From whom, instead of Fauci, are you getting your advice and information? Now that covid has been around for a year, there is a pretty consistent message about covid from all scientific and medical sources. Is there another epidemiologist that you heed?
That's a good question. Maybe it's my nature due to the work I do, but I tend to research most statements rather than taking them at face value. When a doctor, epidemiologist, or anyone else makes a claim, I typically try to hunt down the original source, whether that be a peer-reviewed study on PubMed or a private webcast.
Currently, I find releases from the CDC to be among the ones I feel are the most accurate, because they're open to change when new science comes along. I tend to give less credibility to individual doctors or others who are (honestly) relating their own experiences, because they're often not backed by controlled studies.
But, I don't completely discount individual accounts because I remember learning about a time when the "state" silenced a man for his research. That man said the earth was round, not flat, and it created a world of trouble for him with the government--to the point where he had to retract his scientific theory.
There's no one person I follow. I listen to many and I do my own research. I tend to develop strong dislikes and cynicism when I think someone has an agenda.
