GUILTY CO - Bruce, 27, Debra, 26, & Melissa Bennett, 7, murdered, Aurora, 16 Jan 1984 *inmate arrest 2019*

This man truly is one of the most evil, frightening people I've ever read about.
Nevada inmate’s DNA links him to Colorado killings, authorities say

Evidence pics and 911 calls in the Henderson ax handle attack

What on earth does it take for these proven guilty monsters to qualify for the death penalty? He escaped long enough to commit even more unbelievable atrocities. Pure evil cannot be rehabilitated. With murder as an intended outcome, anything is a weapon and anyone is a target. Absolutely unbelievable that he still eats and breaths. IMHO, MOO

Wondering how his cell-mates might treat him now that he has been accused of the brutal sex assault of two little girls?
Anybody going to respond to his date profile now?

Report: Colorado Cold Case May Be Solved After 34 Years Due To DNA Link – Top News

Aurora, Colorado, police have issued arrest warrants for a suspect in a 1984 series of grisly murders.

Police in Aurora, Colorado, have issued arrests warrants for Alexander Christopher Ewing, due to a possible DNA link to the 1984 murder of four people, according to CNN.

The 57-year-old is currently in the custody of the Nevada Department of Corrections on unrelated charges.

The killings started on January 10, 1984. Patricia Smith was found murdered in her Lakewood, Colorado, home. On January 16, Bruce Bennett and his wife, Debra, and their 7-year-old daughter were also found murdered. The slain couple also had a 3-year-old daughter who had been injured, but survived. Both children had been sexually assaulted, according to police, per CNN. All were murdered by a hammer.

Hammer murder suspect says he'll fight extradition to Colorado

October 2, 2018

"KUSA — The Nevada inmate suspected in two brutal 1984 hammer attacks that left four dead told a judge Tuesday that he wants to fight efforts to move him to Colorado to face charges in the two cases.

Alex Christopher Ewing, 57, was in court in Carson City, where Judge James Wilson outlined the multiple charges he’s expected to face – including 10 separate counts of first-degree murder.

“Do you object to being turned over to Colorado authorities?” Judge Wilson asked Ewing during the hearing in Carson City District Court.

“I would like to fight my extradition,” Ewing responded as he sat at a defense table, dressed in a pair of Levi’s and a blue long-sleeved shirt, his wrists shackled to a chain wrapped around his belly.

Ewing was identified earlier this summer as a suspect in the Jan. 10, 1984, rape and murder of Patricia Louise Smith in Lakewood and the killings six days later of Bruce and Debra Bennett and their 7-year-old daughter, Melissa, in Aurora. The couple’s younger daughter, Vanessa, was horribly injured in the incident but survived.

The judge gave Ewing 30 days to file an objection to the effort to extradite him to Colorado and scheduled another hearing on Dec. 4...."

Serial killer bludgeons Lakewood woman with hammer

January 4, 2014

"...On Monday, Jan. 16, 1984, six days after Patricia was murdered, a hammer-wielding killer entered the home of Bruce and Debra Bennett between the hours of midnight and 6 a.m. and murdered the couple and their 7-year-old daughter, Melissa.

They lived at 16387 E. Center Drive in Aurora. A fourth member of the family, a 4-year-old girl, was bludgeoned nearly to death and left for dead.

In the Bennett household, the killer also stabbed his victims and sexually assaulted Debra Bennett and the girls.

Although victims in both cases were sexually assaulted, the killer was primarily motivated by rage, experts have said. He could have brought a gun. Instead, a hammer was his weapon of choice.

“That’s how he got his kicks. That’s just beyond horrendous,” a former Lakewood police homicide detective said.

At the time, police from Lakewood and Aurora speculated that whoever killed Patricia had also murdered the Bennetts...."

Suspect in hammer murders files appeal of judge's ruling that he be sent to Colorado

December 11, 2018

"...On Dec. 3, a judge in Carson City ordered that Ewing be extradited to Colorado to face charges in those two cases.

In his notice of appeal, obtained by 9Wants to Know, Ewing’s attorney, Martin Wiener of Reno, asked the Nevada Supreme Court to overturn Judge James Wilson’s ruling that the suspect was not entitled to an appointed lawyer during the extradition hearing. In addition, Wiener suggested that the extradition documents were not “in order” – a requirement – because they suggest Ewing’s transfer to Colorado would be “temporary” although they also call for him to complete any sentence here before being returned to Nevada...

The appeal was filed in Carson City District Court. As of Tuesday, the appeal had not been forwarded to the Nevada Supreme Court....

Jefferson County prosecutors have formally charged Ewing with four counts of first-degree murder and two counts of committing a crime of violence in the murder of Smith at the Lakewood condominium she shared with her daughter and grandchildren....

Arapahoe County prosecutors have not formally charged Ewing in the Bennett case but have an arrest warrant obtained in 2002 that lists 13 separate charges:

Six counts of first-degree murder – two for each of the victims. One count in each case alleges the killings were carried out with deliberation, the other alleges they were committed as part of another felony.
One count of attempted first-degree murder for the attack on Vanessa Bennett.
Two counts of sexual assault and two counts of sexual assault on a child for the attacks on the girls.
One count of assault.
One count of burglary.

In addition, prosecutors in that case listed five sentencing enhancers – all alleging that Ewing committed a crime of violence...."

Nevada Supreme Court rules man suspected of 1984 Aurora family hammer murders should be extradited sooner - Sentinel Colorado

AURORA | The Nevada Supreme Court on Monday ruled to speed up the extradition of a man accused of murdering three members of an Aurora family with a hammer in 1984.

Nevada’s highest court granted a motion to expedite the extradition of Alex Christopher Ewing, 58, to Colorado to face multiple charges of murder and sexual assault, according to the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s office.
[.....]
Ewing has been fighting his extradition since a Nevada judge last month ruled he should be moved from his current place of incarceration in Nevada to Colorado to face trial.

Monday’s ruling nixes Ewing’s protests. However, Ewing will likely remain in Nevada for several more months, the recent court order indicated.

Ewing and his lawyers now have until April 15 to “file and serve a single opening brief,” according to the order. After that, the court will move forward with the process “as permitted by its docket.”
[.....]
Ewing has been behind bars in Nevada since the summer of 1984 after he escaped there while being transported to Kingman, Arizona, from St. George, Utah, for a court appearance on attempted murder and burglary charges. His sentence runs through 2037 but he would be eligible for parole in 2021.

Suspect in hammer killings seeks more time to fight extradition to Colorado (with clip)

April 11, 2019

"The attorney for Alex Christopher Ewing – the Nevada inmate suspected in brutal 1984 hammer attacks that left four people dead in the Denver area – on Thursday requested more time to fight his extradition to Colorado, 9Wants to Know has learned.

Ewing’s attorney, Martin H. Wiener, asked for a 30-day extension, writing that he needed more time after his sole employee – who handles “all of the office typing” and “other duties” – was injured last week in a car crash. As a result, Wiener said he has been unable to complete research necessary to file his opening brief.

Nevada’s attorney general filed a response less than four hours later opposing the request.

It is not clear how soon a decision will be made on the request....

The Nevada Supreme Court set an expedited schedule for Ewing’s appeal in January, and set next Monday as the deadline for his opening brief.

Thursday, Wiener asked that the deadline be extended until May 11, blaming the car crash involving his employee...."
