This investigation led to the identification of Fairfield County Jane Doe, who is now known to be Barbara Heyward Manners. Barbara was born June 9, 1951 and was 33 years old when she was murdered. After nearly four decades, Barbara's remains will be returned to her family for her final internment

Seems like she was originally from NYC.

I’ve tried finding Lamika’s birth record but i’ve come up blank. NamUs knows her birth date but they don’t give out that information. I’ve searched ancestry using both “Lamika Manners” and “Lamika Heyward” but nothing. I’ve only found the records for her mother and the man she married in 1975. Nothing else though

Great news that she was identified! I wonder if identifying her will help LE figure out who did it, which could provide leads for Bridgeport Jane Doe. These 2 crimes have such similar MOs, and Westport is close to Bridgeport...I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same killer.

@CarlK90245 This thread can be updated to "identified."

@othram I’m fairly new to the world of genetic genealogy, so apologies if this is a silly question. But since Barbara was identified via DNA, does this mean that you would you have been alerted to any familial matches in NAMUS? Or does it not work that way?

I only ask because her 12 year old daughter was missing too. Barbara was from NY but found in CT. Perhaps her daughter is a Jane Doe too. maybe in NY, CT, or another state altogether.

This is one of those cases where the identification of a Jane Doe, is not the end, but rather the beginning of a deeper investigation.
Quoting my post from the othram solves thread.
