DY, of Eaton, was among volunteers who combed Salida Saturday and Sunday, seeking information about his friend and neighbor Nathan Schwartz, 22. DY was on D Street, handing out posters with information about the missing college student. Schwartz was headed to Colorado Springs Feb. 22 but hasn’t been heard from since texting his mother which pinged off a cell tower in the Salida area on Feb. 24.

Nathan Schwartz, of Eaton, was headed to Colorado Springs Feb. 22, to go back to school according to his uncle, Tom Roberts of Greeley.

He texted his mother Feb. 24, and the last ping from his cell phone was Saturday night from Salida.

Schwartz’s car was found late Tuesday afternoon.

Police attempted to locate Schwartz in the immediate neighborhood and were told the car had not been moved for about three days.

Roberts said the family has gotten access to Schwartz’s debit card information and the card has not been active since a gasoline purchase was made last week.

Schwartz is described as 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighing 150-160 pounds with blond hair and blue eyes.

Salida police chief Russ Johnson said the family was concerned about a medical issue that needs to be addressed.

[..]

While they can’t discuss the evidence, Jonathan and Michelle say they, along with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, believe Nathan is alive.

“We have good reason to believe that he was not a lost hiker,” Jonathan said. “And we also have good reason to believe there was no foul play.”

The family is now pleading for his return.

“Nathan, we love you, we miss you. We just want to be in contact with you,” Jonathan said. “We just want to know that you’re safe.”

“We love him,” Michelle said. “If there’s any way he can reach out to us, to just please do so.”

“We want him to know that everything is OK and we want him to know that if life takes a different path for him, that’s okay,” Jonathan said. “But we’re still here to support him.”

I hope Nathan makes contact soon. He seems like a kind, wonderful young man from a loving family. He has his whole life ahead of him, so much to look forward to. Please call your family, Nathan, and take good care of yourself.
