Body spotted from air by pilots ID'd as that of Springs woman Family reported her missing last October

The body of a woman found in eastern El Paso County last month is that of a Colorado Springs woman who is believed to be a homicide victim, sheriff's officers said Wednesday.
The woman, Karen D. Aguilera, who had lived at 1551 Chadwick Drive, was 23 years old when she disappeared Sept. 17, 1987. Her body was identified through fingerprint records, Sgt. Gary Brown said.
Aguilera's family had reported her missing last October, Brown said.
The badly decomposed condition of the body prevented medical examiners from pinpointing a cause of death. But detectives are treating the case as a homicide, Brown said.
Aguilera pleaded guilty in November 1986 to one count of selling LSD, and was given four years probation, court records show.
A bench warrant was issued Oct. 13, 1987, after she failed to appear for routine meetings with probation officers.
"Very little is known about Karen at this time, other than she was seen frequently at Acacia Park," said Capt. Ralph Schultz.
The Sheriff's Department asked that anyone with information on Aguilera's death call 520-7155 or Pikes Peak Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.
Aguilera also was arrested by Colorado Springs police in August 1986 on suspicion of prostitution along South Nevada Avenue, court records show. There was no disposition in the case.
Family members declined comment on the death.
The woman's body was found May 10 three-fourths of a mile north of Falcon Highway and 60 yards east of Curtis Road. The pilots, who spotted the body from the air, later walked to it. Authorities said the body had been there at least six months.
