Unsure if this should have been put in the crimes in the news section at this point, deaths are presently being treated as suspicious but homicide not called in thus far, imo.rbbm.
Rare for two people to die together in a completely non-criminal circumstance, the only thing I can think of is carbon monoxide poisoning and I doubt they were using a faulty heater in their home.
They were both in the basement, I read. I suppose it could be carbon monoxide poisoning but I'm thinking that a financial reason will be at the center of this. JMO
The plot thickens......
There are other possibilities that would include a criminal element but not be homicide, including bad recreational drugs, or a murder-suicide.
The couple leave four children.
First thing I thought of was carbon monoxide poisoning. Second thing is murder, which is more likely.
I noticed the Shermans had put the home up for sale. Is it possible that they had turned off the Utility to the house or if the Power Co. had done so during the sale process and the Shermans tried to turn the gas back on and some malfunction occurred.
Were the Shermans actually living at the residence at the time or just visiting the property during the sale process. I live in the SF Bay Area and many homes of that value here would be staged by the real estate agent and the occupant would move out before actual sale would take place.
ummm, a murder-suicide is homicide
Does anyone else find it a bit coincidental that a day after Toronto Life features their home in an article in the Real Estate section, they are found dead? The article has since been pulled but the link was: https://torontolife.com/city/society/pharma-titan-barry-sherman-selling-modern-north-york-mansion/
A snapshot of the article can be found here: https://torontolife.com/searchgc/?q=Sherman
Real estate listing here with pictures. A beautiful home

Homicide not being called in must mean freak accident (carbon monoxide etc) or murder suicide.
With two such prominent citizens, it seems like Homicide would be running the case from the outset if there was any mystery whatsoever.
Other rumours in the article: Mr. Sherman, unusually, didn't go to work Thursday. They were building a new house closer to downtown. Listing just before Christmas seems odd (though in TO, don't know that it matters).
I agree that it seems unlikely they'd be living in the home while it was being shown.
Would like to point out that the real estate article noted Forced Air heating system and photos seem to possibly show a swimming pool in the basement. Possible floaters? Article below is majorly critical of Forced Air heating and talks about the higher risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Using my decoding ring to analyse these latest police statements, they are sending out warning signals, for sure.
This will be a big international story. They have to figure out how much to reveal while trying to give the family privacy.
