The judge said there may not be a need for the proof evident, presumption great hearing after all. That's when prosecutors would argue there is enough evidence to take the case to trial.

Prosecutors told News5 the reason there may be no need for a preliminary hearing is because a plea deal could be reached.

Warrant issued (6/1/21) & arrested (6/16/21 in Albuquerque, New Mexico & extradited on 6/28/21) & charged (6/17/21) with 1st degree murder. Held without bond.

10/29/21 Update: No preliminary hearing today. One of the prosecution’s main witnesses couldn’t make it & asked for a continuance - and it sounds like a plea deal could be struck between the two sides. Right now, the hearing has been moved to 1/21/22 @ 8:30am, for a half-day.
1/21/22 Update: Next status hearing on 2/22/22 @ 11:30am.

NOW: A status conference for the man accused of killing #JepsyKallungi should be starting soon. Court documents claim #DaneKallungi strangled her and buried her body in #TellerCounty. She has never been found.

Another status conference will be scheduled for #DaneKallungi in a couple of weeks. Looking at March 7. Not a whole lot in today's meeting -- but the language for a #plea deal is working on being finalized.

#UPDATE A Proof Evident Hearing is scheduled for April 15 at 1:30 pm. I spoke with Jepsy’s mom who is in Hong Kong last night, she says she just wants this legal process to be done. She watches every hearing virtually and says it’s exhausting

A quick court hearing just ended in El Paso County for Dane Kallungi. He is accused of killing his wife, Jepsy Amaga Kallungi. She was last seen in March of 2019.

His lawyers requested a proof evident, presumption great hearing on April 15th.

3/7/22 Update: Sounds like a plea deal is still on the table, but a final agreement has not been reached. The Filipino-American Community of Southern Colorado is praying outside the El Paso County Courthouse right now for justice for Jepsy Kallungi. She’s been missing since March of 2019, her husband is in court today for her murder.

COLORADO SPRINGS — Nearly 10 months after the arrest of Dane Kallungi on accusations that he murdered his wife, 26-year-old Jepsy Amaga Kallungi, evidence was presented in a preliminary hearing, including a recording of a phone call between Dane and his ex-wife Alaine where Dane discusses the murder and disappearance of Jepsy.

At the end of the hearing, Judge Jessica Curtis ruled that the trial will move forward on first degree murder charges, rejecting the defense's argument that the evidence presented showed that it wasn't pre-meditated.

Kalungi's next date in court will be his arraignment hearing on Tuesday, May 31 at 1:30 P.M.

At the March 25th court date they played the tape between Dane Kallungi and his ex wife. Dane explained how he killed Jepsy, how she suffered. Then he explained how he wrapped up her body and put it in the trunk and drove his kid to school the next day. Then he explained how he buried her, but not where exactly.

It was very heartbreaking to hear. It was a rough 23 minute tape. Her poor mother had to hear it virtually all the way in HongKong

I'm guessing he is trying to use the location of her body as leverage to get something less than a life sentence.

I think he was just playing with them. JAK's body has never been located or recovered.

During his testimony, the detective went over Kallungi's confession to his ex-wife. Kallungi responded by saying, "everything you said is what happened." The detective said Kallungi looked relieved during his arrest, he even said, "I'm glad you got me."

The detective testified saying that Kallungi initially seemed like he was trying to help police find Jepsy's body, even looking at a map to try and point out where she might be. However, nothing came of that.

Jepsy's body has not been found despite multiple searches on backroads in Teller County.
