this is so awful! What poor Gannon went thru! Poor little guy!
And yes! She needs to be in that courtroom!

The medical examiner determined that the gunshot wound and blunt force trauma were the cause of death, Yoder said. Yoder estimated the body was in the suitcase for at least a month.

DA Allen called Kevin Clark to the stand. He was an analyst at the Colorado Springs Police Department during the Gannon Stauch investigation and was asked to work with the El Paso County Sheriff and the FBI on the investigation.

Man, I just have no words. I wish I could take the pain away from his family having to hear this. It breaks MY heart, I cannot imagine their pain.

The affidavit insinuates #GannonStauch was in the trunk of the Tiguan during this trip to the airport. Security cameras captured the Tiguan leaving the Lorson Ranch home around 8:15 AM. It travels westbound, goes north on Powers, and arrives at the airport around 8:20 AM.

Does anyone know if her daughter is there? I would imagine this would be extremely difficult for her to hear and see too. After all, Gannon was her little stepbrother. I feel she's a victim in all of this too.

Clark talks about on January 28th, a neighbor's surveillance shows the Volkswagen Tiguan leaving the home. This was the footage I exclusively shared with you first back in 2020. A car tracker also shows the car heading to the airport after leaving the home at 8:13 am.

Clark says surveillance video shows #leteciastauch going to a car rental kiosk at the airport that morning at 8:41 am. Internet searches from 7:17 look for cheap rental cars in Colorado Springs. She picks up a white Kia Rio.

Clark says she picks up Al in rental car and heads back to their home.

Clark says same day at 7pm, defendant returns rental car to airport, gets in her WV Tiguan.

The judge shouldn’t allow LS to be absent from court! She should be made to participate or plead guilty! This stinks! I’ve never felt such disgust for an individual. She’s not human! Praying for GS family. God be with them. So very sad for what our little guy endured at her hands! Moo

We just made it into the courtroom, I’ll update this thread with big moments from today’s hearing as I get a chance throughout the day. Feel free to ask questions if you have any.

It looks like Stauch will appear today from the El Paso County Jail via WebEx. Members of the public are starting to file in now. All counsel is here, along with Gannon’s mom and dad.

Judge Werner just asked Stauch's court-appointed counsel, Josh Tolini, why she isn't appearing in person, saying that's unusual. Tolini responded saying she doesn't want to be here in person and filed a motion yesterday asking to waive her right to be present in the courtroom.

District Attorney Michael Allen is now asking to waive this hearing, have Stauch enter a "not guilty" plea and set a trial date because she doesn't want to be here for the hearing.

Stauch just left the booth at the jail and will not be present for the rest of the hearing. Stauch's counsel, Tolini, says he doesn't think it's an issue if she isn't present for this hearing, and that she doesn't want to waive the hearing, she just doesn't want to be here.

Judge Werner just decided that the hearing will move forward without Stauch being present. She was adamant that she doesn't want to attend this hearing (not for COVID or medical reasons), but she trusts her counsel and does want this hearing to continue without her.

First witness is now being called: Jason Yoder. He's with the Sheriff's Office from Santa Rosa County, Florida. I've spoken with him before. He was on the scene when Gannon's body was found last year.

Yoder says Florida Department of Transportation workers were working on a bridge in Santa Rosa County, they found a suitcase with a body inside, wrapped in blankets. It appeared to be the body of a small child.

Sydnee Stelle
@SydneeStelle

·

Yoder is now testifying to the fact that the suitcase was found near an emergency pull off by the bridge. The way it was found was consistent with someone dropping the suitcase off the bridge in Florida.

Yoder appeared at the autopsy of the little boy (who was later identified as Gannon). He said Gannon had a fractured skull, gunshot wound in his jaw, sharp force injuries in his chest and back (consistent with stab wounds), cuts (defensive wounds) to his hands and arms.

This isn't from today, but I just wanted to include that Sgt. Yoder has helped maintain the memorial placed where Gannon's body was found. He's gone back to that scene and helped fix the cross and clean up. He told me (prior to today) that this case has had a big impact on him.

Sydnee Stelle
@SydneeStelle

·

They're now showing a crime scene photo. Sgt. Yoder is saying the suitcase was found in a marshy, wetland under the bridge. If someone was driving over the bridge at night, it would not be busy and would be completely dark. It would be hard to tell if there was water underneath.

Sydnee Stelle
@SydneeStelle

·

Sgt. Yoder is now testifying that the cause of death was a gunshot wound and blunt trauma to the head, meaning both injuries happened before he died. The stages of decomposition pointed to Gannon's body being in that suitcase for more than a month.

Prosecution is now questioning their next witness, Kevin Clark. He worked for CSPD during the investigation and assisted the FBI and EPCSO. He has experience with call records, GPS tracking, and Telematix (newer cars track GPS locations and timestamps).

Clark testifies to Letecia Stauch driving to the airport the morning after Gannon was reported missing. She parks her car in a parking lot, gets a rental car, and then picks up Al and heads up with him in the rental car.

Stauch spends about 30 minutes in a parking lot at the corner of Woodmen and McLaughlin road. The area was searched, but nothing of evidentiary value was found. Airplane mode takes a device off a cellular network. Once Stauch got to Falcon, the phone was put in airplane mode.

8:18-8:34 PM: Stauch continued westbound on Woodmen, went north on I-25, and exited onto Colorado Highway 105 (Monument). 8:34-8:46 PM: Stauch travels eastbound on 105 for 11 minutes, then doubles back to go westbound. Out and back trip on 105. Phone is still on airplane.

Cell phone data shows she put her phone into airplane mode at 7:26 pm.
https://twitter.com/fierronicole/status/1435996983869595648?s=21

Location data shows there was 30 minute pause in traveling in the Falcon area while the phone went into airplane mode. Crews ended up searching there and didn't find anything of evidentiary value.

Sgt. Yoder is looking at a copy of the flyer brought to his attention regarding #Gannon. Now, the courtroom is also looking at the flyer. Sgt. Yoder says Gannon's teeth were one of his most identifiable features. Al Stauch has his head in his hand, and appears to be crying.

Now, pictures of the scene where #Gannon was found are being viewed by the court. You can see a black suitcase, and behind the suitcase is a body wrapped in blankets. Al Stauch has not looked up.

Family members are consoling each other during this evidence. If you're traveling this bridge at night, you would not know there's water under it. Sgt. Yoder says it's heavily traveled during the day, but he wouldn't think it is at night.

The impression of where the suitcase fell is around 6-8 feet from where the suitcase is pictured. Bridge inspectors dragged it out from underneath the bridge. Another angle is shown on the screen. You can see the side of #Gannon's head, and he is in the fetal position.

We then see the impression, in a picture taken from the bridge. Then, a picture of a pillow with sharks on it is shown, which was discovered in the suitcase where two projectiles were found. Al Stauch has not looked up.

"Did she (forensic pathologist) make a determination whether or not sharp force injuries would have been fatal?" "She had it as a contributing factor." There was no exit wound for the gunshot wound.

It looked like bullets had entered the pillow, according to Sgt. Yoder. There were no exits of the projectiles from the pillow. As far as the gunshot wound, the coroner said it would have been fatal in itself. She was not able to say if it was pre-mortem or post-mortem.

The blunt force injury to the head, a cracked skull, could have been caused by the fall from the bridge, according to Sgt. Yoder. There were no determinations made about the distance of firing regarding the gunshot wound.

Cross-examination is over. Dave Young steps back up to the podium for a redirect. Dr. Ignacio indicated the cause of death was gunshot wound with blunt-force trauma to the head. Young says that means both would be pre-mortem. #Gannon's mom Landen just walked back inside.

8:57-9:07 PM: Arrows are going all over the place. Stauch is "just driving around" a new housing development, eventually exiting the development between 9:04 and 9:05 PM. Clark says she spent about 15 minutes driving around that area. Cell phone is still in airplane mode.

On the screen, we see a map from the morning of Jan. 28, 2020, showing #LeteciaStauch's VW Tiguan Telematics. That's the day after prosecutors allege Stauch killed #Gannon. It shows the route that the Tiguan took to the airport that morning, where Letecia picked up Al Stauch.

9:19-9:29 PM: A red "X" is seen on the map now, alongside the arrows. Stauch's vehicle traveled this road, and doubled back from northbound to southbound. The area is rural, and pretty dark at night. Plus, it was winter. Cell phone still on airplane mode.

There was a 5-6 minute discrepancy between when #Stauch traveled northbound versus southbound on that road. We'll come back to that in a moment. 9:29-9:47 PM: Defendant leaves Palmer Lake area, travels east on County Line, then merges onto I-25 South, and exits on Briargate.

Prop Letecia up in the courtroom and tape her eyes open so she can't unsee a single item being shown. IMO

Stauch's phone has been off the network at this point for around two hours. When she exits Briargate at 9:51 PM, the phone connects to wifi at the Hilton hotel, and then at Starbucks in the Promenade Shops. The phone is still on airplane, but now it can communicate.
