From whom, instead of Fauci, are you getting your advice and information? Now that covid has been around for a year, there is a pretty consistent message about covid from all scientific and medical sources. Is there another epidemiologist that you heed?

That's a good question. Maybe it's my nature due to the work I do, but I tend to research most statements rather than taking them at face value. When a doctor, epidemiologist, or anyone else makes a claim, I typically try to hunt down the original source, whether that be a peer-reviewed study on PubMed or a private webcast.

Currently, I find releases from the CDC to be among the ones I feel are the most accurate, because they're open to change when new science comes along. I tend to give less credibility to individual doctors or others who are (honestly) relating their own experiences, because they're often not backed by controlled studies.

But, I don't completely discount individual accounts because I remember learning about a time when the "state" silenced a man for his research. That man said the earth was round, not flat, and it created a world of trouble for him with the government--to the point where he had to retract his scientific theory.

There's no one person I follow. I listen to many and I do my own research. I tend to develop strong dislikes and cynicism when I think someone has an agenda.

Had to go in to see my Primary Care doctor this past week. He told me he got Covid two weeks after his first vaccine. His wife did too. Hearing more and more of this. I wonder if people just let their guard down more after they get the jab.

He said he probably got it playing hockey at the indoor ice rink, he wasn't masked in the locker room or when he was on the ice of course. He said their were alot of unmasked players in the locker room.

Makes a person wonder how he got to be a doctor!

Locker room, sheesh.

Watching hearing.

I'm seeing folks that are not wearing masks on the bridge or their noses, but down low where it doesn't protect. I think many folks think wearing this way are not educated as to how to wear a mask... and think they are wearing correctly.

We see here so many folks saying "I wore mask"... etc etc and it spread... but if they are wearing as shown below, NO! WRONG!

More education is needed as many folks don't understand there must be 100% against skin and not an opening when they wear them low.

It amazes me that folks don't understand how to correctly wear masks but I see it so so so commonly. How do we educate folks to SEAL off at bridge of nose etc.

This is too common MOO for folks.

Are they ignorant? Rebelling?

Screenshots are from live Senate hearing..

I agree- too many people don't have the mask over their nose-- I never say anything but it is really a risk to all of us
Makes a person wonder how he got to be a doctor!

Locker room, sheesh.

Good grief!! you just have to shake your head in wonderment as to what kind of doctor, with an education, could be so foolish and reckless

Gee- I wonder how he contracted the virus-- playing ice hockey unmasked couldn't do it, could it???? DUH

Pharmacists say 'heartbreaking' waste of Covid vaccines has a simple solution

Vials of COVID-19 vaccine are sorted at a Pfizer facility in Belgium

Some pharmacists say a simple solution could get thousands more people vaccinated each week, but the Food and Drug Administration is standing in the way.

It's called "pooling" — and it's not a new concept. Pharmacists have been doing it for years with everything from flu vaccines to some chemotherapy medications to antibiotics. It involves taking what's left over in a drug vial and combining it with what's left in another vial to create a full dose.

"It doesn't look like a lot at the bottom of the bottle," said Dr. Stephen Jones, CEO of Inova Health System, based in Falls Church, Virginia. "But ultimately, in aggregate, that adds up to a lot of doses that end up being wasted, and we're not allowed to use that additional vaccine. But there are times where there's almost a full dose at the end of the vial, which is heartbreaking to let that go to waste."

NOW:
@WhiteHouse
Covid response coordinator
@JeffZients
says federal gov't will deliver 25m "high-quality, American-made" masks to food banks, community health centers, etc for distribution free of charge.

I knew it! LOL...gotta laugh, because what else can you do? So, we all got vaccinated today with our first shot (I live in an Independent
Senior Living community) ...went down to pick up a package and in our game room there sits 6 ladies with NO masks on right next to each other playing cards - actually crammed around the card table- while staff just wanders around oblivious. I knew this was going to happen. Hopefully we stay lucky here under these circumstances!
One lady went in to hug one of the directors saying "now we can hug again" and the director was like "oh noooo....not until two weeks after your second shot".
Do people just not know better? Do they think that today we are 100 % protected and life goes back to normal?

This happened back in August but the report just came out today: (bbm & sbm)

A Chicago gym saw dozens of COVID-19 cases after infected people attended HIIT classes without masks (yahoo.com)

  • In one week in August, 55 who attended exercise classes at a Chicago gym contracted COVID-19.

  • Less than a quarter of gym-goers wore masks during their workouts, and almost none socially distanced.

  • The gym had precautions like temperature checks, but some people went to class with symptoms anyway.
    [snip]

Still, 22 people who attended had symptoms the same day they went to work out, including fever, cough, headaches, and loss of smell and taste.

Three people went to class who tested positive for COVID-19 that day or before.

Nurses have done this for YEARS with non- narcotic injectable medications. I don't get the emphasis on pharmacists when nurses are usually the people to open a vial and administer the medication concurrently. I know of few pharmacists who administer drugs, and no RNs who will administer a syringe of something prepared by another person.
( Exception might be labeled small dose of chemotherapy medication compounded on site).

Let's take a common injectable medication given for nausea that comes in a vial. The dosage can either be half the vial or the entire vial, depending on the doctor's orders. When it's half the vial, we dated and initialed the remaining half, and placed in in a drawer in the med. room called the " Stock room". If we had a new admission who needed that particular nausea medication " Stat", we'd immediately go to the stock supply for their first dose. The only part to be super vigilant about is using non- expired medication that has been stored correctly.

I see no ethical or practical problems with conserving the vaccine while the supply is low, but when it's not low, everyone should get a fresh vial of vaccine just for their use.

I’m not sure they are being told. I think everyone who gets the vaccine should be firmly educated both verbally and in writing about the fact that that they still need to take the same precautions until further notice...even after their second dose. I don’t know if that’s happening and I’ll be interested to see what is said when we get our vaccinations in late April (because of having Covid and the monoclonal antibody treatment and having to wait 90 days). If nothing is said, I will ask why.

I wanna know the Paul Harvey... did no one talk to the Director to enforce standards? As visitors may be limited, it may be up to staff or residents to do such. I hope this is nipped in the bud!

Another gym transmission this time by an instructor who taught two fitness classes at two different gyms, instuctor also passed on Covid to another fitness instructor who taught a class at the third facility and passed on Covid to that class! happened in Jun-July, report released today: (the full report is very interesting regarding mask usage and non mask usage and who was infected)
Community Transmission of SARS-CoV-2 at Three Fitness Facilities — Hawaii, June–July 20

Twenty-one COVID-19 cases were linked to an index case in a fitness instructor.

An interesting tidbit in report:

4 hours before symptom onset, instructor A taught a 1-hour stationary cycling class with 10 participants at facility All 10 participants received positive SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR test

Staff will not enforce mask usage. They say wearing masks is mandatory in common areas and you will be sent up to your apartment to go and get it if you do not have one on, but this is all idle talk, they don't do it.
Staff are some of the worst offenders here. It is by sheer luck we have not had an outbreak. We have had in the past 3 staff positive with Covid and one resident, all recovered.

If possible, buy a few boxes of masks and put them in the common area or areas. No one has to go upstairs or move very far at all to get a mask, and you are protecting yourself more as well. JMO, of course. :)

"Best" is not always the same as " fair".

I think if people are not wearing masks now, it is because they don't want to and will not because people who should know better discouraged it and mocked people for wearing them.

In my corner of the world, doing the right thing the right way encourages others who see it to do the same.
Maybe it's different where you live, but the average person is sensitive to peer pressure, including positive peer pressure.
