CO CO - Kelsie Schelling, 21, pregnant, Pueblo, 4 Feb 2013 *Arrest* #2

Hmm, have to wonder why she hasn't been held in contempt of court or something to that nature.
Reportedly, Martin was taken into custody and transported to Pueblo from Phoenix to testify. Was she in custody because she was charged with contempt?

I don't like her testimony here -- I think she inserted herself in this trial. Bizarre... MOO

LUNCH: Jessica Reeves was the first witness to take the stand today. She says she knew #DontheLucas in middle school, high school, and into college. Texts were read between the two from February 9-12 of 2013.
@KOAA

A text from #Lucas to Reeves very early in the morning on February 10 said "I want to taste you." Earlier in the messages, Reeves had told Lucas she would need things like dates before anything sexual.
@KOAA

Reeves said during the time of these texts, she did not know who #KelsieSchelling was. However, Reeves did get a call from an number she didn't recognize early in the morning on February 5. That call was later determined to have come from #Schelling's phone.
@KOAA

Then, retired Detective Neal Robinson from the
@PuebloPolice1
took the stand. He was the lead detective on #Schelling's case when it was handed over from the Denver Police Department to Pueblo, after her car was located at St. Mary-Corwin on February 14, 2013.
@KOAA

Robinson conducted an on-camera interview with #Lucas on February 12, 2013. It's the fourth timeline #Lucas has given law enforcement, that we've heard so far in court. This one, we got to watch.
@KOAA

Lucas tells Robinson #Schelling came to Pueblo very early in the morning on February 5, and that morning, said the two of them went to Parkview Hospital to essentially confirm #Schelling's pregnancy. Lucas said he waited in the car when Schelling went inside.
@KOAA

We've heard Lucas tell a different Pueblo Police Officer that he did go inside Parkview with #Schelling, and stayed in the waiting room. Parkview has no records of a visit.
@KOAA

The rest of Lucas' account of what happened on the morning of Feb. 5 is pretty consistent with other timelines we've heard so far: the two went to Parkview, then Walmart, argued in #Schelling's car in the parking lot, she kicked Lucas out of the car, and his mom picked him up.

Lucas told Robinson that #Schelling was not his girlfriend, but would not define their relationship as a "hook up." Lucas said Schelling fell for him hard and fast, confessing her love for him on the second time they hung out in college.
@KOAA

When asked about where #Schelling could be in Pueblo, Lucas said "as far as I know, I'm the only person she knows in #Pueblo." Lucas said he knows she has some friends in Denver.
@KOAA

"What do you think happened to her?" asks retired Detective Robinson. Lucas responded by saying he didn't think there was anything wrong, until #Schelling's mom called him. "So now, I'm kind of like, not really sure."
@KOAA

"When you guys argued, would it ever get physical?" Lucas said no, but goes on to say #Schelling had pushed him in the past, but he never put his hands on her.
@KOAA

Lucas also tells Robinson he stayed with #Schelling at her #Denver apartment for around three to four weeks, about a month or so before the interview on February 12, 2013.
@KOAA

Now, we've stopped watching the interview. The prosecution points out that #Lucas didn't explain the need to verify #Schelling's pregnancy at Parkview, when she had just gotten an ultrasound the day before (February 4, 2013).
@KOAA

Right before the lunch break, Robinson said he reviewed #Lucas' text message records, and obtained surveillance footage from a Walmart in Pueblo over February 5 and 6. It sounds like we'll be watching that footage after the break.

Donthe Lucas murder trial resumes

UPDATE: Apologies for any internet issues. I'm currently at a hotel (the weather is supposed to be bad in the morning) and the internet is spotty. Any questions on what I'm saying? Ask away!
I'm reading through my notes from the sixth day of the Donthe Lucas murder trial in Pueblo. He's the man accused of killing 21-year-old Kelsie Schelling in 2013.

Take note it was reported earlier either by C Bordelon fb live or the Pueblo Chieftain, and posted prior to the trial suspended for COVID outbreak, that Kelsie allegedly funded Lucas tuition/living expenses totalling approximately $5ok during the time he lost his scholarship at NEJC and moved to KS to allegedly play ball for Emporia State College.

In the prosecution’s examination of Saxton, she said she believed Schelling was taking out payday-style loans to help pay for Lucas’ college education at Emporia State University in Kansas.

Saxton said she was surprised when Tameler told her Lucas never attended the college, but said she believed Schelling was being deceived by Lucas, rather than that her daughter might be lying to her about the loans.

Donthe Lucas homicide trial begins in Pueblo, Colorado

__________________________

Today's testimony confirms that Lucas never enrolled or attended college in KS. We learned earlier from Kelsie's mom that Kelsie advanced Lucas about $50k during the time he lost his scholarship at NEJC and moved to KS to allegedly attend Emporia State Univ.

Perhaps Lucas was on a beach vacation during this time since we know that he wasn't a student or playing ball. Lucas was a no-show! He didn't even return calls from the coach recruiting him! He didn't need financial help from any school --he had Kelsie to take care of his every need. MOO

Donthe Lucas denies relationship with Kelsie Schelling in 2013 interview

Feb 25, 2021

A Feb. 12, 2013, interview conducted by then-Pueblo Police Det. Neal Robinson with present-day murder trial defendant Donthe Lucas was presented during the first half of Thursday's court proceedings.

The interview was conducted at the request of the Denver Police Department, which was searching for 21-year-old Kelsie Schelling. Her friends and family informed law enforcement at the time Schelling was living on her own in a Denver penthouse her father owned, and was pregnant.

[..]

Robinson testified that during the interview, Lucas informed him that the two were not in a relationship. On the interview recording, Lucas can be heard saying the two are close, and that he did not believe Schelling had any other partners at the time.

[..]

Previously, court testimony in this case showed text messages which the two discussed Schelling possibly finding a job and apartment in Pueblo, so as to facilitate the pregnancy. However, in the 2013 taped interview, Lucas noted the two had argued over whether the 21-year-old was actually pregnant. They had gone to Parkview Medical Center's emergency room to confirm the pregnancy, Lucas said on video.

[..]

Lucas' childhood friend discusses 2013 text messages
The first witness called Thursday by the people was Jessica Reeves, who attended middle school with Lucas and continued to stay in contact through part of Lucas' time in college.

[..]

During the exchange, Lucas told Reeves he would like to "have her for dessert," and he would like to "taste" her. The conversation started the evening of Feb. 9, 2013, five days after Schelling visited Pueblo and was last heard from.

[..]

On Feb. 5, 2013, Reeves testified she received what she assumed to be a wrong call to her cell. Later, law enforcement would inform her the call came from Schelling's phone.

By about Feb. 15, Reeves had begun to see missing persons posters about Schelling, and realized Lucas' possible involvement.

She testified it was then that she withdrew, saying that although it was not abnormal for Lucas to not withhold if he had other partners or girlfriends, she found it odd that he did not mention the events involving Schelling's disappearance.

@BThompsonNews

As promised, surveillance video was show from several different angles at the Walmart, three angles at canon national bank, and one at St Mary Corwin Hospital. We also heard the second, and final interview around this time, that Lucas had with investigators. So here we go:

The Walmart surveillance video completely throws out Lucas's time line he's given to law enforcement up until this time. He's been saying that he and Kelsie got to Walmart around 9-930. Video shows the car parking at 1201 with one person in a red hoodie get out, in all

likelihood Lucas, according to detective Neal Robsinon, who is on the stand taking jurors through the videos. This person is the only one to get out of the car, despite Lucas saying that Kelsie got out to buy chips, then she got back in the car. The car sits in the parking lot

until 7a the next day, despite Lucas saying he got out and Kelsie drove away. Lucas said he never saw Keslie again after he got out of the car, in his telling before 10 am. At 1139, Lucas is seen in surveillance video at Canon National bank taking out $400 for his "cell phone

bill." Robinson testifies that, after slowing down the video, there is no where else in the car with Lucas. Detectives ask where is Kelsie, saying that this already after the time Lucas told them he last saw her. Lucas guesses he picked her up at Parkview, despite no record of

Kelsie ever being admitted or checking in there. Now we're on February 6 at 7 am when a person in grey sweat pants picks up the car from the Walmart parking lot. Can't tell who it is, but they have keys to the car as the orange lights do a quick flash before the person opens the

door. In this second interview, detectives catch Lucas in his previous statements, now that they have texts from Keslie's phone. With those, they know Kelsie got to Pueblo around 10-1030 on Feb 4, not early in the morning on Feb 5 as Lucas had previously claimed. Robinson says

that both Kelsie's and Lucas's phone would ping in similar areas, both consistent with Lucas's pattern of spending days at his mom's home on Toronto place and nights at his Grandma's on Manor Ridge.

After lunch, we watched surveillance footage from February 5-6 of a Walmart parking lot, an ATM at Canon National Bank on February 5, and St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center, where #Schelling’s car stayed from February 7-14, when it was recovered. @KOAA

#Lucas has claimed he and #Schelling went to the Walmart together after Parkview, where Schelling went inside to get snacks and then the two argued in her car, before she kicked him out and his mom picked him up behind the Walmart. Schelling is never seen in the video. @KOAA

Colette Bordelon @ColetteBordelon 9m
Let’s start with Walmart: #Schelling’s car is seen parked in the lot, and one figure in what appears to be a red hoodie gets out of the car, then walks to the back of the Walmart. A silver car is also seen on camera.

#Lucas said he withdrew the money to pay his phone bill. Chronologically, the car is next seen at Walmart around noon. However, #Lucas had previously told law enforcement he and #Schelling were there around 9 that morning. @KOAA

Colette Bordelon @ColetteBordelon 5m
Then, footage from different angles of the Canon National Bank ATM are played. #Schelling’s car goes through the ATM shortly before noon, and her bank shows a $400 withdrawal was made. #Schelling is not seen in the car; #Lucas said she might have still been at Parkview.

He sure stayed close to home. Looks like his world was less then 10 miles. Weird he went to Parkview Hosp. It is way out of the way. Mary Corwin would of been much closer. What was he doing up by Parkview?

He really didn't stray far from manor ridge drive area. That and with the 4hr~ time frame where he is unaccounted for that night makes me wonder how they have never found her body.

The footage from St. Mary-Corwin is much darker. It’s difficult to make out - but we can see a car appearing to park in a lot. The condition of #Schelling’s car while here is important to note - apparently the exterior was dirty at Walmart, but clean at St. Mary-Corwin. @KOAA

Colette Bordelon @ColetteBordelon 1m
However, in the first interview with Robinson, Lucas was not aware of #Schelling having any other “boyfriends” at the time. He did say they weren’t in a relationship, but a prior text from #Lucas had said he wanted to work things out with #Schelling. @KOAA

Colette Bordelon @ColetteBordelon 5m
Robinson: “I mean, she’s having a baby dude.” Lucas: “She says she’s having my baby, but if she is pregnant, there need to be tests to make sure it’s mine... I’m not the only person she’s been with.” I saw Laura Saxton, #Schelling’s mom, shaking her head at this point. @KOAA

Colette Bordelon @ColetteBordelon 7m
They discuss the alleged visit to Parkview, where #Lucas said they went to verify #Schelling’s pregnancy. Robinson asks “Why’d you stay in the car?” Lucas says “I don’t know, I don’t like hospitals man.” A different PPD Officer has testified that #Lucas said he did go inside.

Colette Bordelon @ColetteBordelon 2m
Also - there was a cell phone tower hit on #Lucas’ phone in the direction of the Southside #Landfill, so Robinson went to check it out. Apparently, one of the locks was damaged on Feb. 6 at 5 a.m. We know there’s a landfill expert on the witness list, that @KOAA exclusively has.

The #DontheLucas trial is back on after 2 week break due to #COVID19 . Today, a CBI agent says Jessica Martin, who first intended to find info on Lucas, then fell in love with him. She says Lucas told her a drug dealer killed #KelsieSchelling right after she went missing.
@ABC

Up next for pros are two of #kelsieschelling ‘s last bosses. Also waiting, a prostitute who exchanged text messages with #donthelucas 4 -5 days after she disappeared.

-------------------------

Colette Bordelon
@ColetteBordelon

BREAK: Before the jury entered, the prosecution talked about their witness order briefly. #DontheLucas' mom, Sara Lucas, should testify on Friday. Additionally, we can expect more text message evidence today, and potentially tomorrow. This is the thread to follow:
@KOAA

We also know the texts that should be presented today are between Lucas and Jessica Reeves from February 9, 10, and some on the 12. Prosecution calls these messages romantic; defense objected to admitting one related to oral sex. Reeves could take the stand today.
@KOAA

The prosecution also plans to try and introduce text messages tomorrow from #Lucas' phone that they allege were sent to prostitutes. They believe these are relevant to motive, intent, state of mind, and consciousness of guilt.
@KOAA

The judge says messages during this time in early February of 2013 following #Schelling's disappearance are relevant, but he wants to set a limiting instruction on those.

A limiting instruction, according to Cornell, is instructing the jury "to consider a piece of evidence for a specific purpose and ignore it for any other purpose."
@KOAA

The first witness to take the stand is CBI Agent Kevin Torres. You may remember him as the lead investigator on #Schelling's case, and he's testified once before in this trial already. He's following up on Jessica Martin's testimony, who was the last witness before the break.
View attachment 285881

All sketches are drawn by Mejo Okon, by the way.

Martin is the woman who initially said she wanted to help find #Schelling, but ended up falling in love with #Lucas. Agent Torres says Martin and him made contact twice in 2016 - once that summer, and once in November.
@KOAA

The first contact was regarding a psychic tip Martin said she had, regarding bones at a truck stop. Agent Torres followed up, and it turned out they were animal bones.

Then, when Martin reached out in November of 2016, Agent Torres said she had started communicating with #Lucas on Facebook to try and get information about #Schelling.

Agent Torres said he did not ask Martin to try and gather information from Lucas on behalf of the CBI. He says she was not being used as an informant, and told her to stop contacting Lucas.

But then, Agent Torres talked to Martin in January of 2017, and found out she had not stopped talking to Lucas. That's when she told him the story about "Dominic."
View attachment 285882

Martin claims that in late December 2016, she was at Lucas' house, when a man named Dominic came in and called #Lucas a murdered. According to Martin, he said "you're four years too late."
@KOAA

The defense insinuated that Agent Torres tried to instill fear in Martin regarding Lucas. Then, in January 2017, after admitting she had been intimate with Lucas, Martin moved to Arizona.
@KOAA

Then, according to Agent Torres, Lucas bought a one-way ticket to Arizona in November of 2017. Lucas was charged with #Schelling's murder in December of 2017. Heading back inside the courtroom now.
