''Police investigate after a woman died following an assault at Yonge and King streets in downtown Toronto Friday January 20, 2023.
They said the man fled and the woman has since died.

Paramedics responded to the scene but did not transport anyone, Toronto Paramedic Services said.

At 1 p.m. police said they were searching for a suspect and issued a description for a man believed to be in his 4os. Just over an hour later at around 2:15 they said they had a suspect in custody.

There is a heavy police presence in the area and officers have cordoned off a long stretch of Yonge Street as they investigate.

Drivers are being advised to expect delays in the busy area.

Police are asking anyone with information to call 9-1-1.''

''About an hour after this assault, police received reports of a man trying to push a victim onto the subway tracks at Rosedale Station. No injuries were reported, and that suspect was arrested.

Police tell CityNews the subway incident is unrelated to the fatal assault. There is no threat to the public.''

It was not clear if she died at the scene. Images posted to social media show a pool of blood outside a Hero Burger location.
The man fled.
Cops described him as white, about 40 years old, with a thin build, red hair braided at the back and a beard. He was wearing a brown vest, grey hoodie and blue jeans.''

''A woman in her 70s or 80s was killed on Friday morning in a brazen and allegedly unprovoked attack as she walked along the sidewalk in the heart of downtown Toronto, police say.

Investigators are still working to identify the victim, Acting Insp. Craig Young told reporters at the scene outside a Hero Certified Burgers location on Yonge Street just north of King Street.

Meanwhile, a man in his 30s “was taken into custody without incident,” Young said, describing how the man allegedly pushed the woman to the ground on the sidewalk before fleeing shortly after 11:30 a.m.''

''The woman “sustained serious injuries to her face and head” and died at the scene, Young said, describing her death as a “very tragic occurrence and one of a series of tragic occurrences that have happened in our city recently.”

''Police are also investigating two reports of property damage they received on Friday morning in the downtown core, where the description of the suspect “was close” to that of the man who was arrested in connection with the alleged attack, he said.''

'Young also said police were working on notifying the woman’s family about her death.''

''The man accused of randomly shoving an 89-year-old woman to the ground, killing her, in the heart of downtown Toronto has once again refused to appear in court for a bail hearing.

Ryan Cunneen, 37, of no fixed address, is facing a charge of manslaughter and has been in custody since his arrest on Jan. 20.

On Monday, Cunneen refused to show up to a College Park courtroom in person and would not address the justice of the peace by phone.

The justice of the peace rescheduled the case to return to court Tuesday.''
