After months of searching for a missing Whistler man have yielded no results, the RCMP are appealing to the public for tips.
Willy Lynskey, 21, was initially reported missing by his family on Apr. 14 of this year. A student at BCIT at the time, an investigation was quickly launched by the Vancouver Police. They were able to trace his steps; video showed Willy boarding a Greyhound bus to Edmonton alone around 7 p.m. on April 12. He checked into Century Casino and Hotel the following day.

There was also a cellphone ping around Calgary on April 14. That was enough for Vancouver police to deem him safe and close their investigation. But the Lynskey family has still not heard from Willy.

"They labelled him as a young adult distancing himself from family and friends — which they have the right to do — and that they could no longer monitor him under the Privacy Act," said mother Heather Lynskey. "Which was very shocking to me, because he was still missing. Nobody had talked to him... it's certainly out of character."

His family last saw Willy on the weekend of April 1, and had dinner with him on consecutive nights to celebrate his birthday. He confirmed he was going to join them at a family function over the Easter Weekend, which was planned for days after he boarded the bus to Edmonton.

"He was talking, he was happy, he was telling stories, he didn't give any signs of anything... nothing that would indicate whatever it is that he's going through, said Lynskey.
Since then, the Lynskeys have received no word from their son. His social media and bank accounts haven't been active, and none of his friends have heard from him either. The Whistler RCMP opened its own missing persons file in May.

The last time that Whistler resident Heather Lynskey saw her son 21-year-old Willy, he had only a month to go before he would graduate from a computer programming course at BCIT.

Then, on April 13, she received news from his brother, who he lived with in Vancouver, that sent her into a panic.

“He said, ‘You know, now that I think of it, I’m not sure that he came home last night,'” she said.
Lynskey hired private investigator Denis Gagnon, who has found little detail that could uncover any motive for Willy’s disappearance.

“We’ve done forensics on the computer extensively, we’ve done social media, searched social media… and a multitude of things to try and locate him,” Gagnon said.

“Now we would like the public to help us.”

The Whistler RCMP have also opened an investigation into Willy’s disappearance.

“The fact that he’s been missing this long is certainly a concern,” said RCMP Const. Steve LeClair.

Lynskey told Global News that she needs the “torture to stop.” She has set up a Facebook page with the hope of generating leads.

..."We want to poster the city. I want to put posters everywhere. If he was here, he travelled here somehow, on a bus, hitchhiking, he had to have eaten food here or something. Somebody out here may have seen him," said Heather Lynskey.

William (Willy) Lynskey was studying computer programming at BCIT in Vancouver at the time of his disappearance. In April 2017, his brother realized Lynskey hadn't come home the previous night and wasn't responding to texts, Heather told CBC.

While Lynskey’s search has yielded few results, she’s recently been given new hope as cleaning staff at a shopping centre in Banff, Alta. found William’s driver’s licence lodged in the crack in a leather chair. The licence has reinvigorated Lynskey’s search, but she says cleaners found the piece of identification in the fall and Lynskey hadn’t found out about it until recently.

“It's the first and only sign we've had of my son possibly still being out there somewhere,” she said.

Lynskey is now in Banff plastering posters anywhere she can in hopes of landing more clues that lead to her son’s whereabouts. So far, she says, there have been a few leads, but nothing solid.

RCMP in Whistler say there isn’t any evidence to suggest foul play, but continue to investigate.

“We’re treating this as a serious missing person case,” said Const. Steve LeClair with Whistler RCMP. “My gut feeling is that he is travelling and we would like to get in touch with him to confirm his well-being.”

Officers describe William as Caucasian man with brown hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen with a beard and short hair. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Whistler RCMP.

Body of Willy Lynskey, missing for over a year, found in Banff National Park

Police have confirmed that human remains discovered last week in Banff National Park were that of Willy Lynskey, a 22-year-old Whistler man who was first reported missing over a year ago.
On Wednesday, April 25, a group of Swiss hikers came across the body in an area near Lake Minnewanka, roughly 17 kilometres from the town of Banff. The Alberta Medical Examiner later identified the body through dental records.

Although the cause of death has not been confirmed, police say it is not being treated as suspicious. The medical examiner has not yet confirmed how much time passed between Lynskey’s death and the recovery of his body.

Lynskey’s family has said that he exhibited no signs of mental illness before his disappearance, but they now believe he was suffering from depression that was possibly brought on by stress at school.

On April 12, 2017, he boarded a Greyhound from where he was studying computer programming at BCIT in Vancouver, and went to Edmonton. Would the semester have been finished by April 12? Was he leaving school, or was he finished school?
