GUILTY Canada - Remains of 6 infants found, Andrea Giesbrecht charged, Winnipeg, Oct 2014

I think she is lucky to live in Canada. If she lived in the States she probably would be facing several murder charges.
I also wonder what her husbands role in this was? How would it be possible to conceal 6 pregnancies into the 3rd trimester?
I'm wondering what he knew too. She delivered those babies somewhere. Six times.

Crown begins by telling judge Jeremy Giesbrecht, husband of accused, DID show up to court today. No arrest warrant needed.

Mike McIntyre ‏@mikeoncrime 3m3 minutes ago
However, Crown says the will have a "request" to make regarding him and his testimony later this morning. No other info.

Mike McIntyre ‏@mikeoncrime 2m2 minutes ago
First witness this morning is Danielle Devereaux, a friend of Andrea Giesbrecht. She's extremely emotional on stand right off hop.

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB 3m3 minutes ago
Testimony starts this morning with a woman who works as trial coordinator. Knows Andrea Giesbrecht.

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB 2m2 minutes ago
Danielle Devereaux looks anxious. Her voice breaks as she is asked to identify Giesbrecht in court. She could barely bring herself to look.

Caroline Barghout ‏@cbarghout 2m2 minutes ago
Danielle Devereux first on the stand. She met Andrea in 1996 and worked with her till 2000 in the filing room Pioneer Grain.

Mike McIntyre ‏@mikeoncrime 52s52 seconds ago
Devereaux worked with Giesbrecht between 1996-2000. Calls her a "really good friend" who often joked she was pregnant.

Caroline Barghout ‏@cbarghout 1m1 minute ago
Devereux said "she was a good friend to me. I didn't know anyone in the city." She said Andrea was pregnant in 1997.

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB 38s39 seconds ago
Devereaux and Giesbrecht worked together from 1996-2000 in filing room at Pioneer Grain. Giesbrecht pregnant when they met.

Mike McIntyre ‏@mikeoncrime 1m1 minute ago
Devereaux said Giesbrecht revealed to her in 1997 that she was pregnant. Wasn't married then, but dating future husband.

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB now5 seconds ago
Devereaux says Giesbrecht pregnant in 1997. Says it wasn't obvious. Giesbrecht slim, tall. Says Giesbrecht 'didn't want to have the baby.'

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB 29s30 seconds ago
Devereaux says Giesbrecht made daily comments about not wanting baby. Says she talked about self aborting by punching herself, using hanger.

Caroline Barghout ‏@cbarghout 23s24 seconds ago
Devereux "She didn't want to be pregnant. She said she didn't want to have the baby and talked about plans on how to abort the baby".

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB 5s6 seconds ago
So for the first time, a witness has told court Giesbrecht talked about not wanting baby, talking about aborting it herself.

Mike McIntyre ‏@mikeoncrime now4 seconds ago
Friend says she repeatedly encouraged Giesbrecht not to self-abort. To go to medical professionals.

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB 3s4 seconds ago
Devereaux testified Giesbrecht told her she was hiding it from her then boyfriend, future husband...Jeremy Giesbrecht.

Mike McIntyre ‏@mikeoncrime 11s12 seconds ago
Giesbrecht said she hadn't told anyone else she was pregnant, was "hiding it." Wasn't obvious to people she was pregnant.

Caroline Barghout ‏@cbarghout now12 seconds ago
She said Giesbrecht didn't tell anyone at work "Everybody was shocked because one day she was at work and the next day she had the baby".

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB 8s9 seconds ago
Giesbrecht ended up having the baby. Told Devereaux she drove herself to hospital in middle of night.

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB 18s19 seconds ago
Devereaux says everyone at work was shocked. Says no one knew about pregnancy.

Mike McIntyre ‏@mikeoncrime 32s32 seconds ago
Friend says this baby Giesbrecht didn't want to have in 1997 ended up being her now oldest son. She wanted to give up for adoption.

Mike McIntyre ‏@mikeoncrime 17s17 seconds ago
Friend says Giesbrecht claims only reason she kept that baby is because her mother, boyfriend (now husband) found out about birth.

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB 37s37 seconds ago
The baby in question is still alive, the older of Giesbrecht's two sons. Court hears she had wanted to give up for adoption.

Mike McIntyre ‏@mikeoncrime 13s14 seconds ago
Friend says even in late stages of this particular pregnancy it wasn't obvious Giesbrecht was carrying. Would cover small baby bump well.

Mike McIntyre ‏@mikeoncrime 1m1 minute ago
There was another time, prior to this pregnancy and birth, where Giesbrecht called in sick to work with a miscarriage, friend says.

Mike McIntyre ‏@mikeoncrime now10 seconds ago
Judge issues publication ban, at Crown request, to keep names private of Giesbrecht's two sons who were "born alive and remain alive."

I think she is lucky to live in Canada. If she lived in the States she probably would be facing several murder charges.
I also wonder what her husbands role in this was? How would it be possible to conceal 6 pregnancies into the 3rd trimester?

Exactly, how is he not being charged with something himself.?

I think he will claim he knew nothing.

How is she not charged with murder? Guess Crown can't prove anything.....but wow.....just wow.....

Mike McIntyre ‏@mikeoncrime 33s34 seconds ago
Friend says in addition to punching herself in stomach or using coat hanger, Giesbrecht spoke of throwing herself on chair to self-abort.

Mike McIntyre ‏@mikeoncrime 44s44 seconds ago
Friend say Giesbrecht claimed there was "blood on sidewalk" when she called in sick to work from pay phone due to miscarriage.

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB now5 seconds ago
Court hearing Giesbrecht was very worried about people finding out she was pregnant. Never explained why she felt she couldn't tell people.

Mike McIntyre ‏@mikeoncrime 14s15 seconds ago
Giesbrecht would often call in sick to work. And regularly expressed concern about others finding out she was pregnant. Didn't say why.

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB now10 seconds ago
Witness says Giesbrecht was 'fun...different....made me laugh...a good friend.' Says friendship eventually ended in 2000 when she left job.

Caroline Barghout ‏@cbarghout 12s12 seconds ago
Devereux "When I met Andrea she was fun and she was different shed often talk about getting it together. Her finances".

Caroline Barghout ‏@cbarghout now10 seconds ago
...I was a friend to her. She gambled so we would joke about that. We joked a lot," Devereux said.

Mike McIntyre ‏@mikeoncrime now5 seconds ago
Friend identifies documents found with baby remains in locker as being from where she, Giesbrecht worked between 1996-2000.

Mike McIntyre ‏@mikeoncrime 50s50 seconds ago
This evidence from friend may shape Crown's theory on "aging" these babies from during that 1996-2000 time frame.

Josh Crabb ‏@JoshRCrabb 19m19 minutes ago
Friend says Giesbrecht spoke with social worker after delivering baby, wanted to give up baby for adoption.

Caroline Barghout ‏@cbarghout 8s9 seconds ago
Devereux: "He (Jeremy) worked at KFC and he used to deliver and Andrea was a bit suspicious and she said she went to spy on him".

Caroline Barghout ‏@cbarghout 24s24 seconds ago
Crown wanted to know what Andrea and Jeremy were like together.
Devereux: "there's nothing that stands out to me".

Jill Macyshon ‏@JillMacyshonCTV 8m8 minutes ago
She goes on to say Giesbrecht told her she was "suspicious" of husband. Followed him on job occasionally. He delivered fast food.

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB 7m7 minutes ago
Court now hearing about Giesbrecht having a gambling problem. Devereaux says it impacted Giesbrecht's entire life.

Mike McIntyre ‏@mikeoncrime 6m6 minutes ago
Friend says Giesbrecht had major gambling issues, debt. Was regular at casino. Pawned engagement ring for cash to gamble.

Caroline Barghout ‏@cbarghout 6m6 minutes ago
Devereux said she and Giesbrecht would go to Crystal Casino and at lunch they went to McPhillips St Station.

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB 6m6 minutes ago
Court hears Giesbrecht's gambling led to her calling in sick to work, pawning engagement ring for cash.

Caroline Barghout ‏@cbarghout 6m6 minutes ago
She said Andrea had a gambling problem. Giesbrecht had pawned off her engagement ring before her wedding & called in sick to work regularly

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB now4 seconds ago
Witness says she would ask Giesbrecht why he didn't just tell Jeremy (the father and now her husband) about pregnancy.

Caroline Barghout ‏@cbarghout 1m1 minute ago
Devereux "I asked how Jeremy did not know she was pregnant if she was having sex and had a baby bump". Giesbrecht told her he didn't notice

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB 24s25 seconds ago
Defence clearly trying to suggest to Devereaux that things Giesbrecht had told her were either made up or exaggerated.

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB now7 seconds ago
Defence asks witness why she didn't say anything to anyone if she was worried about Giesbrecht self-aborting.

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB 36s36 seconds ago
Witness says she was worried but was trying to be a good friend and honour Giesbrecht's wishes to keep it private. Says she was 18, young.

Caroline Barghout ‏@cbarghout 10s10 seconds ago
Devereux asked why she didn't tell anyone Giesbrecht talked about aborting the baby. She said "I was 18,19. I didn't know how to handle it".

Mike McIntyre ‏@mikeoncrime 5m5 minutes ago
Next witness: Andrea Giesbrecht's husband.

Mike McIntyre ‏@mikeoncrime now8 seconds ago
Crown says they want to adjourn trial now until continuation dates on August. Not ready to put husband on stand. Need to speak with him.

Mike McIntyre ‏@mikeoncrime now3 seconds ago
Crown says there were issues getting husband to attend. Don't know what he's going to say until they speak with him.

Mike McIntyre ‏@mikeoncrime now10 seconds ago
Trial is adjourned until 2:30 to figure out what the next move is.

OMG this case is a disaster in so many ways.

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB now5 seconds ago
It sounds like both sides unclear on exactly what husband Jeremy Giesbrecht is planning to say. He has given two statements in past.

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB 21m21 minutes ago
Sounds like Giesbrecht trial will continue this afternoon but not with the husband. A police officer will be bumped up and take stand now.

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB 20m20 minutes ago
Either way, husband won't be testifying today at Giesbrecht trial. He will not take stand until sometime in August after the break.

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB 10m10 minutes ago
Winnipeg Police Det. Sgt. Edward Chalmers testifying this afternoon at Giesbrecht trial. He's with child abuse unit.

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB 5m5 minutes ago
Witness was part of group of officers who arrested Giesbrecht on Oct. 20, 2014.

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB 4m4 minutes ago
Det. Sgt. says Giesbrecht's husband came to the door, said his wife was sleeping downstairs.

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB 3m3 minutes ago
Witness says he told Giesbrecht's husband he was there to arrest his wife for murder. Husband looked stunned.

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB 17s17 seconds ago
Court hears Giesbrecht arrested shortly before 11pm that night. Husband Jeremy invites officers inside the house.

Caroline Barghout ‏@cbarghout 7m7 minutes ago
Det Edward Chalmers on the stand now. He and 3 other officers from child abuse unit arrested Giesbrecht at approx 10:37pm on Oct 20, 2014.

Caroline Barghout ‏@cbarghout 22s22 seconds ago
Police arrested her. And Chalmers and another officer went into the house with Jeremy Giesbrecht.

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB now7 seconds ago
So this testimony confirms police did initially arrest Giesbrecht for murder. She's not charged with that now, only concealing remains. <----this must have gone for Crown opinion and they decided to go with the concealing charges instead,

Caroline Barghout ‏@cbarghout 18s19 seconds ago
Chalmers is not allowed to testify to what Jeremy Giesbrecht responded because it would be hearsay.

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB 17s17 seconds ago
At the time, husband Jeremy Giesbrecht would not provide a statement, Chalmers testifies. Chalmers says he left after that.

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB now7 seconds ago
The next day, Chalmers says Jeremy Giesbrecht calls with questions but again won't give statement. Police go back to the Giesbrecht house.

Caroline Barghout ‏@cbarghout 7m7 minutes ago
Chalmers said Jeremy Giesbrecht had phoned him twice and wanted to talk. Next day he went to Giesbrecht's home. He wasn't home.

Caroline Barghout ‏@cbarghout 7m7 minutes ago
So Chalmers canvassed the neighbourhood and was in a neighbours home when his partner called to say Jeremy and his sister returned home.

Caroline Barghout ‏@cbarghout 7m7 minutes ago
His sister refused to give police her name and told Jeremy not to speak with the officers.
Chalmers got her name by running her plates.

Josh Crabb ‏@JoshRCrabb 12m12 minutes ago
Det. Sgt. Chalmers got a call from Jeremy the next day. He told court "I told Jeremy there were 4 infant bodies found at the storage locker

Caroline Barghout ‏@cbarghout 7m7 minutes ago
That is the last witness of the day.

680 CJOB ‏@680CJOB 5m5 minutes ago
Giesbrecht trial now wrapping up. Will be on a break until summer. Could be back in July, potential not till end of August.

Wonder what was in the Mini Storage back then?
