DELANO, Calif. - Ten inmates are receiving medical care at hospitals after a prison riot broke out in Delano, officials said.
On March 14, shortly before 10:00 a.m., officials at the Kern Valley State Prison said a riot brok out in the B Facility yard.
Officials said multiple inmates and multiple groups of inmates were involved. Correctional officers at the prison reportedly used tear gas and pepper spray on the fighting inmates.
It took five to ten minutes before officials gained control of the situation.
Officials said ten inmates were taken to hospitals with stab wounds.
Three inmates are in critical condition and the remaining inmates are in serious condition.
No prison staff member was injured during the riot, according to officials.
Investigators with KVSPs Investigative Services Unit are investigating the incident.
