Pharma giant and philanthropists Barry and Honey Sherman found dead
Pharmaceutical giant Barry Sherman and his wife Honey Sherman were found dead in a home in Toronto’s York Mills neighbourhood on Friday afternoon, sources confirm.

Emergency crews responded to a 9-1-1 medical call at a house located at 50 Old Colony Road, which is in the area of Bayview Avenue and Highway 401.
Firefighters, officers and paramedics arrived on scene just before 12 p.m. and located two bodies inside.
Barry Sherman was the chairman of generic drug company Apotex Inc. He and his wife were well known Toronto philanthropists.

Canadian Business magazine recently listed Barry Sherman as the 15th richest person in Canada, with a net worth of $4.77 billion.

Speaking to reporters in front of the home, Const. David Hopkinson said the victims’ deaths are being treated as suspicious at this time.

“The circumstances of their deaths appear suspicious and we are treating it that way,” he said. “Our investigators are inside (the home) investigating and taking apart the scene.”

Does anyone know how to contact Doug Grady?
Had to refresh memory..

Feb 2021 rbbm.
''Jonathon Sherman has hired retired Toronto police inspector Doug Grady to uncover who was responsible for killing his parents, billionaire philanthropists Honey and Barry Sherman, CBC News has learned.

Grady is a former unit commander with the Toronto Police Service who once led its homicide squad. He's also worked in the intelligence and organized crime units. He retired in February 2011.

He has not previously been linked to the Sherman family's efforts to investigate the December 2017 homicides in the couple's home.

The other three of the Shermans' children are not on board with the effort.

On Wednesday, Alex Krawczyk, Lauren Sherman and Kaelen Sherman distanced themselves from the investigation

"Ms. Krawczyk remains steadfast in her support of Toronto Police Service as they investigate her parents' murders. She believes a parallel investigation will only serve to undermine their efforts," Krawczyk's lawyer, John Rosen, said in a letter to CBC News. ''

Stumbled onto this 2019 article and was reminded of earlier theories... fwiw, rbbm

''VANCOUVER _ A disinterested pharmaceutical industry and the conundrum of finding a convincing placebo are just two reasons experts say there has been little quality research into medicinal marijuana.''

''Marijuana’s unconventional journey onto the medical market puts it at odds with more mainstream medications, which typically undergo years of costly scrutiny before being approved for use, said Mark Ware, a pain researcher at McGill University Health Centre in Montreal.''

“We’re in a unique place because a lot of large pharmaceutical companies are reluctant to fund these studies where they don’t necessarily see the incentive for something that they aren’t able to patent,” said Laprairie, who conducts cannabinoid research at the university.''

2019
''A year before his murder, the Apotex founder had agreed to work with CannTrust to produce a slow-release medical marijuana pill that would treat chronic pain, depression, PTSD and more. Sherman and others felt the “pot pill” could be a game-changer in the industry and a disrupter to Big Pharma.''

''The project to develop a slow-release medical marijuana pill was on. Just a year before his murder, Sherman gave the green light on what scientists at his generic drug firm, Apotex, and marijuana firm CannTrust call the “pharmaceuticalization of marijuana.” People suffering from chronic pain, depression, anxiety, seizures, post-traumatic stress disorder and other afflictions might one day benefit, say investors in the project.

“I think Barry decided Apotex better get in on the ground level,” said Aubrey Dan, a businessman who is involved in the project, but was once a Sherman rival in the generic drug world. “Barry was a true entrepreneur. He has always been a risk taker.”

''Health Canada approval is estimated to be two years away, but if it comes, the pills would be a disrupter in the Big Pharma brand-name drug world, and for Sherman’s own generic firm, providing an alternative to highly addictive opioids and other pharmaceuticals. People who worked with the late Sherman say the so-called “pot pill” will be one of his greatest legacies.''

''Pharmaceutical companies, both brand name and generic, produce many drugs (including fentanyl and other highly addictive opioids) that might be replaced by a cannabis pill, according to proponents of the CannTrust plan. That’s why they believe their product might “disrupt” the market.''

''After considering the idea for a time, Sherman said simply, “Let’s do it.” That led to the creation of an agreement between Apotex and CannTrust on Dec. 23, 2016, to “develop novel dosage formats and products,” according to the long-form prospectus Canntrust filed in advance of the company going public.''

''Despite Sherman’s death, both CannTrust and Apotex plan to continue the project, with scientists at Apotex working on unique dosage formats. Sherman’s death was noted in a CannTrust press release on Dec. 18, 2017, three days after the bodies of the couple were discovered.''

Hey I have a quick question about the Winter Cousins..sometimes it's Tim, Jeffrey, Dana and Kerry and sometimes it's Paul, Jeffery, Dana and Kerry...are Paul and Tim the same person? I see sometimes Paul T Barkin, so I assume Tim is his middle name and he became Paul Barkin, after his adoptive parents....does anyone know for sure?

Yes, that's correct, according to KD. From his ebook (approximately pg 138 in my version):

Kerry and Dana fell out of touch with their adoptive parents after they moved out, and life settled down at the Barkins' Forest Hill home. Tim (his first name is Paul, but he goes by his middle name), the eldest, who was adopted twice, first by the Winters, then the Barkins, developed an interest in cooking and worked towards being a chef. He is an outlier among the four, seemingly not affected by any demons. Jeffrey had "mental health issues" and "emotional problems," according to statements in the court case between the cousins and Barry Sherman. Those statements were made, respectively, by Kerry Winter and Barry Sherman. At one point, his sister-in-law Julia (Dana's wife) filed an affidavit saying Jeffrey was "under disability" during the case. Kerry openly says his brother Jeffrey was "bipolar" and struggled in early adulthood, but maintained a good relationship with his parents. (Jeffrey told me he preferred not to answer questions about his past.)

terrifically helpful

The fact that he drove a Mustang, and a convertible at that, must mean he was a bit of a car guy. So he hardly would have abused it by leaving it out in the snow in winter given a choice. And what's wrong with a billionaire driving a 20+ year old car if he likes it and it's not giving him any trouble?
Barry Sherman was notoriously indifferent to vehicles. He drove each one into the ground until it became a 'beater'.

Well I can't see anyone indifferent buying a convertible. They're quite a hassle. But lack of care and maintenance I can see.

The car was registered in Honey's name, probably because she bought it. To Barry it was a car, to get him from A to B. I doubt he really cared what kind of transportation he had. At one time, while he was driving the Mustang, Honey bought him another car for his birthday which he told her to take back to the dealership, so she did.

The following article appeared in Toronto Life magazine in 2008 and resurfaced in 2018 after the murders. It's appeared on this thread in the past. It states at the time of the interview (2008) Barry Sherman was driving a 2005 Crysler Sebring. The Mustang was a 1999. So it's obvious he had more than one vehicle to drive at the time of this interview. Knowing BS's proclivity toward penny pinching I wouldn't be surprised if he was driving an eighteen old car to save the 12 year old Sebring from salt damage. AFAIK , we've never been told what other vehicles were in the garage.

Re visiting the Night Walker and wondering what he looks like in the summer, does he still walks around that neighbourhood?
It's enough to make a body shiver, imo...

''Toronto Police Service

Security video of person identified as a suspect in the murders of Barry and Honey Sherman who were found dead on December 15, 2017. This person's purpose in the neighbourhood is unexplained. The timing of the appearance is in line with when investigators believe the murders took place. Investigators ask the public to pay particular attention to the person's gait, how they are walking. Through analysis it is believed the suspect is between 5'6 3/4" and 5'9 1/2." There may be a legitimate reason this person is in the neighbourhood and police urge the person to come forward. Anyone with information should call Homicide at 416-808-7400 or give a tip anonymously at Crime Stoppers 416-222-8477 (TIPS).''

Is this video from TPS and the crime scene sketch from KD the only real clues available to the public so far?

Off-hand, cannot think of any real clues available to the public beyond the NW video, imo.

''Definition of nightwalker

1: a person who roams about at night especially with criminal intent''
2021
''Of all the people seen on video footage seized from nearby security cameras that night, this person is the only one detectives have been unable to identify and exclude from the investigation, Det. Sgt. Brandon Price said at a news conference at Toronto police headquarters on Tuesday.

"We have been able to eliminate the vast majority of people captured on the video," said Price. "We are left with one individual, whom we have been unable to identify."
Price said police are suspicious of the person's activities because they walk into a "defined area" not captured by video surveillance, stay there for a while, and then leave.

"Through our investigation, we have been unable to determine what this individual's purpose was in the neighbourhood. The timing of this individual's appearance is in line with when we believe the murders took place," said Price. "Based on this evidence, we are classifying this individual as a suspect."

Price said video analysis shows the individual is 5'6" to 5'9" tall, but the person's sex, race and other identifiers cannot be determined.

The video shows the person walking with an unusual gait, where they kick up their right foot with every step.''

This case involving a beloved nephew who arranged the murder of his uncle, has previously been referenced here.
The now jailed nephew, not only resented paying his uncle back for various loans, but also upset that his uncle donated money to charities.

New info. today indicates that not only did the nephew arrange a contract killing of his uncle, but allegedly tried to also order a hit on four other people related in some way with that uncle!

All this to say that maybe it was and still is - a good idea for the surviving Sherman family to take extra security measures.. imo, speculation, fwiw..

''NAPANEE, Ont.—Eleven years after admitting to arranging the contract killing of multimillionaire Toronto businessman and philanthropist Glen Davis, Marshall Ross is standing trial for allegedly trying to have four others murdered — including Davis’s widow.''

''In 2004, Davis, through N.M. Davis Corp., agreed to provide financial backing of up to $2.5 million to Ross who wanted to buy, renovate and sell properties in Toronto. The deal included a formal loan agreement which included interest payable and monthly payments. Over time, Ross dug himself into a deep financial hole but Davis made it clear the money needed to be repaid to the corporation, the prosecutor said.

At the same time, the philanthropist was donating sizable amounts to charities, primarily to the World Wildlife Foundation because of his commitment to conservation.
“This angered Ross,” Heine said''.

''Behind bars at a federal institution near Kingston, Ross and Joe became friends, she continued. In 2019-20, Ross confided to Joe that he intended to escape to Belize and enlisted his help to kill four people: Davis’s widow, Mary Alice; Keith Jones, former chauffeur and general manager of Davis Corp.; Peter Quinn, lawyer to Davis Corp.; and Tom Whealy, a friend and business partner of the corporation.''
