This is one of the most horrific cases I've ever heard of...yet very few people have heard about it. These children deserve better. Their surviving siblings deserve better.
I don't mean to imply that this case should be sensationalised, but more that there should be recognition that two children lost their lives under massively horrible conditions.
How can we prevent the next case?

I guess that's the million dollar question. It's absolutely horrific!

The court site still shows Feb. 2nd - but than I am 10 hours ahead of Pacific Time - so the court site has not been updated yet - and I'm not finding anything about the arraignment hearing - at least over here (Europe).

No new details aside from info about why prosecution did not seek to add additional “special circumstances” charges onto what Taylor and Brothwell are already facing (quote below comes from second article linked above):


“The murder charges against Taylor do not include special circumstance allegations that could have made him eligible for the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole.

It was not immediately clear whether Brothwell could face the same potential life prison sentence if she is convicted as charged.

Gascón said he has heard the "hue and cry" about how the filing decision may "somehow provide less safety for our community in the case."

"What would be the utility to take somebody that is probably going to spend the rest of his life in prison to continue to add years and waste taxpayers' money on additional litigation?" the county's top prosecutor asked soon after being sworn in to office.

I just read through the thread after seeing it in new posts this morning. I can't believe this is the first I've heard of it. So shocking. I hope the surviving children will be able to recover from this trauma and live happy lives.

I'm afraid it's even worse than we think. These monsters decapitated their own children and made the other two see them in that state. So horrific.

I think it's because it's involving children who have experienced some incredibly horrific things, and unfortunately, that they are/were black may also be a factor.

Gabriel Fernandez eventually got A LOT of media attention. I think the locals might not be super aware of what happened to Jr. and Maliaka.

This trial can't come soon enough. I hope these two are punished the full extent of the law. (In CA that would be life in prison). Even that's too good for them IMO.
