Milan’s mayor, Giuseppe Sala, announced that all schools would be closed from Monday. Universities in both Lombardy and Veneto have also been shuttered until early March.

More evacuees return to France

A new plane repatriating 28 French people and 36 other EU citizens left Wuhan, China, on Friday.

The French evacuees will stay in quarantine in Calvados in Normandy.

This was the third plane sent from Paris to Wuhan, which has been under strict quarantine measures preventing travel for about a month.

Most of the infections have been in Qom. The health minister, Saeed Namaki, urged people to avoid travelling to the city, a major site for Shia pilgrims 75 miles (120km) south of the capital, Tehran.

“The virus came from China to Qom city. A Merchant from Qom who died of the virus used to regularly travel to China ... Flights were suspended between the two countries but he used indirect flights,” Namaki said.

“Obviously we do not recommend trips to Qom or any other holy Shia cities in Iran,” Namaki said on state television.

In Casalpusterlengo, a 10 minute drive from Codogno, locals have lined up outside supermarkets wearing facemasks. Photos have emerged showing them gathering supplies.

Shoppers were made to wait, then allowed to enter in groups of 40 inside the store to stock up on provisions.

“It’s inhuman,” said one man, speaking to AFP, who gave his name as Sante. “Fighting over four sandwiches is just disgusting.”

Another doctor dies from novel coronavirus in Wuhan

From CNN’s Lily Lee in Beijing

Another doctor in the Chinese city of Wuhan has died after being infected with coronavirus, according to the official WeChat account of Wuhan Xiehe Jiangbei Hospital, where the doctor worked in the gastroenterology department.

Xia Sisi, 29, was admitted to the hospital on January 19, and was then transferred to Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University as her conditioned worsened.

“At 6:30 in the early morning of February 23, 2020, she died at Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University after all rescue measures were exhausted. We express our deep condolences to Doctor Xia Sisi's unfortunate passing and condolences to her family,” the hospital said in a statement.
On Thursday, another doctor in Wuhan, 29-year-old Peng Yinhua, also died from the virus. There was national outrage earlier this month when doctor Li Wenliang, who had attempted to raise the alarm about the virus in the early weeks of the outbreak only to be reprimanded by police, died of the disease.

Chinese officials have said that more than 3,000 hospital staff have been infected with the

So big surprise how covid was spreading on the ship. If crew members were infected, and they were preparing food, etc, that would be one of the routes (and I am sure there are several other routes).
Remember Japan let a bunch of people go into general population, after they sat in a quarantined ship (virus incubator) for 14 days.

Italian coronavirus cases surge to 132 as officials struggle to track down patient zero

From CNN’s Livia Borghese and Helena DeMoura

Some 132 people in Italy have been infected with coronavirus, the head of the country’s Civil Protection agency, Angelo Borrelli, announced at a Sunday press conference.

Of those cases, 26 people are in intensive care, two have died and one has recovered, he said.

Italian authorities still have not tracked down the first carrier of coronavirus in the country, he added.

“We still cannot identify patient zero, so it's difficult to forecast possible new cases,” Borrelli said.

Exactly what has been said here about being prepared vs panic buying! Interesting also it seems this topic/thread now seems to be moving more quickly each day?
