Jury question: Mr Cowing where were you when you called MR…..?
( sorry I did not understand the rest of the question )

Cowing : up Middle Mountain by the gravel pit.

Prosecution: not far from recovery sight, correct?

Cowing: correct.

Defense: but you WERE at the gravel pit.

Defense says no signal down in ravine where recovery was, Cowing says it was spotty but Verizon worked.

Sorry if I’m paraphrasing but I think I got the gist.

Mark Redwine trial: Prosecutors point to Dylan's fishing pole as evidence of obfuscation

Mark Redwine told authorities that his son’s fishing rod was missing within hours of 13-year-old Dylan Redwine’s 2012 disappearance in La Plata County, focusing the early search efforts for the boy on the Vallecito Reservoir — well away from the location where Dylan’s remains were eventually found.

Mark Redwine, 59, who is standing trial on charges of second-degree murder and child abuse in Dylan’s death, told investigators he’d searched his house for his son’s fishing rod and couldn’t find it, and suggested Dylan might have wandered off to go fishing.

Later, investigators would comb the property for evidence without finding the fishing rod, according to testimony in the high-profile murder trial, which is well into its third week.

But one month after Dylan’s bones were found in June 2013 — in rugged, wooded terrain on Middle Mountain, nowhere near a fishing spot — Redwine suddenly claimed to have discovered the fishing rod in his garage. He turned it over to investigators, La Plata County sheriff’s Lt. Tom Cowing testified Wednesday.

Dr Kurtzman asked on Direct exam if he has been to the recovery site.

He says when he arrived yesterday he and an investigator went to MR old house. Went up to where bones were found and then where skull was discovered.

Definition: Perimortem. Definition: Perimortem. Perimortem: at or near the time of death; in perimortem injuries, bone damage occurring at or near the time of death, without any evidence of healing. Antemortem: before death; bone damage in antemortem injuries shows evidence of healing.

Afternoon break.

Whew. Witness has been standing by exhibits and using handheld microphone so it is extremely hard to hear every word. I’m watching for for a bona fide news journalist to post a summary and I will post here. Don’t think I can do justice to it and get it all right.

I think Dr. Kurtzman did any excellent job explaining the type of fractures found and how he can tell it happened perimortem, using the example of dropping a ceramic vase.

He also testified that the 2 injuries from a sharp object could not have been made by any animal teeth.

This has to be so traumatic for Dylan’s Mom, CR, MH and all his loved ones.

Thanks for keeping us updated folks with your posts. Seems like the Prosecution will soon be resting given the M.E. is up.

Dr Kurtzman has examined/observed scavenger marks in hundreds of cases since 1983.
Describing differences between cut marks on bone by sharp instruments or a saw.
Mr. Bogan objects saying witness is not an expert in sharp tool analysis.
Judge overruled saying he can speak to COD and MOD .

“Cut marks don’t happen in Nature. Bears don’t carry knives. Birds of prey don’t carry knives”

Who does the defense want to prepare the materials for this witness? Bozo the clown? Sounds like the newest theory is law enforcement framing Mark and not a bear attack.

Judge : how many times have you asked that question?

Bogan : I couldn’t tell you.

Judge: I’m not asking you. I’m saying move on.

Stupid question…

Of course there was an urgency to identify these bones. A 13 year old boy was missing.

What was with the creepy whispering when he asks the witness did they tell you how much blood?

More updates:

New witness: Dr Robert Kurtzman, ME Forensic Pathologist

He is going through his extensive training, quite well educated and experienced in his craft
no way I could keep up with his training, credentials and certifications...

it is going to be hard for the defense to try and make him look bad or mistaken...expert in high altitude death investigations

lots of time discussing cause and manner of death and what a forensic pathologist was...

1st contact I had was with coroner Jan Smith---she indicated remains were found, possibly Dylan Redwine, but I did not have any input at the time---it went to CBI

I learned the femur was crushed to obtain DNA and any evidence was lost that might be found within that bone

several bones, thighs, other femur, small bones were eventually examined by me---no skull yet----but the injuries seemed post mortem

eventually cranium was recovered---looked at map of where various remains were found...and pictures of where they were, and of luminal tests, and the personal effects found

Cause of death---cant honestly say I know exact cause---no organs or soft skin left to test---

but my conclusion, was homicide---given the circumstances :13 yr old, healthy, no preexisting conditions, and blood found in the home, concealed under a rug, the remains found up the mountain, skull so far from rest of remains, the area of recovery , terrain and vegetation, ...

OBJECTION, may I approach the bench for a serious discussion......
