''June 17, 2022 3:57PM EDT
One person is in custody after a female victim was set on fire at a Toronto transit station early Friday afternoon.
Police say they were originally called to Kipling Station, near Kipling Avenue and Dundas Street, around 12:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a man assaulting a woman nearby.
According to investigators, a male poured a liquid substance on a female and then ignited it.''

''TTC CEO Rick Leary told CP24 Friday afternoon that the attack occured on a bus and not at track level. Service on Line 2 between Kipling and Islington stations was suspended while police conducted their investigation.

"I can tell you it was TTC employees who responded right there at the incident and were able to help police catch the suspect," he said.''

''A woman in her 20s suffered what police described as “life-altering” injuries Friday after she was set on fire by a man who doused her with an unknown liquid before igniting it.

The attack occurred at Kipling Station in the city’s west end around 12:30 p.m.

The man, whom police did not identify, was arrested and remains in custody.

The woman, whose injuries were not disclosed by police, was aided by bystanders, firefighters, police and TTC special constables, then rushed by ambulance to hospital.

Police did not say whether the man knew the victim, nor did they share any information about a potential motive or charges.''

''A woman remains in serious but stable condition after she was lit on fire in what police called a random attack at Kipling Station on Friday.

The shocking incident is the latest in a string of brazen violence that has occurred at TTC stations in recent months, prompting concerns from riders and calls for officials to implement more safety measures.

“Very devastating knowing that happened,” says one rider. “This can’t be happening in our city.”

Another rider told CityNews she is reevaluating her use of public transit, saying she will consider walking more often when it is possible.''

''Toronto police are advising the public to report any dangerous incident and immediately leave an area if they think there could be a risk of violence.

“We’re advising people that anytime they see anything in the public that they think is a concern — they contact police immediately,” says Toronto Police Const. Ed Parks.

“Anytime any altercations occur, the easiest thing to do is to maintain distance and to start backing away. That’s always the easiest way to prevent the continuation of an offence.”

Police have not determined a motive in Friday’s attack but say they are not ruling out anything, including the possibility of a hate crime.''

''A Toronto man faces charges after a woman was allegedly lit on fire on a TTC bus on Friday, in what police now describe as an alleged “hate-motivated” murder attempt.

Tenzin Norbu, 33, is charged with attempted murder, assault with a weapon, common nuisance and mischief. He is scheduled to appear in court at 2201 Finch Ave. W. on Monday morning.''

''The family of a Toronto woman who died after being set on fire on a TTC bus in what police allege was a “hate-motivated” attack say they are grateful for the support they’ve received to date.

On June 17, the woman, who was reportedly in her 20s, was on board a bus near Kipling Station when a man allegedly poured a flammable liquid on her and then ignited it.

The woman — whose identity is protected by a court-ordered publication ban — was taken to hospital with “critical” burn-related injuries, police said. A page confirmed by a spokesperson to be official communication from the family said she was suffering “full thickness” burns.

Police confirmed Tuesday night the woman had died and the homicide unit had been notified.

“To my sister, we love you and we miss you.''

Wow. That is terrifying and disgusting. Sad to learn she has passed from the attack. I wonder if the public will ever learn the full details.

''Police said Monday that their investigation has revealed that there was no relationship between the young woman and her attacker.

Police also announced the upgraded charge Monday in light of Dolma’s death.

Investigators said 33-year-old Tenzin Norbu of Toronto has now been charged with first-degree murder in the case.

He made a court appearance via video link on Monday morning.

Dolma’s family have previously said that she “lived a life of service to others and cared for many people.”
