reported. Six members of a hippie clan led by Charles Manson have been charged with murdering five persons, including actress Sharon Tate, and Leno and Rosemary La Bianca Aug. 8-9. - One of the members of the nomadic band, Susan Denise Atkins, 21, is from San Jose. The Manson "family" has visited Miss Atkins' father there.

Two girls on a picnic Kathy Snoozy, 15, and Deborah Furlong, 14 were stabbed to death in San Jose Aug. 2. Their deaths were among 30 on a list of 1968-1969 unsolved murders sent to the Los Angeles
Police by the attorney general's Criminal Identification and Investigation Bureau as having possible tie-ins with the Tate La Bianca defendants. As in the Tate and La Bianca murders, the girls were repeatedly stabbed and the crime was seemingly motiveless

Do you have a source for this?

Sept, 10, 2016 Los Angeles Times by Esmeralda Bermudez

"Manson prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi said in his 1974 book “Helter Skelter” that he believed Jane Doe No. 59 — as Jurvetson was then known — was killed because she had witnessed another suspected Manson family slaying, the death of John Phillip Haught.

Investigators initially believed Haught died playing Russian roulette in Venice in November 1969. But Simon Wells, author of the Manson biography “Coming Down Fast,” found out that Manson family members were present when Haught died."

Also Manson: The Lost Tapes (TV Movie documentary) 2018 (interview with Aesop Aquarian formerly know as Mark Ross. Manson once asked him to kill a judge, but he refused. There is a photo of Mark and Catherine Share standing together in newspapers outside court. Also, this which I found and watched last year..........Ha!
Aesop Aquarian Mark Ross stars in Starsky Hutch episode called Bloodbath about a deadly cult 1978

New clues emerge in a cold-case killing possibly linked to Manson family murders

There was also talk that she was saving up money in Canada to move to California to visit someone she dated? or was her boyfriend. I don't recall anyone coming up with a name though. I have to search my stuff and confirm.

Has anyone read the latest Manson related book by Tom O'Neill? Chaos, Charles Manson, the CIA, and the Secret History of the Sixties. Fantastic read. Very well researched. Hilarious interactions with Vincent Bugliosi. Definitely makes you wonder about Vincent's ties with the mafia. The only thing I was disappointed about is that the book doesn't speak about Reet or John Haught AKA Zero. :(

L.A. Cops Search for Two in 1969 Unsolved Murder of Reet Jurvetson, Say No Charles Manson Connection

Los Angeles Police Department
"In the fall of 1969, 19-year-old Montreal native Reet Jurvetson flew to L.A. to visit a man named Jean she had met before in a coffee shop in Canada.

“She was enamored,” retired LAPD cold case detective Cliff Shepard tells PEOPLE. “She thought he looked like Jim Morrison of the Doors.”

"In July, LAPD detectives Lou Rivera and Veronica Conrado flew to Montreal to interview a witness who met Jean and Jurvetson at the Café Image all those years ago. The man was able to provide detectives with a sketch of Jean. Detectives also learned that Jean was known to hang around with another male – also named Jean – who was shorter than his friend and wore a bowl haircut in the style of the Beatles.

“They might have been sharing an apartment in Los Angeles,” says Shepard. “They or he might have been the last ones to see her.”

"Recently, a friend of Jervetson’s told CBC News’ investigative program, The Fifth Estate that she came across Jean’s friend in Montreal in the spring of 1970.

“And I went right up to him and started talking to him, and I was asking him about Reet,” the friend, Gilda Green, said. “And he said, ‘Oh yeah, she was with us for a couple of weeks and then she left on her own and everything’s fine, she was happy.'”

Green told The Fifth Estate that Jean’s friend had no idea what happened to Jurvetson after her Los Angeles trip.

Green said Jean’s friend was around five-foot-six-inches, with black hair, blue eyes and a French accent.

Jean, the man Jurvetson met in the coffee shop and flew to Los Angeles to visit, was described as more than five-feet-nine inches in height, with brown eyes and long feathered hair."

On August 20, Jurvetson’s sister Anne gave detectives a possible clue. The postcard from Jurvetson to her parents, dated October 31, 1969, had a return address. But detectives soon discovered that the apartment complex, once called the Paramount Hotel, on Melrose Avenue was demolished in 1989.

"Jane Doe 59’s murder – just three months after actress Sharon Tate and several others had been viciously stabbed to death by the Manson Family a few miles away – fueled speculation that she could be connected to Charles Manson and his followers.

At the time, Ruby Pearl, a caretaker at Spahn Ranch, the notorious Manson Family hangout, told police that Jurvetson resembled a hippie named Sherry from Simi Valley who hung out at the ranch.

Later, in his 1974 book Helter Skelter Vincent Bugliosi suggested that Jane Doe #59 may have been present at the death of suspected Manson family victim John “Zero” Haught and “killed so she wouldn’t talk.” (Haught, whose death was reportedly declared a suicide, died of a gunshot wound to the head on November 5, 1969. Manson family members were reportedly present when the shooting occurred.)

However, the CBC reports that the LAPD said there is no evidence supporting a possible link to the Manson Family.

Back then, police also investigated if Jane Doe 59’s murder was linked to the November 23, 1969 killings of James Sharp, 15, and 19-year-old Doreen Gaul. The young Scientologists were found brutally stabbed and beaten in a downtown Los Angeles alley, one week after Jurvetson was discovered.

The wounds on Gaul, Sharpe and Jurvetson, looked like the work of a “fanatic,” LAPD Det. Lt. Earl A. Deemer told the Los Angeles Times at the time.

Detectives also looked into whether Jurvetson’s murder was linked to the slaying of 17-year-old Marina Habe, who was abducted outside her West Hollywood home January 1, 1969.

Habe’s body was found at the bottom of a ravine off Mulholland Drive, less than a half mile from where Jurvetson was discovered. Habe, like Jurvetson, reportedly had multiple stab wounds to the neck.

Today, detectives believe their best lead is Jean.

“He is the best lead we have,” LAPD lead investigator Lou Rivera told PEOPLE
in an earlier interview. “No one deserves what happened to her. Someone might be out there who is responsible and it is our job to find out who it is and bring them to justice if we can."

The body of a young woman, clad in a red coat and skirt, was found by a North Hollywood police sergeant on routine patrol on Mulholland Drive 100 yards west of Beverly Drive. Sgt. Eugene Thompson said he spotted the red coat in a ravine about 50 feet from the roadway. The woman was described as about 23 to 30 years of age, with long brown hair, brown eyes, about 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing 123 pounds. No identity papers were found with the body, and an autopsy was ordered to determine the cause of death.

"Woman Found Slain in Canyon The body of a woman, about 25, was found on the south side 'of Mulholland Drive between Laurel and Coldwater canyons. Police said . the woman's throat had been cut and she had been stabbed several " times in the upper torso. She had been dead about 24 hours when found by a young boy in the late afternoon. The dark headed victim, about 5-foot-8, 120 pounds, . was wearing a blue jacket, blue denims and riding boots. Police said she had not been sexually molested."

Sheesh, Mulholland Drive is just one giant graveyard

Curious in finding more information about these two men. It seems endless when it comes to articles from the late 60s involving corpses being found on Mulholland Drive.

"2 Charged in Slaying VAN NUYS Two, men were charged Thursday with the murder of Gregory Geiger, 19, whose body was found on a fire trail off Mulholland Drive in Sherman Oaks Oct. 10. Accused are Charles E. Johnson, 29, a hairdresser, of 1844 N. Bronson Ave., Hollywood, and Joseph Wynn, 29, a transient."

Another one. Any cases involving overkill I would be more inclined to think were Manson Family related. The others just make me wonder what other serial killers were active at this time period. Or if each case is just a different person who is disturbed and is a good opportunist.

Flat Tire May Have Led to Girl's Murder
A flat tire may have led to the rape and murder of an attractive San Fernando Valley State College student, police said Tuesday. T h e young woman, whose body was found Monday in a ravine off Mulholland Drive, near Beverly Drive, was identified Tuesday as Rose Tashman, 19, a native of Israel who moved to Los Angeles with her parents seven years ago. Her identity was established througha missing persons report filed Monday by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Tashman of 448 N, Formosa Ave. Left to Study The Tashmans said their daughter left their home in her own car Sunday night to study for a college examination with a friend in Van Nuys. The car was found Tuesday, its left front tire deflated, on the shoulder of the Highland Ave. off-ramp of the inbound Hol-lvwood Freewav. Ssrt N. L. Allen of North Holhywood detective division said the victim evidently had accepted a ride to obtain aid from someone who drove her to the spot, where her body was found. There she had been raped, strangled, and her body dumped in the ravine.

Reet was attracted to this guy's resemblance to Jim Morrison, with his "brown eyes and long feathered hair." (Although, pictures of Morrison seem to indicate that he had light eyes.) If the person named Jean is still alive, he probably looks much older now, but likely has a Quebecois accent and similar appearance to the sketch below, but once again, older.

I think this feathered hairstyle was quite popular in those days.

Jean was a francophone and was clean, well-spoken and was possibly a medical school student, according to Robert.
(Robert recalls Jean as being named Pierre, but Reet's friends recall Reet referring to him as Jean.)

Jean might also have worked at Cafe Prag on Bishop Street.

Robert met Jean at a hippie hangout called The Image on Park Ave., just south of Prince Arthur in 1968.

Reet told her friends that Jean looked like Jim Morrison, singer of The Doors, but Robert feels that Jean's features were less-round and his nose more aquiline.

Here's a video clip of a young Quebecois woman speaking English. That's how their accent sounds.

In Paul Dawson's 2019 Manson Family Manual, he offers more of the same information we already seem to know about the case. I am not a huge fan of Dawson's work. If you get a copy of his book, you will see why. Poor quality photos, sloppy layout, misspellings.
Part 3
Chapter 12

"A witness in Montreal had seen Reet Juvetson at a cafe with a friend named John or Jean. Also, there was a shorter male associate with a Beatles-type haircut possibly named Jean. Shows same photos of suspects as above post with feathered hair. Shows imagine of a postcard she sent her family shortly before her death.

These victims are also mentioned as possible Manson victims also Laurence Merrick, Mark Walts, Marina Habe, Nacy Warren and Clida Delaney, Darwin Scott, James Sharp & Doreen Gaul, and Joel Pugh.
