GUILTY CO - Remains in 2 suitcases on Denver neighborhood trail, 29 Dec 2020 - Joshua Lockard *arrest*

Or organs...creeping myself out......at the benevolent I'd say medical procedures wherein "remains" weren't disposed of properly
There's mention of a foot being one of the parts, in one of the media extracts above.

Just a comment regarding “body parts” that may or may not apply to this situation.

The medical group I work for has a Fellowship program for doctors who are training for a specialty. The group purchases “body parts” like shoulders, knees, feet and thighs to be used in training. They are shipped to us frozen and stored in large freezers in the basement of the clinic where the training center is located.

So it is possible that someone disposed of assorted body parts that are not related to a murder. Why some would do that, I have no idea. But it is a possibility.

I'm thinking it's a husband murdered by wife. Wife hasn't reported the husband missing yet. A la Melanie McGuire.

I thought these all belonged to “a white male”, has LE said anywhere it might be multiple?

Yeah, I think it's one guy. Murdered and disposed of by wife. MOO.

It’s likely they immediately sort of pieced together the parts and had a number of reasons to believe it was one man, the idea of a serial killer needed to be quashed fast. Moo

Saw this in the news - Wow - I've heard about Mar Lee (it's the 4th neighborhood south of West Colfax Ave) but never drove though that area - only spent a year in Colorado.

To me it doesn't sound like the work of a serial killer, more like an isolated incident, possibly domestic related.

Sometimes I wonder about the influence of elevation upon some people.....

Same. I immediately thought a woman when I heard suitcases and of course Melanie Mcguire.

Hi Mary,

I live at 7,800 feet in Colorado and work in psychiatry so this topic has always interested me. I am attaching a very interesting research paper titled " Living high, feeling low"... It speaks to depression and suicide, which of course is not applicable here, but irritability, which is often present in depression/anxiety, can occasionally also foster agitation, anger, violence...

I have attached the full text by
Brent M Kious et al. published in Harvard Review of Psychiatry (which is reputable publication) Psychiatry. Mar/Apr 2018.

CA - CA-Lucas Horan, 39, Emeryville Marina, 24 Dec 2020

Posting this here only because I posted this thread there and want to close the loop on the two so this thread is made aware of this guy missing from California. The only real link is the fact that he was found near a trail and this guy LH is a long-distance trail runner (a fairly well-known one at that), but we'll know more as this story progresses.

Wow - thank you very much for this! This peer-reviewed paper could very well explain some of the peculiar things I witnessed when I lived in Boulder back in 2005. I like the downtown Denver area, independent cinemas, restaurants, etc. But yeah - I will definitely read this.

Man under investigation for murder after Denver police find human remains in suitcases

[According to the Denver Police Department, 28-year-old Benjamin David Satterthwaite was arrested Friday for investigation of first-degree murder.
...
Police said the victim was a white man. His identity has not been confirmed by the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner. However, DPD believes it knows who he is and that he knew Satterthwaite.]

Wow -- Great LE work!! That didn't take very long, did it, folks!?

Somebody is in a heap o' trouble. And that poor victim...

Impressive, IMO. Now the neighborhood should be able to sleep better! Whew!

In this day and age, I can’t imagine leaving a suitcase out like that and not being caught. There are so many cameras around, even in neighborhoods. Maybe the POI was already in CODIS and that was how they confirmed his identity so quickly.

Why aren't they releasing a mugshot? Is this standard operating procedure for Denver?

Is he a Denver local or was he traveling from out of town? On a ski trip? Visiting family of/with the decedent for the holidays?

Some info I noticed that was missing, and which I have seen on various other inmate listings: his DOB and the current city he lives in. The lack of a few key details is making it harder to try and find info on the suspect.

From what I can find it looks like he’s from Indiana. I wonder what his connection to the victim is and where the victim is from.
