During cross examination, defense attorney Will Cook approached Bethel with a copy of the DSM-5, which Cook referred to as the "bible" for psychiatrist to diagnose mental disorders, and confirmed with her that she had never read it.

Defense asking about T's demeanor the other 23 hrs. Does it matter????? If she was singing about puppies and unicorns for 23 hours, she gets no credit for those if she assaults a police officer at 75 miles per hour during the next hour.

Besides, it shows how calculating she was. Calm and she was ready to strike.

It reminds me of Bundy's escape attempts. A lot of smiling and placing people at ease and then acting. The jump from the law library, the escape through the ceiling. I'm not saying LS, or Bundy, for that matter, were brilliant in any way. But they were focused and cunning and ruthless.

The point of this being that when Bethel testified she thought Stauch was "sane" it wasn't coming off of information from the DSM-5. Yesterday, Stauch was sitting at the defense table reading the DSM-5 for large portions of the day.

Don't get me wrong, if she has a diagnosable condition, borderline is more likely to be closer to the mark than DID. But there are still millions of folks in the world with borderline, both those managing it and their lives and those whose lives are a hot mess, and they don't kill their children.

Bethel is back on the witness stand testifying saying she believed Letecia was trying to escape, “The fact that she had slipped her handcuffs, assaulted a deputy, then later opened the back door of the van.”

Bethel said Letecia attempted to open the van door with her foot. She said Letecia was resisting arrest, and she was tensing her body and also using her hands to try to manipulate out of the handcuffs.

Bethel said after the incident, when they escorted Letecia to a patrol car, she dropped all her weight which caused Bethel do have a shoulder injury that needed surgical repair later on.

Bethel said Letecia mislead the investigation from the start and continued misleading the investigation until her arrest.

When asked about Letecia appearing to have different personalities or talk in a Spanish accent, Bethel said "no." She then added, “I believe she is sane, and she is manipulative, and very calculated.”

Cross examination for Bethel has begun. Defense attorney Will Cook asked Bethel about Letecia’s behavior during the transport back to Colorado. He’s asking questions like, "She seemed like she was calm and collected? Didn’t switch her personalities?"

Cook then approached the witness stand with a book about mental disorders saying, “This is more or less the Bible for diagnosing psychiatric disorders.” Bethel testified saying she hasn't read the book.


Cook then asked Bethel if she gave her opinion on Letecia’s insanity based on definitions or anything found in the book. She said “no.” That was the end of cross examination for Bethel.

Agree 100%, I have a friend with BPD and she is an excellent mum to her 3 girls. She wouldn't hurt a fly. She does struggle with life in general at times but she is much better at recognising when that is happening as she gets older (she is still only 24)

LS learning how to act for her disorder. Interesting? Goes to show that she has capacity to understand complex things because the DSM-5 is complex and requires an ability to comprehend/discern specific behaviors related to differing disorders.
