Trial of Mark Redwine in death of son, Dylan, begins

Redwine’s public defender, John Moran, argued during opening statements that Dylan, who did not want to visit his father, ran away from home, and suggested he may have been attacked by a bear or a mountain lion, pointing to what he said was a tooth mark on Dylan’s skull. Moran dismissed that motive as made up by “Facebook vigilantes,” and argued that text messages show Dylan had previously confronted his father about the photographs during a cross-country trip without suffering any harm. The photographs “come from deep within Mark’s private life,” Moran said. Prosecutors won’t be able to prove a connection between Dylan’s death and the photographs, he said. “If the prosecution could find an expert to say people who do that are more likely to kill their child, that information would be given to you,” Moran said, suggesting that no such evidence would be presented.

Johnson said investigators found traces of blood belonging to Dylan in Redwine’s living room, and that a cadaver sniffing dog alerted to the smell of human remains in the back of Redwine’s pickup truck and on the father’s clothing. Johnson also pointed out that Dylan’s body was found without any identifying items, without his wallet or his backpack, which he said does not fit with the theory that Dylan ran away from home. “An animal would have no interest in taking that,” Johnson said. “A stranger would have no interest.” Johnson described a moment on the first night of the search for Dylan when rescue crews were stationed outside Redwine’s house, combing the nearby woods late into the night looking for the boy. At about 11 p.m., all the lights in Redwine’s house went out, Johnson said. “At a time when most people would have been out in the woods with a flashlight, a time when most people would know to leave the light on in case a child was lost in the woods…At 11 p.m., the defendant’s house went dark,” Johnson said. “Dylan was gone.”

John Moran is an idiot. The markings on Dylan's skull were not from a bear or mountain lion. The Anthropologist who studied the skull determined the injuries were consistent with blunt force trauma in two locations. The skull also had two small markings consistent with tool marks from a knife, which were performed not long after the boy had died.

This is all bore out in the indictment.

Besides what about Dylan's blood found in 3 areas of Mark's house? And the cadaver scent in the house, on the washer/dryer, on Mark's clothes, and in his truck bed...

Found Deceased - CO - Dylan Nicholas Redwine, 13, Broomfield, 19 Nov 2012 *father arrested*

6/21/21 Monday, Jury Selection Day 6/Trial begins (Day 1): Attorneys are making their final selections/strikes in jury selection. Jury has been selected. The judge would not allow a media camera. He is only allowing courtroom/fixed camera. Opening statements by prosecutor Johnson with exhibit photos. Redwine’s public defender, John Moran, argued during opening statements that Dylan, who did not want to visit his father, ran away from home, and suggested he may have been attacked by a bear or a mountain lion, pointing to what he said was a tooth mark on Dylan’s skull. Trial continues on 6/22/21.

I think the defense is barking up the wrong tree. They could have created more reasonable doubt, with better scenarios, than suggesting Dylan walked up the mountain trail by himself, very early that morning.

If he wanted to run away, why not go somewhere where he has friends, and safety?

There are witnesses and calls and texts, showing how eager Dylan was to go and see his best friends, who he missed since he moved away. They were waiting for him to arrive that same morning.

It would be understandable and reasonable to think he may have tried to get a ride into town that morning, or even tried to hitch a ride. There were rumours that Dylan and his friends were seen once, sticking out their thumbs for a ride into town, back when Dylan still lived there.

Or even slightly possible that some RSO had heard Dylan was in town, and found him alone that morning.

Those scenarios could explain how he got up that mountain more reasonably, than suggesting that instead of trying to go see his friends, that he missed and that the was enthusiastic about seeing, that he would go for a solo hike, without even telling his friends he wasn't coming to see them.

The defence obviously have a very weak case if this is the best they can come up with after years. IMO

I don’t think anybody is going to believe Dylan woke up that morning and completely ignored his friends and didn’t text his mum. He simply went on a hike without telling a soul and magically ended up in a lotion that Mark could see from his porch after having a early night as he ceased all contact at what 9.30?!

Webex still works also we get to see the TV!
