She has been identified through DNA and dental records as an unidentified remains case recovered in Saint-Eustache, Quebec, in March 1979. I do not believe this body was ever in the NCMPUR or Quebec Coroner databases, and could find no other information on the exact date or recovery circumstances besides that this death is considered a homicide, and the suspect died in 1979.

Rest in peace, Pamela. Thank goodness for advancements in DNA and technology that have helped make resolutions like this possible. As hard as this news is, it's even harder to go so many years never knowing what happened to your loved one. This gives us so much hope for other missing people to be found. My love goes out to her family during this hard time.

And to all the people out there who have committed crimes like this in the past, I hope you are forever looking over your shoulder, wondering if you might be next. Or better yet, spare yourself the torture and come forward. It's time.

n 2025, a forensic dentist was able to connect Harvey's case with the unidentified homicide victim, and follow-up tests by the Quebec coroner's office confirmed the match.

Police say detectives determined the person believed to be responsible for her killing died in 1979.

A spokesperson with the Quebec provincial police would not provide further comment about the presumed killer or details about the homicide investigation.

The Montreal Gazette reported on March 21, 1979, that an unidentified young woman found by two hunters in a wooded area of St. Eustache had been shot twice in the head

“After 47 years of uncertainty, Pamela Harvey’s family can finally begin to grieve with answers, knowing that her identity has been restored with dignity and care,” a joint news release states. “Pamela was never forgotten, and her case reflects the unwavering perseverance of investigators across jurisdictions who believed that answers were still possible.”

Her parents, Yvonne and Gerald Harvey, took in her young son and raised him. The family never stopped looking for Harvey, even hiring a private detective in the early 1990s who turned up a promising, but ultimately fruitless lead. Gerald Harvey died in 2015.

Harvey grew up in McKellar, Ont., near Parry Sound. In her late teens, she moved to B.C., married and had a son, before moving to Sudbury in 1977 and taking a job serving at the Kingsway Hotel.

Sarah May is the author of the 2019 book “Unsolved Sudbury: Missing. Murdered. Unexplained”, in which she details Harvey’s disappearance.

May told Sudbury.com in 2019 that her research suggests Harvey was murdered due to her knowledge of a 1978 Sudbury murder linked to a dispute involving rival outlaw biker gangs.

Harvey, May learned, was dating a man named Leonard Daoust, who was a member of the Coffin Wheelers biker gang. On Nov. 12, 1978, Daoust murdered a man named James Dacey on the street across from the Kingsway Hotel, and went on to spend 27 years in prison for the crime.

Then, in March 1979, the body of an unidentified woman was discovered in St-Eustache, Que.

“Investigators determined that she was the victim of a homicide,” the March 31 joint press release states. “Despite the limitations of forensic science at the time, the evidence was carefully collected and preserved by investigators and LSJML forensic specialists and has been securely maintained ever since.”
