CANADA Canada - Lorraine Roach, 58, Peterborough ON, 11 May 2013

That's the other thing that caught my eye dotr. Smyth is a pretty senior guy and to mention that he's involved at this early stage in the investigation makes me wonder if they think there is a connection between Wendy's murder and other killings or crimes.
rbbm. that would be interesting..
"Friends of the family say the Taylors were big supporters of Scouts Canada. Ms. Taylor’s obituary asked family and friends to consider a donation in her name to Scouts Canada.

The Taylors were recent recipients of a Silver Acorn, one of the highest awards in scouting, for their work in the organization, awarded at the Blues Springs Scout reserve in Acton.

She was a long-time employee at the OLG Slots at Kawartha Downs. She and her husband had three children.

A friend of Ms. Taylor’s told The Examiner last week that her husband worked out of the province in western Canada.

Anyone who saw any unusual activity on Valley Rd. on Sept. 26 or 27, or who has any information about the victim or her husband is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122."

" A police helicopter was scouring the Fife’s Bay Road area, where Roach’s Pontiac Montana was found, while the K-9 unit searched the Omemee Rail Trail. The trail runs from Fife’s Bay Road into Omemee, with the opposite end of the trail leading into Jackson Park in the City of Peterborough.

THERE ARE NO LEADS and NO WITNESSES (yet)

Lorraine Roach is:
• 5’4
• Dark brown hair with grey in front
• Brown eyes
• Wearing a three-quarter-length pleated coat and a pink sweater last time she was seen
"
ANYONE with ANY INFORMATION is asked to call Peterborough County OPP at 705-742-0401 or Crime Stoppers 1-888-310-1122

There are still no leads or updates and police are 'still working' on my moms case.
We recently did an interview with CHEX local news and it will be airing March 18th as part of a week long series on missing people in our area.
I have moved back home to be closer with family and to be closer for doing interviews and searches. If anyone has any new question or unresolved ones please feel free to post as I am ready and able now to answer them. (It is still extremely difficult with what is happening but I want to get ou as much information as I can to anyone who will listen and wants to help)
Thank you all again.

"Mrs. Roach was reported missing three days after she was last seen. Her Pontiac Montana van was found the same day near the access point to the Trans Canada Trail on Akinson Road. OPP had been scouring the area ever since with helicopters, the K-9 unit, all-terrain vehicles and a canoe, searching heavily-wooded areas and bodies of water.
Mrs. Roach’s daughter says family has physically scoured areas where police weren’t looking, walking through trails, bushes and marshes in hopes of finding their loved one.
“We will continue to search until we find her,” Ms DeBernardi says.
The family has also contacted a pyschic, who believes Mrs. Roach will be found. Ms DeBernardi hopes the pyschic is right.
“I have to believe that,” she says."

The Omemee rail trail you mention in your post, dotr.....I am thinking that is part of the Trans Canada Trail and as it's name suggests, it goes across Canada.
Lorraine technically could've walked very far along the trail.... it crosses the countryside....she may not be that close to Peterborough.

She was not reported as distressed by my father (last to see her and report her missing) when he last saw her. She apparently was home at 2am to pick up more money for the casino. This was not a 'weird' or 'off' time for her to be up/going out. She was a night owl and frequented the casino late at night as well as being up all night at home with insomnia. She has also gone to the casino for extended periods and this did not seem off to us at first (I had called my dad the day before for mothers day and he said she was still at the casino from the night before and it did not seem strange to me or worry me) Also the cab companies did not report picking her up in that time.

The van was found locked and facing south (away from home) It was reported as not being in an accident and did have gas in the tank. It also had her purse inside but not her cell phone or money.

Thank you everyone for the interest. Any help and questions are welcome because it just might turn something up as the investigators still have zero leads or clues. She has left no paper trail (no activity on anything ie cell phone health card credit cards etc) there currently have still been no 'clues' found that she was in the area her van was located either (shoe, matted down grass etc). She also would never of stopped to help or pick someone up or go for a quick pee on the side of the road (previous evidence supports this)

Bumping this post in the hopes it will stir someone's memory, it seems like Lorraine just stepped out of the car for a moment to get something, or because she thought she had car trouble. But why leave the purse, was there anything of sentimental value in it, or was it too heavy to carry any distance?
rbbm.

Here's a map showing Lorraine's house and where her van was found. It looks like they are approximately 7 km apart, following rural roads.

http://goo.gl/maps/zb1gm

Chemong and Parkhill Roads are not rural. They are paved, 4 lanes in some spots and both have a lot of traffic. To get to either of these road from her house, the other roads would be rural IMO.

Keep in mind the city dwellers would find this area very rural. I live in London ON (pop almost 500,000) and relatives in T.O. think we live in the sticks.

It really doesn't matter if the road is paved or not, it is more about the traffic levels. How busy are these roads? This would be helpful to the rest of us who aren't from the area.

Still worried about Lorraine,
N.

The road her van was found on was a paved road yes... it was just on the 'outside' of the city you could technically say, but it is a VERY busy road. The path it was beside is used constantly, people routinely walk their dogs there daily and ride there bikes on it etc. While searching there, there was always someone around, walking biking, driving by.

The contents still in her van were looked to be 'rummaged through- disturbed-messy-some things missing'... so her just getting out for a walk etc is very unlikely.. especially since this would have been 100% against her character to get out of her van on the side of the road at any time of day... even to pee. Shed never do it. And the van had ga and was in working condition when it was picked up by police.
Thanks for bumping :)

The fact that the contents in her van looked to be rummaged through....could be staged. Also, what position was the driver's seat and rear view mirror in? Did the Police dust the rear view mirror and steering wheel for prints? Was the seat in the position Lorraine uses to drive?

I still say you need to start the search from the last place Lorraine was seen, and that was her home (seems to be a fair bit of bush out back).
I say that because it is being stressed that Lorraine would not step out of her vehicle (if she was by herself) at any time of day....then, in my opinion, it is unlikely she drove it to Lily Lk Rd and got out of her van.

Lily Lk Rd might be a busy road, but I doubt it was busy in the middle of the night. Also, at night, a perp could pay extra attention to vehicle lights in the vicinity, and be very aware of when another vehicle is coming from a distance.

I hope you get answers this spring.

Edited to add: Are the Police planning another search, or what is their position on Lorraine's disappearance?

Praying that Lorraine is found safe and well. would also be interested to see if another search is being planned as spring appears to be here finally.

I noticed that some of her online articles that I read recounted panic attacks she has had and she often wrote about stress being a large contributing factor. The youtube video mentioned something about working through some family issues so there must have been some stress in her life from that.

I realize that there are many things she would not normally do but what if she was having a large panic attack?

Was she having trouble managing money? Was she having anger issues that would seem to flare up suddenly?

Did the police dust her van for fingerprints? The rear-view mirror and steering wheel? Was the driver's seat in position for Lorraine to drive? The rear view mirror?

The OPP dont have any searches planned as of right now no. They dont spend resources on searches unless there has been a specific tip or clue that she has been seen somewhere. We have gottn them to include the alberta police now after many suggestions that she could be out there (a trip was in the works with my parents to go there to see her birth home Bruderheim)
The family has some searches planned for us and I am currently planning a postering event that we hope goes Canada wide. (see facebook page for more info) :)

The OPP did dust the entire van for prints but all they can tell us so far is there was male DNA in the van along with my moms DNA
They have gotten my dads DNA to compare it to see if it is an unknown male (my dads DNA will be in the van regardless because he was in it before)

Yes we agree and agree the van could definitely be staged

The position of the drivers seat was back as if someone was 'sleeping' in it. Her jacket was also thrown over the drivers seat headrest (not neatly)

If she had a panic attack, which could of happened... where is she now. She needs medication for her heart and there has been no use of her health card etc and no name changes (like maiden name or other family last names)
Could you clarify on that a little more docwho3?
ALso she was not an angry woman no... Her anger came out in sadness and depression...

Thanks guys
