What We Know About The Crime So Far:

Kelsey Berreth was last seen on video shopping at a Safeway grocery store with her 15 month old (Baby K) on Nov 22, 2018-- Thanksgiving Day;
She entered the store at 12:05 PM and exited the store at 12:27 PM.

Patrick Frazee told police he last saw Kelsey Berreth on November 22, when he picked up their daughter (Baby K), making him the last known person to report seeing her alive.

3 days later, on Nov 25th KB’s cell phone sent texts to PF and KB’s employer. That same day KB’s phone pinged for the last time near Gooding, Idaho.

Patrick Frazee was arrested on Dec 21, 2018 on charges of first-degree murder and solicitation to commit first-degree murder.

Investigators believe KB is no longer alive and that she was murdered in her home on Nov 22, 2018.

PF was officially charged on Dec 31, 2018 with 2 counts of 1st degree murder and with 3 counts of solicitation to commit murder. Charges can be viewed here: https://www.courts.state.co.us/userfiles/file/Court_Probation/04th_Judicial_District/Teller/caseofinterest/2018CR330/001/Redacted C&I 18CR330.pdf

Prosecutors filed two murder charges because they have different theories. One is that PF acted alone to kill KB, the other says PF alone or with other people killed KB during a robbery.

The 3 solicitation charges refer to 3 separate incidents-- that may mean PF asked up to 3 individuals to murder KB, OR it may mean he asked the same person on 3 different occasions to murder KB.

The alleged solicitations to murder KB occurred between Sept. 1 and Nov. 1, 2018.

No other individuals have been named as being involved in the solicitation charges yet.

There is forensic evidence in the case that needs to be tested using consumptive testing. Consumptive testing explanation: Consumptive Forensic DNA Testing •

The probable cause affidavit outlining the case against PF has been sealed due to concerns for witness safety and the ongoing investigation. We may get to see the affidavit by Jan 29, 2019 when PF has a preliminary hearing.

KB’s body has not yet been found.

PF remains in police custody without bond.

Hello - I have been lurking around for over a month, but this is my first time posting. I have also never followed a case before, but something about Kelsey’s disappearance just grabbed my attention and now I’m hooked.

One thing that continues to bother me is PF’s motive. I have heard people speculating about custody and/or child support but that is hard for me to believe. I do not know about Colorado custody laws, but in California (where I live) a mother can’t just move with the child. Unless she can prove that she is the primary caregiver (ie father only sees child a few times a month) she has no more “right” to simply pick up and move the baby then the father would. As a matter of fact, since the baby’s routine has already been set in Woodland Park, she would have to get Patrick’s permission to move the baby (based on how things are in CA).

In regards to child support - if both KB and PF continued to share custody (and again KB can’t just make the decision she no longer wants to share, they would need to go to court) the court looks at the income for both parents. Therefore if KB is making more than PF, then he would not owe her child support. She actually may need to pay him if she is making more.

Again, perhaps Colarado is different than California, but my sister went through all of these custody issues with my twin niece/nephew when they were 4. My sister moved 30 min away after the split and she couldn’t even move their preschool to the city she now lived in (without the fathers approval) - she had to commute them there and back during her custody days.

This was a long post (I apologize!) but it just makes me question PF being motivated to murder for custody or child support based on my knowledge of custody and child support rules. MOO

Detective Cup,

Welcome Detective Cup.:):):)
You certainly have provided a great deal of info about custody points.
I wonder if these are similar in Colarado.

From what was posted on WS during Chris Watts case, CO custody is different than CA. If a parent is awarded full custody of the child,
that parent can move whever they wish without having the consent of the other parent.

KB's brother said that she made cinnamon rolls for Thanksgiving breakfast and the remaining ones where on the counter.

In a search of her home, 2 were found that had been left out on the counter/stovetop.

If she used Pillsbury, there are 8 rolls to a can. I can't see KB and Kaylee
eating more than two for breakfast. KB would know that she would be eating later and would save room for the big Thanksgiving dinner meal..

That leaves 4 more rolls that would have been eaten. Who ate those 4 rolls and when?

Granted, she could have just peeled off a few to bake and put the rest in the fridge. Or, she might have gotten cinnamon rolls in a plastic container from Safeway.

Searching her home and finding these rolls out and some missing- I still don’t understand how that proves she made them for breakfast. She still could have made them after trip to grocery store. Or started before and finished after.

If they are homemade, they take time. Need to rise and be punched down and rise again, then rolled out, filled with sugar, cinnamon etc and let rise again. I make these once a year and it takes a few hours.

Possible she told her mom when they spoke that morning that they had them for breakfast? I missed any discussion about that so apologies. Not knowing what time of day she was killed puts the baking in juxtaposition to that. Imo

I just can't see how she'd go to all that work for breakfast when the big Thanksgiving meal is the part that takes so much work. She could have prepared them the day before, I guess.

Maybe she wasn't going to go anywhere for Thanksgiving or have a big meal. A vital clue is what what the recipe she got from her mother
that made her go to Safeway on Thanksgiving?

My initial thought of the way KB's mom described KB's plans
for Thanksgiving day seemed a little "unsure" of what she and
the baby were doing. Was that because LE told mom to keep
it vague to protect the investigation? could be.
As far as we know there were NO definite plans for the holiday.
Sounded to me like KB was waiting to see what PF wanted
to do and where he wanted to spend the day.

Maybe PF alluded to wanting to spend the day w/ KB and baby
and he was vague (maybe go get Xmas tree) intentionally,
because he was already planning her murder for that day.

Or if they were canned rolls, they also come 5 to a can.

Maybe she did bake them from scratch. There are 2 cinnamon roll recipe pins on her Pinterest.

KB's Pinterest is quite heartbreaking, especially ideas for Kaylee's room, home decor and religious affirmations (some definitely sound like she was struggling w/ PF).

That's interesting. Homemade ones are not difficult to make, but ARE time consuming. And well worth it. You're right about wondering what recipe she asked her mom for, though if she had recipes for buns already, perhaps it was something else. Often on holidays, I like to make recipes that have been handed down from my parents/ grandparents. My daughter too, calls me to ask for details for recipes from time to time.

Maybe Kelsey was going somewhere for Thanksgiving dinner and wanted to bring something along. I know we've talked about this before on WS, but it does continue to baffle me.

Although there are many things unanswered, two things were answered IMO in the last couple of days. There was debate over when the police said Kelsey was killed (some say the police say she was killed on the 22 nd, some say the police say she was "probably" killed on the 22 nd. From the official paperwork presented at the December 29 th hearing/arraignment, Kelsey was killed "on or about November 22 nd." Since she was seen in Safeway after 12 noon, I do not understand the confusion here, but there must be some legal reason why they could not say she was killed after noon of 22 nd, which is clearer than "on or about". That would indicate she might have been killed November 21 st. To me, "about" means "almost", although, in looking in the dictionary, about also means "around".

The other thing that might have been cleared up is, did PF have a herd of cows. Since thread #21, post #13 indicates his mom had a cattle ranch 24 km away, that would indicate he or his mom owned cattle. And since Kelsey's mom also stated that PF had cattle, it should be somewhat clearer that PF indeed does have a fair amount of cattle.

Regarding the open mines out here (I couldn't reply to the previous thread after it was closed) I'm thinking that he may have went away from his area & Cripple Creek to Divide Colorado, which sits on the north slope of Pikes Peak on U.S. Highway 24. When you take a ride through Divide on this highway you can literally SEE many old open mines from the road, cut deeply into 'the lay of the land', just sitting there with old wooden boards supposedly closing the openings. It would be very easy to walk or drive up to one and remove the boards.
