No doubt a lot of people will be experiencing PTSD from this crisis. I already have some of the symptoms.

I see type O is high on the list. The problem is it’s the most common blood type, with IIRC, type A running a very close second. So statistically speaking, there should be more cases with those two blood types.

I think I recall reading somewhere that type AB for some reason may have a better immune system. I’d provide a link but no time at the moment. Maybe someone else could do so to verify this. TIA
I think they’re taking into account how prevalent each blood type is in this report vs. the % of cases. Type O is the most common blood type so it might not look like the % is significantly lower, but based on the actual # of type O people it is. I think AB is the least common so you would expect the % to be lowest, and it is, but based on the number of AB people it’s not a lower risk than type O. That’s how I read it—does that make any sense?

At a wedding service people would be singing so that would mean droplets would be in the air .Singers force more air from their lungs.

Yes - absolutely. And yawning isn't so great either. I'
What's the answer? Should the States not try to gain access to some supplies on their own then? Should the feds not try to procure their own supplies ?

I don't understand the controversy? I am trying to find TP when I go out, which is very rarely, and by online ordering.

And I told my kids to do the same. At some point, one of us will succeed. Luckily we all have a little on hand for now, while we search for future needs.

But there is nothing wrong with all of us trying to gain access to the supply. JMO

Except that it will cause huge disparities in who gets what. The "Feds" have no human constitutuents that aren't living in States. If you think the Feds have ready capacity to figure out who needs what, and where, I have to respectfully disagree (see FEMA articles online). The Feds should be focused on verifying facts and need and giving incentives to bump up production of things, like TEST KITS.

It's not like buying TP, either. TP is actually not essential - test kits are. Hopefully the Feds will realize this - someday. The Executive Branch has charged budget-challenged CDC to handle these issues. Fortunately, they're getting some aid from the military - but those 500,000 test swabs we just purchased from "Italy" (really from China) - where are they now? You will see that only some states will get them - and whether that use is judicious, we don't know. States that have "got their own" - should they still get more?

There's a need for coordination, or else supplies end up (as they currently) are...deployed in the wrong places.

Where's the plan??

Trump, FDA offer dueling signals at coronavirus briefing

"President Trump on Thursday said the federal government would accelerate testing drugs to treat coronavirus, seeking to project optimism amid a massive spike in domestic cases of the virus.

But Trump's remarks about a specific malaria drug he said had shown promise at treating the COVID-19 disease were quickly contradicted by his own Food and Drug Administration (FDA) commissioner, suggesting the president's optimism might have been outrunning the reality on the ground."

Earlier someone posted a link which said that the cruise ship outbreaks came from lowly-paid food handlers preparing all that showy food on the ship. Maybe the same thing happened at the wedding. The caterer may have been less than meticulously clean, or their helpers were. We've all seen the data where the life of the virus is quite long depending on the surface it lands on. A wedding dinner could easily have had plates, bowls, contaminated. Even on Stainless Steel, IIRC, the virus lasts up to 8 hours. Plastic, glass, copper in the same range, up to 6-8 hours.

The following study refers to "days", assuming it acts like already studied earlier corona viruses. I'm not at all surprised that clusters are turning up. If a whole wedding party got food poisoning from old mayo or bad shrimp, no one would be surprised.

Warning there is a lot of variability in these estimates according to the source, but the ones I've come across all say = long time. Here’s how long the coronavirus will last on surfaces, and how to disinfect those surfaces. | Live Science

This is not a silly concern.

In California they banned the lightweight plastic bags and grocery stores started selling the heavy duty plastic bags. These heavy weight bags are certainly reusable; in fact they are nearly indestructible! I am always thinking of our environment as I drown in plastic. So, sure, I reuse those heavy weight bags 10-20 times. I often wash them, but now I will have to disinfect them because they're plastic which holds the virus long. Gee, clerks are exposed to all kinds and people's ideas of reusable bags. Clerks often pack the bags too.

Would it be better to use fabric bags?

Here’s how long the coronavirus will last on surfaces, and how to disinfect those surfaces. | Live Science

No ‘shelter-in-place’ order for now, Oregon Gov. Kate Brown says
Updated 1:18 PM; Today 10:45 AM

“Oregon Gov. Kate Brown does not currently plan to issue a statewide order for people to shelter in place to slow the spread of coronavirus, she told reporters in a call Thursday morning.

But similar to Portland officials, Brown is planning for the eventuality that the state might need to take that additional step. A shelter-in-place order would mean people could only leave their homes for essential activities such as going to the grocery store or seeking medical attention.”

Ty.

That always feels so good,
Exhale,
the things I've seen and learned,
because of this virus,
online and in RL.

I learned (perhaps here?) the difference between 90% and 70% rubbing alcohol, with which my podiatrist was very impressed when I showed up yesterday, so thanks to that intrepid poster.

(For the record, the mystery is that 90% is good for cleaning soft stuff - clothes, stuffed animals, etc. - and the 70% is good for hard surfaces.)

Also, while it may be pricey, my local Whole Foods had lots o'food, and was not hurting for anything; so if you are in a pinch.

Someone on the KrazyCouponLady blog posted that they'd gotten a large haul at "Big Lots", which included lots of water and some spray Lysol, at minimum.

Another USS Boxer sailor and a Miramar Marine latest to test positive for COVID-19
MARCH 18, 2020 2:11 PM

“Military members assigned to the amphibious assault ship Boxer and Marine Corps Air Station Miramar are the latest in San Diego County to test positive for COVID-19, officials said Wednesday.

As of Wednesday afternoon, nine area service members have tested positive, military officials say.”

[..]

“Second sailor on San Diego-based warship Boxer tests positive for COVID-19
A second sailor on board the amphibious assault ship Boxer tested positive for COVID-19, the Navy announced in a statement Wednesday. Another sailor on the ship tested positive over the weekend.

Propublica reported Monday that after the first sailor tested positive, the ship’s leaders held a close-quarters meeting with dozens of senior enlisted sailors and officers in one room.

The ship has a crew of about 1,200 sailors.“

ETA:

Please don’t be the ship that keeps on giving like the DP.

If there’s anything we’ve learned is everyone needs to get off that ship.

Rotate a new ship in, all new sailors moo. Extract each current sailor in non-home quarantine and medical care. Get them off now or it could turn out to be a another DP. Moo.

Also, the fecal/oral possibility, idk if any cases are known to be from F/O but it can happen. As I’ve posted previously, in KY, we had numerous restaurants shut down including entire food courts, due to F/O transmission of hepatitis. Moo
The fecal information really surprised me, because I had read elsewhere that stomach acid will kill the virus. Now I don't know what to think.

I will say this much, zero bailout for cruise lines. If the ship is registered with United States, okay.

But all of the cruise lines register their ships in other countries to evade United States laws and regulations. No cruise line bailouts.
Thanks for that info.. good to know. We must be very very careful to analyze these corporate bailouts. The motives may not be in the best interests of the American people. No buybacks, no executive packages or pay... only bail outs to keep employees and infrastructure stable in this next 6 months. Maybe more.

CA - San Jose PD Reserve Officer Tests Positive and Could have impacted 20 others:

SJPD Reserve Officer Tests Positive for Novel Coronavirus

As of Tuesday evening, Santa Clara County public health officials have confirmed 175 cases of the virus, including multiple San Jose Fire Department personnel and Transportation Security Administration officers at Mineta San Jose International Airport.

So far, six county residents have died due to the virus.

Ah - well, there's part of the explanation for how Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties became CoVid-pumps.

I wonder if he was symptomatic.

I'm gonna need more puzzles, more videos (not streaming, don't want to shut the internet down), probably more wine.

And I keep thinking about that garage freezer for frozen pizzas and ice cream....

My husband insisted on us buying LP's and DVD's, for ages. I continued argued against it (too hard). Ha.

We're in our 4th day of Grateful Dead concert albums - combined with some streaming from Amazon when it works. Otherwise, we've got a great screen saver on the TV and plenty of rock and roll.

Wine is great, but as it is my birthday weekend, I'm drinking gin and tonic (the quinine you know).

What'd he say? Are you saying he's announcing they work too quickly. Yes, there's testing going on for those drugs, but no conclusion yet.

That is fantastic. It is a glimmer of hope anyways.
If you already use it then you are lucky. But I am so afraid that people are going to go crazy with their doctors to get it... Should have been presented by medical professionals, or not at all yet...it is going to be crazy misinformation.

Just heard that the President is making available immediately anti malaria drugs. It may not work. But he's hopeful it does.

Who is our member that has been taking this?

I take it daily and have for years for RA.
