Canada - Dawn Dumont Walker, 48, accused of abducting her son and faking their deaths, Saskatoon, 23 Jul 2022

Just to note, if she took her truck there and then left town, she'd have needed someone to pick her up.

Same if someone else took her truck there.

Unless it's walkable back to her place.

Snipped for focus.
I suspect her purse was found in the park early Saturday morning ie 9:30 am, and turned into police.

It was probably only when she was officially reported missing to.police on Sunday evening, that LE went to the park to follow up on the lead of her purse/ID having been found there. Then they ID'd her truck.

JMO

"On Sunday, July 24, Vincent Jansen and his mother, Dawn Walker, were reported missing by Walker’s co-workers, and Jansen was notified."

Is there any information about what the dogs indicated?

“We have a drone here that’s just arrived now, we have police dog service coming, we have air resources that we’re mobilizing as well as a water search, assisting resources, as well as our RCMP search and rescue team, are mobilizing as well,” said RCMP Staff Sgt. Greg Abbott."

Trying to better understand the bigger picture, summarizing some of the comments upthread ...

Regarding domestic violence allegations, we don't know whether this relates to the father of the 7 year old or someone else.

We do know that police reports were filed, that Dawn's co-workers allege domestic violence, and that the father of the 7 year old has never been charged.

We know that Dawn wanted to take the child and move away from Saskatoon three times, perhaps viewing Victoria and Ottawa as better options for her FSIN role. We know that her son's father prevented her from taking the child away from Saskatoon. He is married and has a daughter with his wife.

Dawn is 48 year old, the child is 7. Looks like a capable father, nice kitchen. I'm curious - is that typical colouring skill for a 7 year old?

I do think there is a possibility that she was wanting to 'win' the custody battle and running off secretly might be one way to do so.

I would like to know the custody agreement and why he prevented her from leaving. I understand they have a child together, I don't understand holding her down in one location while other arrangements are made for visitation. Dad's second marriage and I don't think he and Dawn were ever married.Dads family seems to be very focused on only the boy.

I'm sure she was temped, but it means changing her appearance and that of the child, as well as restarting her life outside the culture where she works and lives, the Indigenous community.

There definitely seems to be some custodial issues - given her three efforts to move away from Saskatoon.

It would be quite a radical move for a comedian and nominee for The Leacock Medal for Humour award.

There is a 7 year old child between Dawn and the boy's father. The father is not preventing Dawn from moving to Ottawa or Victoria. She can live where ever she wants.

In Canada, one parent cannot deprive the child of a relationship with the other parent. She cannot take the child away from a healthy relationship with the father. Dawn can leave, but the child remains in Saskatoon to have a relationship with his father.

The father might be great. And we can't ignore that.
But he also might be a jerk.
Where is Dawn? Where is Vincent?
Did they run off? Did Dawn want to move on despite Vincent's ties to his father? Did she hide? Or, did Dawn disappear without choice?
This case is disturbing either way.

Since she vanished, she has been painted as a tragic victim of domestic abuse.

Perhaps we should look at who she is beyond that. She is a comedian. She's apparently one of the funniest people in Canada. Why would she take a 7 year old to the river after the child has had a long, intense day. He was fed and ready for bed at 6:30 PM. Were they going to sleep by the river on Saturday (July 23) before driving to Edmonton the following morning to see the Pope?

“With her communication skills, her personality, and her attitude, it was a daily thing to hear from her or to give her a call, so everyone knew something was wrong when we didn’t hear from her,” Cameron said. “When her dog was in her house barking, there was dog poop and urine in her house, something was wrong. Her son’s iPad was still in the room, her suitcase and everything is still in the room."

She was to leave for the Pope’s visit yesterday (Sunday), so something was wrong.”

I doubt the father would hurt his son. The official missing person's page for Vincent shows a loving family with a little sister on his father's side.

Did Dawn run away to start a new life? Unlikely. She has quite a remarkable and successful life with the FSIN, and as a national comedian and humour author.

That leaves the possibility of a water incident on the South Saskatchewan River at Chief Whitecaps Park five days after the fire department issued a water safety warning and rescued 3 people from the area near where Dawn's vehicle is parked.

If they were carried away by the river, then we should hear pretty soon that their bodies have been found. Sadly,it does seem the most likely scenario, other than the fact that no one saw it happen.

If Dawn has gone elsewhere to start a new life, here is another photo to go with the recent book nomination.

Not necessarily. A weir is a very dangerous part of the river because people are sucked in and churned like in a washing machine. If they went into the river near the vehicle, they could be in the weir.

not sure why they would have stopped at this park - would be interesting to know if they had been there before or if it had any special meaning for them- no one has said that fishing gear was found or that anyone saw them, which is odd. Maybe they stopped to see the sun set? I also would not take a handbag out with me to go fishing or swimming....I could possibly see the boy getting too close or too deep in water without thinking too hard and her trying to save him. Were either of them swimmers? Did they have bathing suits if he was just droppped off 30 minutes before? Also- what is the water temperature of the river?

Isn't she too famous to just start over somewhere? Or is she going to some remote corner of indiginous peoples' land and everyone is going to help hide her? It just seems unlikely. IMO.

Wondering if Dawn was inclined to pray at rivers edge before traveling to see the pope? speculation.

I've been looking for a link to who said she was going fishing - anyone have it handy?

Police reported that they found the vehicle, the purse, the blanket spread out next to the river, no cell phone. Most people keep the cell phone on their body, so no surprise that she and her cell phone are missing.

No mention of police discovering fishing rods leaves me wondering whether this was fishing with a stick and a string, or actual fishing. Is the theory that they were standing on the edge of the river, the boy lost his footing, the mother went in after him and they held on to their fishing rods? Perhaps a criminal found them at the edge of the river and kidnapped them and their fishing rods?

It sounds like the child went to summer day-camp first thing in the morning. After the program ended, he had pizza supper with his sister, father and step mother. Then the family went to an amusement park where he rode the mini-train. At the end of a long day for a 7 year old, did his mother drive him 15-30 minutes South of Saskatoon to the edge of a non-swimming river? Perhaps the mother and child were kidnapped from where ever the father and mother met for the child around 6 PM?

I'll look for water temps, but from everything I've read it is a boating river where dogs play in the water near the shore. There is no swimming in the river within the Saskatoon City Limits due to water safety concerns, but the fire department has no jurisdiction on the river South of Saskatoon.

What a fascinating, talented, respected person she is. I truly hope there is a positive outcome for her and her son.
