I'm honestly surprised this is the SME (Ha) the defense put forth. IMO

Experienced handlers (that also maintain detailed training records) with well trained dogs who don't do the bare minimum with training & certs (from a bona fide organization), know they will be fighting for their very existence in court one day. IMO

(Good girlie, Molly)

I have to say how impressed I am with the prosecutions ability on cross of a witness, direct and redirect of a witness, and the ability to rephrase questions on objections. Strong litigators in the courtroom imo.
Which is unfortunate for the defense because they are very weak in those abilities. And the comparison between them really stands out. Moran tends to ramble and seem disorganised and kind of stumbles into an important point. lol

duplicate, never mind

The jurors will not look at the science behind the HRD dog alerts. They will use the emotional ties they have with their pets to judge whether HRD dog Molly actual detected the scent of a dead Dylan in MR's house and truck. JMO

I noticed that the prosecution stayed away from asking any questions on why Molly did not alert to the green shirt. It's obvious that she should have done so but didn't.

In my opinion it's a clear sign that Molly was having difficulties in correctly alerting to target odors. JMO

I'm watching this wondering if there are more qualified/experienced experts watching this, either pulling out their hair or screaming at the screen.

I wonder if Ha's phone is blowing up from inquiring Defense attorneys who have a dog in their case. At least he has an easy name to remember, in case he turns up again.
Everytime I see "Ha" it reminds me of one of my favorite movies, Frances Ha.

The Defense fought pretty hard to try and keep out all dog sniffing evidence. Even tried to bring in the Innocence Project. This 39 page brief is pretty interesting.

I agree. Other mammals are much better at picking up scents that we can't. My concern is when it comes to a court of law, etc. I think the residual odor alert is most valuable both in the field and as evidence when it leads to even more, "better"evidence.
Anecdotally, I wouldn't want to make a decision based on a detected residual odor alone. IMO
Oh, I totally agree. If the only evidence against MR was the cadaver hits, then it would not be enough. But I think when you add it all together, the family dysfunction/tension, Dylan's phone going dead so early and his lack of communication w/others, the blood under the carpet, the remains being found on middle mt, Mark's cell pings, Mark's inconsistent stories about the events/timeline, etc...adding all of the above with the cadaver dog hits, makes them seem more credible, IMO.

Since they decided not to call Dr. Danielson I wonder if they have another DNA expert lined up?
I think their next witness might be a tool mark analysis expert.

Pure speculation on my part. JMO Maybe this guy:

https://www.courts.state.co.us/userfiles/file/Court_Probation/06th_Judicial_District/La_Plata/Redwine/D-141 Notice of Endorsement of Expert Witnesses.pdf

I'm not so sure the defense can replace Mr. Danielson for a couple of reasons: It seemed to me during Friday's discussion of the expert witness and his potential testimony that the defense (Moran) already had an agenda in mind of what he specifically wanted the witness to say and/or support.

Moran also knew that the Judge had printed volumes of case history that he was going to read over the weekend. The judge would be very prepared for him!

The prosecutor was already on record that to promote a fair trial, they were in full support of allowing Danielson to serve as the defense's DNA expert as long as he did not cross over from DNA interpretation to DNA analysis (for which the expert was deemed "self- taught").

In other words, no professionally trained, credible expert in DNA analysis would likely be willing to testify as Attorney Moran desired.

IMO, just another example of Moran doing what he's done all through the trial....square peg - round hole... o_O

Before Jury called in Mr Johnson tells Judge that an envelope with cards found by LE in MR truck ( I think work truck) do not need to be admitted as evidence but he doesn’t want Defense to claim they are hiding anything. I believe these are the business-type cards Mark was handing out about Dylan at a vigil that Cory testified to.

Will the notebooks MR had (not sure if they were found in his work truck or workplace) be presented as evidence? (I believe he was writing in them about Dylan IIRC)

Is this witness going to say it was a 'toolmark' or an animal mark on the skull?
Because I dont think he is an animal expert.

If they mentioned them today, I didn’t catch it.
I think they were in his work truck. There was a warrant to search for them in Albuquerque but that’s all I remember.

He cannot exclude environmental because the skull was found outside.

Yes, in his big semi he was driving when arrested. If they hadn’t been admitted yet chances are they won’t be imo.

If I were a Juror I would base my opine of the dogs on what was presented in Court. Not because I am a dog lover. As it should be.

Erich Smith FBI Quantico Expert Witness in Tool Mark analysis cannot determine if marks on skull were made by a man made tool or from environmental factors.

Now on cross Mr Johnson thanks him for his service and is asking about how he can make comparisons if he doesn’t have the tool to compare it to.
