I'm so sorry this became more personal for you, and your brother... More sadness, more strength, more prayers.

Thank you; he just contacted us and did, in fact know her, not just from high school but since then as well. Very sad.

I am an acquaintence of little Noah's aunt through cloth diapering groups. What a handsome little boy. I am tearing up all over again.... :(

It is assumed by some that those statements are based on "mental health issues". However, it was also reported by one of his childhood friends that AL also had either a form of hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy or congenital analgesia - both of which would necessitate almost constant supervision to prevent a potentially life-threatening injury.

Congenital insensitivity to pain - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quoting my own post for separate consideration... I would wager a guess that this could potentially impact is ability to feel hunger or thirst lending to his emaciated appearance in the black & white photo.

I will re word.

From all of the interviews I have seen regarding the killer I did not hear anyone say AN could feel no pain at all.
moo

I did. But don't ask me to link it, it was in one of the stories I read today. He supposedly had a medical condition where he could not feel pain.

Obvious that AL/shooter broke the glass for entry to carry out his evil deeds. Safety Lock on a Glass entryway is an oxymoron. However anyone wanting to get access to school children could do so very easily at the bus stop or playground, etc. The front door buzzer & locks are simply a false sense of security, imo..

What gets me is today during one of the press conferences, the officer was not sure if the glass was broke by the responding units or by AL. I guess, though, that the Newtown PD has not had time to review their own radio logs.

During the presser the Chief did reveal that AL shot out the glass at the front entrance & the responding LE also broke the glass at other locations for entry.

ATF has looked into these statements, and even visited many of the local gun ranges. They have established that Nancy did NOT take her family to any shooting range within CT. This was aired on CNN earlier.

hmmm...
"She was wonderful, beautiful, classy... everyone knew her," says waitress Laurie Champagne. Proprietor Louise Tambascio seconded the words of the local school superintendant that yesterday's reports of Nancy being a teacher at Sandy Hook were wrong. But Nancy was involved with the gun community, she says, belonging to a club and taking her sons shooting."

Media is quoting a lot of misinformation right now. I can say though that Police, and ATF officials believe otherwise.
They have been to several gun ranges and found no evidence of the above.

"You had yourself a very scared young boy who was very nervous around people," said Richard Novia, who was the school district's head of security and adviser to the high school's Tech Club, of which Lanza was a member. He added: "He was a loner."

Novia said Lanza had extreme difficulties relating to fellow students and teachers, as well as a strange bodily condition: "If that boy would've burned himself, he would not have known it or felt it physically."

A “longtime” family friend said Lanza had a condition “where he couldn’t feel pain.”

“A few years ago when he was on the baseball team, everyone had to be careful that he didn’t fall because he could get hurt and not feel it,” said the friend. “Adam had a lot of mental problems.”

During the presser the Chief did reveal that AL shot out the glass at the front entrance & the responding LE also broke the glass at other locations for entry.

Now one of the people transcribing today wrote that he said something different. It was posted that Chief said LE broke windows and the shooter entered forcibly bu that we should not assume he broke the windows to gain access.

I would love to get this clarified since the presser will be the best source for this. TIA if anyone has the exact information.

I keep thinking about the school itself. At this time all I can think, more feeling than anything, is that I would tear it down. :(

Here's the link to the press conference video:

It also includes, at the end, the part about the "altercation" the day before.

Aspergers, Autism, personality disorder, can't feel pain. Surely this guy can't have all these things ?!?!

I just read this. Maybe it's just the way I'm reading it but this sounds odd. Actually, downright weird.

Friends say she was optimistic about Adam's cloudy mental outlook and was even planning on following him to a college when he eventually got himself together and accepted somewhere.

"She had season's tickets to the Red Sox, being from New Hampshire," said Bergquist. "She'd speak lovingly of both Adam and Ryan, but Adam, he was her life. Every time she would speak of Adam, she said he had his medical issues, but she would always lend itself in the positive, about how he was making progress, making friends. She would move with him wherever he went to go to college. I thought he was good to go."

I see some odd inconsistencies in the article regarding the family home. I think the reporter may have dug up courthouse records. Maybe she refinanced in 2011 to take advantage of lower rates. Sometimes that will "appear" as a "purchase" when it really isn't. You have to know what you're looking for as far as the specifics of the transaction recorded in the dockets. Some new stuff here though.

All these videos with security experts showing how to stay safe in schools etc really bother me. It's like these shootings have become so common now that it's just part of the normal design of a school (and the safety drills the kids do) and basically just factored in as a risk, you know, like fire...

That's almost like just accepting that there's nothing that can be done to stop these horrors.

Adding to your links on the disorder:

Congenital insensitivity to pain and congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis (CIPA) are part of a family of disorders called HSAN, which stands for hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy. We'll discuss HSAN more later, but basically, people with an HSAN disorder have trouble perceiving pain and temperature.

People with congenital insensitivity to pain and CIPA have a severe loss of sensory perception. They can feel pressure, but not pain, so they are likely to injure or mutilate themselves without meaning to. They might know they slammed their hand in the door, it just doesn't hurt. This inability to feel physical pain does not extend to emotional pain -- people with CIPA feel emotional pain just like anyone else.

I could have heard it wrong - still on Vicodin for my carpal tunnel surgery last Monday. The impression I got was confusion about how AL got in.

So true, and nobody is mentioning how much TRAINING and PLANNING goes into one of these atrocities! It's not like these people just wake up one day and snap, it's completely premeditated for maximum devastation, and I believe each shooter is trying to out-do the last one or kill the most people in history.

Did killer really have Congenital Anagesia? or was it a condition related to Autism?

congenital analgesia only 40 reported cases... from 1932 - 2001

"The autistic child may also be unresponsive to sensations that their parents find unpleasant, such as extreme heat, cold or pain."

http://www.autism-help.org/comorbid-sensory-problems.htm

"Some persons with autism may also respond in a hyposensitive manner, such as failing to orient when someone calls their name, or engaging in self-injurious behavior without appearing to feel pain."

I am not qualified to discuss this!
