Canadian forensic anthropologist Scott Fairgrieve joins Casey Anthony's defense

Sounds like a new science. I suspect Caylee has been cremated. He may be a specialist in pulverization of bones ..who knows?

Well if it is a new science, I'm guessing that JB thinks the air samples will be allowed in the prosecution

I think air samples should always be allowed. Especially in this case. I would assume numerous air samples are available.

Actually, (I did extensive study on the Russian Imperial Family) - when they were murdered they were taken to a ditch, dumped with a lyme material that was supposed to burn them, like acid - when it didn't do the job they came back to the spot and tried to burn the bodies - that did not work either - the entire family AND doctor, nurse, nanny were all there, just not in tact

I bleieve the same way Caylee was found - NOW I wonder if the chemicals that LE took from the house, were used on Caylee to burn the body in some way

That happens to be his expertise in his field of forensic anthropology. For example, when the Russian imperial family was murdered, two members of the family were cremated - a forensic anthropologist who specialized in cremation remains studied the bone fragments to assess the type of bone found, when it could have been cremated and how it might have been cremated. Since the bones had been buried since 1918, it took a forensic anthropologist who specialized in this to distinguish the damage done to the bones from that done by natural decomposition.

p.s. this doesn't mean cremation in the sense of body disposal by cremations done legally to reduce the body to ashes, this only means that the body was burned after death. Criminals think that by burning a body they are destroying evidence, but actual cremation takes hours at sustained temps higher than 1200 degrees.

I didn't know if we should start a thread on this but...

Scott Fairgrieve

The head of the forensic science department at a Canadian university is the newest member to join Casey Anthony's defense team.

Forensic anthropologist Scott Fairgrieve, chair of Forensic Science at Laurentian University in Ontario, will be helping attorney Jose Baez's team as an expert consultant in the search, recovery and analysis of human skeletal remains.

"My role in the case is basically peer review," Fairgrieve told the Orlando Sentinel. "I will be reviewing reports on the evidence. So far everything I've done has been remotely."

The forensic anthropologist said the interest in the case against Casey Anthony has not reached the media frenzy in Canada as it has across the U.S.

Did the defense team not already have someone that does this on their team? Any one know or heard of this guy?

What happened to the illustrious Kathy REichs who was supposed to be on the team. She's no longer good enough for Bozo?

What happened to Kathy Reichs, the other Canadian Forensic Anthropologist/author??

Actually Trac, the family was shot, taken by truck to two different locations, one a mine shaft where they were first dumped and then to another location where they tried first to burn two bodies and when that didn't work, they dug a trench, doused them with acid and then buried them. The two burned bodies were buried where the bone fragments were found which was another area.

Caylee wasn't burned, it is just a coincidence that this is Fairgrieve's specialized research field.

I found one spot - BUT it's possible

What I was getting at - and it was overlooked - that all the chemicals that were taken from the A's house, could they have been on the area that Caylee was found, in the trash bags, and permiated into the bones THAT is why this type of forensic expert was called in

AND since this, as someone else said, is a NEW science - could JB be bringing in this expert because the air samples as the others have stated is also a new science, and they will probably be allowed in - and JB can argue that this new expert's testimony should be allowed in alo

Does that make sense??? LOL

Very good question, Trac. Sounds like you're on to something.

Well I'm from Ontario and I've never heard of him .............

But then we don't televise our trials either lol

Howdy neighbour!

Hi kaRN.......Did you read what he said about TO??? sounds full of himsef.
Now why does that surprise me LOL

Yipes we are coming out of the woodwork today HA HA

There's been no suggestion that any of the other experts have pulled out of the case. IMO, this one's been brought in to review and give an opinion on the consistency/accuracy of all the other expert's analyses and reports, both prosecution and defense. A double-check of the findings.

NP! Hi neighbour! :)
Funny that he has been working with them since OCT. I wonder why all the secrets?

NON of his cases sounded familar to me at all.

Hi bailee :leaf2: Everything surrounding the judicial system, including expert consultants, is a lot quieter up here, eh?

I really can't see his association with cadaver dogs, though, unless he has made that part of his studies, too. I don't think he is the best Canada has to offer, but that's okay. Personally, I don't want Baez to find out who that is.

NP I searched his creds. and could find nothing on cadaver dogs hmmm
I agree with you on "the best" *wink*

Kathy Reichs is not Canadian... she is from N.C. but is commissioned to work in Canada occasionally.

Kathy Reichs isn't Canadian but she is a forensic anthropologist in Quebec, and serves on the National Police Services Advisory Council in Canada.

Not to be argumentative but Laurentian isn't in the same league of Universities as McGill is. A top notch guy would work there or University of Toronto IMO.
I don't trust any of them up here anyway since this happened. See link  He was considered top notch too. Innocent parents went to jail because of this guy and his forensic science.
