CANADA Canada - CODY LEGEBOKOFF, 21 yo serial killer, Prince George BC, 2009-10

Here is Christie Blatchford's take on it so far...

At one point, Const. Kehler told him he was young, too, of the same age. Now was the time for him to come clean.

You know, he told him, “when you’re taking turns clubbing a deer to death,” that can lead to becoming a serial killer.

“Yeah, I know,” said Mr. Legebokoff. “I’m trying to change my friends.

When Const. Sidhu first told Mr. Legebokoff he was under arrest for Ms. Leslie’s murder, the young man — he was then all of 20 — told him, “I didn’t tell you the truth [before].”

Const. Sidhu told him to not to say anything — he hadn’t been cautioned yet — but Mr. Legebokoff persisted.

“I went there,” he said, “and found her.” His emphasis was on “found.”

As the officer repeatedly told him he had the right to counsel, and that a lawyer would be provided free of charge if he didn’t have his own, Mr. Legebokoff kept saying, “I wanna call my dad.”

I'm thinking that if young Cody cared so much about his dad then he shouldn't have killed these women!

It seems like he gets off on the actual strangulation and time of death.

An expert witness "could not rule out" the use of a pickaroon in some of the injuries one of Cody Alan Legebokoff's alleged victims suffered, the court heard Friday.

In his opening statement to the jury, given at the trial's start on June 2, Crown prosecutor Joseph Temple submitted that investigators found a pickaroon with Maas' blood on it in Legebokoff's apartment.

The forensic pathologist who performed autopsies on two women presented his findings Wednesday as the trial for accused serial killer Cody Alan Legebokoff continued at the Prince George courthouse.

Three days after Jill Stacey Stuchenko was found on Oct. 26, 2009 in a shallow grave in a gravel pit off Otway Road near Foothills Boulevard, Dr. James Stephen conducted an autopsy on her body at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops. And nearly a year later, he did the same work on Cynthia Frances Maas, four days after her body was found Oct. 9, 2010 in L.C. Gunn Park.

Stephen detailed an extensive list of injuries to the two women during testimony.

Cody Allan Legebokoff said he was “involved” in the deaths of three women he is accused of murdering but did not carry out the actual killings... Rather, he said that a drug dealer and two other accomplices carried out the acts but refused to give their names, other than to call them X, Y and Z, for fear of retribution.

Legebokoff said he stands to receive a significant amount of time in a federal penitentiary for what he’s done and did not want to go there with the reputation as a “rat,” or someone who helps convict others, on three murder charges.

“It’s just not in the cards,” Legebokoff said.

Oh, how lame.

About a half hour later, Legebokoff said he and Y went into his bedroom to have a smoke and X came in soon after to say Stuchenko was going to be killed because she owed a lot of money.

“There was a pipe that was right by my toolbox right beside my bed and I picked that up and I gave that to X and he took it and all he did was look at me and nod,” Legebokoff said.

“I knew what I did wasn’t right but there wasn’t much I could really do,” Legebokoff said when asked how he felt about what happened.

This guy is hanging himself with his own lies. Offering up a murder weapon to someone without being asked for one, implies premeditation, doesn't it?

While his wild tale of how the three women died is laughably false, you can see how he constructed it to address how all of the murder weapons belonged to him, why there was blood at his house and why there was blood in his truck. (The "actual murderers" took his truck to dump one of the victim's bodies? and he offered up another murder weapon to finish her off since she wasn't quite dead yet? pffft.)

JMO, naturally.

Here is Christie Blatchford's take on his testimony:

http://www.canada.com/news/Blatchford+Accused+serial+killer+Cody+Legebokoff+unmoved+when+repeatedly+called+liar/10155012/story.html

He admitted causing some of the grievous injuries to the side of the head of teenage victim Loren Donn Leslie, and when prosecutor Joseph Temple pressed him to explain how her fingers and rings were broken, said snappishly, “I said I was stepping on her hands, and her arms were getting in the way!”, as though only a moron wouldn’t instinctively know that moving a body can be tricky.

He was unmoved when repeatedly called — and proven to be — a liar, especially when cornered or when protesting most strongly that he was “100 per cent” telling the truth.

This guy is so obviously a sociopath that you have to wonder how others that knew him didn't see it. I'm pretty sure they did. (Not implying that they knew he was a killer (allegedly at this point).) Scary, scary guy with no feelings. JMO.

Crown prosecutor Joseph Temple highlighted Wednesday apparent discrepancies between what Cody Legebokoff, 24, said during his testimony in the Prince George, B.C., courtroom and the evidence presented during the trial that began June 2...

Temple tried to tease details out of Legebokoff Wednesday, but the defendant was combative and testy, providing terse answers to questions about what people where wearing, where they were positioned and sequences of events...

Legebokoff continued to refuse to provide the names of the three men he said killed Stuchenko, Maas and Montgomery. In response, B.C. Supreme Court Justice Glen Parrett said an application for contempt of court against Legebokoff will be heard at the trial's conclusion.

It seems CL did not get flustered at all when repeatedly called a liar, but there must be something that gets under his skin and would completely unnerve him..
Somehow I think that 'thing' might be revealed in this line below...it sounds like someone very aware of other guys and their um, " dimensions", prowess
and abilities...
Maybe CL has problems, a distortion/ defect of some kind other than the apparent psychological one?
If so, maybe that will rattle him.
Funny too, the remarkably uninspired pseudonyms, XY and Z culprits he blames for the crimes.
Was he thinking of human biology?

Random speculation, moo, imo ect.
Thinking that indeed he does make those kind of observations

bbm.
" I didn't take observations or take notes or anything on how he did it, which way he did it, or far the cut went or how deep the cut was, I didn't take those kind of observations," Legebokoff protested when pressed on his contention he handed Z a kitchen knife to finish off Montgomery after X had beaten her with a steel bar while chasing her through Legebokoff's apartment"

He may not have been upset at continually being called a liar, but he did seem to get upset at being called a sexual offender.

Isreal Keyes offered up information about killing some of his victims, but he was offended by the suggestion that there was a perverted sexual aspect to some of his crimes (even though there was).

Some of these guys have a very warped view of things, don't they?? i.e. murder is o.k., but sexual perversion is not.

An accused serial killer’s attempt to plead guilty to four counts of second-degree murder in a northern British Columbia courtroom has been thwarted by the Crown prosecutor.

Cody Legebokoff, 24, entered the pleas Monday morning in Prince George, before B.C. Supreme Court Justice Glen Parrett started his final instructions to jury members on how they should consider the evidence.

Prosecutor Joseph Temple said the Crown did not consent to the pleas. The Crown is seeking verdicts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Jill Stuchenko and Cynthia Maas, both 35, Natasha Montgomery, 23, and 15-year-old Loren Leslie.

The verdict is in...

A jury in Prince George, B.C., has found Cody Alan Legebokoff guilty on four counts of first-degree murder.

The 24-year-old was charged in the slayings of Loren Leslie, Jill Stuchenko, Cynthia Maas and Natasha Montgomery, who all died in 2009 and 2010. The convictions mark him as Canada's youngest known serial killer.

On 12 separate occasions during his several hours of questioning Legebokoff last month in a courtroom in the northern B.C. city of Prince George, Mr. Heller directly asked him, “How were you feeling at the time?” or “What were you thinking?”

At least twice, Mr. Heller added helpfully, “Emotionally, I mean.”

Every time, what the lawyer got back was the flattest affect — a psychiatric term meaning a marked lack of emotion — this side of the Rockies.

This trial has been overshadowed by the Oscar Pistorius trial, but 4 women were murdered by Legegbokoff. (..and possibly more that no one knows about yet?)

this is from your National Post link:

"In other words, for all his dearly held normalcy, he’s just another garden-variety predator with a virgin/*advertiser censored* view of the world,...."

lovely.... interesting also that his family has stayed away from court

Families of three women and a teenage girl murdered in northern British Columbia by one of Canada's youngest serial killers finally had a chance Friday to tell a judge about the pain they have endured...

During the trial, the three women were portrayed as drug-addicted sex workers, but their friends and family members said Friday that they were also mothers and sisters whose warmth and laughter have been missed.
