Salt Lake County confirms 9 new COVID-19 cases, raising Utah total to 19

“SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake Health Department announced nine new cases of COVID-19 in Salt Lake County Saturday night. That brings the total in Salt Lake County alone to 14 cases.

The Salt Lake Health Department said 11 of those cases are adults over the age of 18 and three are children. Two of the children attended Hunter High School in West Valley City and Entheos Academy, a charter school with campuses in Magna and Kearns, while symptomatic. Both school communities have been notified of the potential exposure to the virus.”
More & more children have it. I hope/wonder if their incubation period is much longer & everyone assumed they would not get it. Moo

Newark Closes Public Schools: 'Not an Impromptu Vacation,' Says Mayor - Insider NJ

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka today made a statement regarding the closing of public schools in his city.

“While the Newark Public Schools are taking precautions in regard to the spread of the Coronavirus by closing schools for the next couple of weeks, we strongly expect for our children to be supervised and indoors, focusing on their school work during this time. This is not an impromptu vacation. This is an opportunity for our city to take an international health emergency seriously and to help protect our city. To date, Newark has no confirmed cases of the Coronavirus, meanwhile, the nation currently has more than 2,100 cases and that number is rapidly increasing.

“Let’s take this time for our children to complete the work packets given by the schools, keep our community safe, and if anyone in your home feels sick then either stay in the house, or seek medical attention by a healthcare provider. Everyone needs to continue practicing safe measures like washing hands for at least 20 seconds and coughing into your sleeve or elbow if you have a cough. We hope that this will resolve quickly, but in the meantime, we have to do what we can to safeguard our community.

Update from China:

All inbound travelers to Beijing will be sent to a mandatory 14-day quarantine at a government-run exhibition hall at their own cost. The city also said it would reject state medical insurance payouts for returning citizens’ virus tests and hospital stays as a way to dissuade overseas Chinese from repatriating.

The steadily tightening restrictions over inbound visitors came at a time when Chinese officials are increasingly sounding the alarm about travelers bringing the disease back to China, which has seen a steep drop in domestic transmission.

Of the 20 new cases national authorities announced on Saturday, four were reported in Hubei while the remaining 16 were travelers arriving from abroad. Other than Hubei, no other Chinese mainland provinces reported new, organic transmissions on Saturday.

According to the DailyMail, the British are considering quarantining
the over 70s for a few months!!!

I guess its to keep them out of hospital, they won't get a doctor if they're ill, they'll get a computer consultation.

Boris is bringing in the army to guard stores and enforce his rules.
Do you know I am losing the will to live in this UK... "Considering' we are in the grip of a real time PANDEMIC, absolutely NOTHING has changed in this country. Everybody knows that the majority of over 70's self isolate on a regular day. I went to the shops yesterday and it did not surprise me one iota that not 1 single person, not 1, had on a face mask. Cashiers were irresponsibly taking cash, handing out change without an ounce of hand sanitizer in sight. At 1 point, I even thought about coughing out loud in the hope that people may have started moving a tad faster to get the queues down but to be fair I doubt anybody would have been alarmed to be in the vicinity of my coughing. The people here seem to think they are invincible and that has always been the attitude here, certainly in England! Boris Johnson failed abysmally in the phase to contain the virus and he is going to fail drastically in this phase to control the virus.. Anybody with half a brain knows that that can only be achieved if the country is locked down.. he has no control over who brings what virus into the country on their arrival. I know it's tough but surely surely, during a pandemic, aaall countries must be on the SAME page of that same book, I honestly believed that once a pandemic was declared, that all leaders had to then comply to some sort of Pandemic Book of Rules from the WHO. This outbreak has exposed the fact that NOT ONE single country on the planet had an inkling of what to do in an outbreak. NOT ONE single country was prepared for a global risk-to-life virus and that is unnacceptable... 3 months in and they're all still fumbling about wondering what the next step should be! . There is no real direction being given from anybody, anywhere. And I'd say the leaders are a joke. But they are not, they're a fu@*#! nightmare! X

“Meanwhile, two immigration officers at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok are reported to be positive for Covid-19.

According to health officials, these officers may have handled the passports of visitors to Thailand, reported Thestar.com.

The officers fell ill on 7 and 8 March respectively and could have come into contact with arriving passengers before they were diagnosed.”

'Extremely Concerned': Possible COVID-19 Transmission From State's Only Fatality

“DENVER (CBS4) — Health officials have determined that the only Coloradan to die from COVID-19 may have exposed scores other seniors who are vulnerable to the virus’s effects.”

:(
I like that the dates/events are listed and I wish every Governor would do so. Michigan had no prob’ listing restaurants & addresses where transmission occurred. I think we have a right to know.

Drive-thru coronavirus testing site closes early, Colorado now at 101 cases

“Drive-up testing for the novel coronavirus in Denver closed early on Saturday because of high volume, as the state announced it has 101 positive cases of the highly contagious respiratory disease.

The drive-thru testing at the Denver Coliseum was supposed to be open until 2 p.m., but health officials cut the line off after 200 cars. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment said it will post next week’s schedule and locations on its website when they are available.”

This driveup testing has been a fiasco since it started moo.

'We are all in this together': Colorado governor expects thousands of COVID-19 cases, urges social distancing
Announces limits to public gatherings, efforts to increase number of medical professionals
Updated: 11:10 PM, Mar 13, 2020

“DENVER – Coloradans should expect either themselves or a friend, family member or someone they know to contact the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in coming weeks but need to make stringent efforts to keep from spreading it to others, particularly people over age 60 and those with weakened immune systems or other underlying medical conditions, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis said Friday.

“We are in the middle of one of the greatest public health disasters of our lifetime, an internationally-declared pandemic by the World Health Organization, and it’s critical for us to take it seriously to protect our most-vulnerable Coloradans and protect the ability of our state’s health care system to treat them and treat others who need treatment,” Polis said.”
