If you live in these two states, you’re now required to wear a mask when you leave your home — BGR

“Two states in particular — Maine and Massachusetts — recently implemented more expansive mask-wearing guidelines that now mandate people wear masks at all times when in public. While previous mask-wearing guidelines encouraged people to wear masks in public when social distancing wasn’t an option, the new guidelines require masks in public even when there’s no one within six feet.”

And, in the words of Kool and the Gang, which I was blasting earlier on my deck and my whole street was jamming to and cheering, “It’s time to come together....it’s up to you, what’s your pleasure...
Everyone around the world C’MON!“

(I was dancing and cheering and someone took a picture to mark the occasion lol and I’m hoping it doesn’t get posted on social media because I’m wearing socks and sandals, have hairy legs and god awful capri pajamas on and my hair is sticking up :D)

TIME TO START HEALING AND MOVE FORWARD WITH AN ACTUAL COVID PLAN. PTL.

I’m very excited and curious to see on Monday who will be on the new Covid Task Force.

I know. I am not sure what the reasoning was behind that. My daughter was so miserable. She couldn't sleep. Her ribs hurt from coughing so much. She was alternatively hot and chilled.

Well, no one ever died from a hot Toddy, I told her what to make, and she slept well. Is Covid going back to "Grandma's cures"? Are doctors afraid to prescribe anything? I don't get it.

Classic Hot Toddy Recipe - Cookie and Kate

Best with Jameson, but I am partial to Irish whiskey.

I don't get it either. It seems like they should have given her something. What good is getting diagnosed if no one treats you?

I think it is important to attach fines to non-mask wearing.

If we don't wear a seatbelt, we can be fined. If we litter, we can be fined.

Along with PSAs, fines can be very encouraging.

In the US, seatbelt laws (and fines) can only be implemented at the state level. We do have a federal seatbelt law, but that concerns automakers and requires them to install seatbelts in their vehicles. Not individual citizens.

If Biden's team is smart, they'll put together a plan for educating and strongly suggesting that states implement mask laws (and fines), but I really don't think the US Constitution will allow the federal government to implement a national mask mandate.

They might try - but it's likely to be immediately challenged in court and an injunction handed down until SCOTUS can decide. There are legal experts weighing in on both sides of the issue right now.

I'm still a fan of a widespread national educational campaign that appeals to heart and minds.

I don't know. It just seems like everyone gets a different experience with this disease.

We initially had SO many media articles showing people on ventilators. You would open up some info about covid, and there would be a graphic pic of a person on (or being put on) a ventilator along with the covid info. It was impossible not to see the complete and scary tragedy of it.

Our culture tends to be very in-your-face about these things. Our car accident PSAs are pretty confronting too.

Eg:
https://www.smh.com.au/politics/fed...-elective-surgery-reboot-20200511-p54rwg.html
Australia has 'more than sufficient' ventilators, says Deputy CMO

I sincerely believe this is the way to get the idea across in the US. Why this virus has become such a point of contention is beyond me, but people need to see what can happen to their loved ones.

I do know that some people who have been diagnosed in my community have been sent home, but I don't think they were coughing that badly nor running high fevers.

I'm glad you shared the hot toddy recipe. It sounds like it gave her a bit of relief.

The restrictions are scheduled to expire on the 25th which is the day before Thanksgiving.

So people will still gather with family indoors for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Go visit someone in a care facility.
Attend an indoor church event.

That seems counterproductive. If they flatten the curve before then, allowing big family dinners could just get it going again.

My daughter asked what we were planning for Thanksgiving this year, and I told her "nothing."

She seemed stunned, as if it was sacrilegious not to get the family all together as we've done every year since she was a little girl. She's going to try to put together some sort of Zoom holiday. Secretly, I'm kind of excited not to have to cook all morning!

A family member in another state asked what we were doing for Thanksgiving and I replied “hoping to avoid Covid”.
She thought I was being humorous.
I wasn’t.
