Why does the Casey Anthony case continue to generate such interest?
We keep writing about it, because the case keeps producing stories. A prediction: You’ll hear a lot more in 2012.
But Casey Anthony isn’t saying a lot, evidently, unless she is paid. How valuable would her latest take be? Her version of events has gone through striking revisions. As Judge Stan Strickland so memorably said, “The truth and Miss Anthony are strangers.”
We can also add that responsibility and Miss Anthony are strangers. She doesn’t take responsibility, unless forced to. Remember her apology to Amy Huizenga for writing bad checks?
So what would be the point of interviewing Casey Anthony, who was convicted of lying to law enforcement? And wouldn’t she lose her mystery if she started talking?
The Caylee side of the story, however, endures. She was discarded, but she’ll never be forgotten.

In a TLC special tonight, Dr. Jan Garavaglia blasted the defense’s criticism of her work in the Casey Anthony case.
Garavaglia, the chief medical examiner for Orange and Osceola counties, ripped Dr. Werner Spitz’s complaint that she had conducted a “shoddy” autopsy on toddler Caylee Anthony.
The special, “Dr. G: Inside the Caylee Anthony Case,” noted that the child’s skull fell apart when defense expert Spitz opened it.
“He broke it. He caused a fracture and it fell it apart, and then he has the nerve to call my work shoddy?” Garavaglia asked incredulously.
During the trial, defense attorney Jose Baez complained that Garavaglia’s conclusions were not science.

“The conclusions were scientifically defensible,” Garavaglia responded to Baez in the special. “That is not a principle that I make up. It’s not because this was a high-profile case that I wanted to do a thorough job. This was a 2-year-old little girl that was found in the woods.”

“The only thing I’m an expert on is how people react to death,” Garavaglia said. “I see every accidental death. I see every child that dies suddenly and unexpectedly, and I talk to the mothers. She did not respond like any mother I’ve ever talked to. In fact, if you’re saying this was an accident, it’s an insult to every mother whose child died accidentally. She acts … as if she’s guilty.”

Reports of alleged Casey Anthony video diary surface on Facebook

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — It appears that Casey Anthony is speaking out on a video diary for the first time since her acquittal.
A video just surfaced on the Facebook page titled Caylee-Anthony Countdown to Justice.
A woman who appears to be Casey Anthony talks about her life on probation during the four minute video.

J. Cheney Mason said the video's release was 'unauthorized' and Anthony didn't put it online
But in lieu of the video diary surfacing, Fernandez-Gonzalez's attorneys said Thursday they will renew their motion to have Anthony testify.

"This video is a preview of everything we predicted she would do in court — speak when it's for profit. She has gamed the system," said lawyer John Morgan.

"Justice moves slowly sometimes, but we remain vigilant. I guess her objection to filing her deposition with the court for safety concerns due to the disclosure of her appearance was a sham upon the court. I don't think this well-respected and thoughtful judge will be happy or amused."

Ablow puts in his two cents.

Quote:
The YouTube video released by Casey Anthony gives me additional confidence that my insights into her, psychologically, have been accurate. Most notable about Ms. Anthony’s statements is the one in which she speaks of finally owning something she need not give back to anyone—a computer, a camera and a cell phone.

These, of course, were the treasured possessions through which she interacted with others before her murder trial. Casey Anthony used MySpace and Facebook as ways to present a false self—a synthesized, sterile “profile”—to her friends and lovers.

"What was the release of a Casey Anthony video this week? A bad business move, at least, TV commentators agreed this morning.

“People are not going to buy anything. They are not going to buy her book,” Robin Roberts said on “Good Morning America.” “They don’t want to see her movie. They don’t want to see her on ‘Good Morning America.’ ”

So I guess we won’t see her in an interview on “GMA.” But the Anthony video was the top story in the 7:30 a.m. half-hour on “GMA” and “Today.”

HLN ’s Vinnie Politan has some succinct advice for Casey Anthony and her handlers.

“Give up on selling your story,” he told me today. “No legitimate organization will come out for you to pay anything. She’s toxic.”

Politan predicts the public backlash against Anthony won’t die down, as evidenced by the reaction to an Anthony video diary that spread across the Internet on Thursday.

“We’re in a new era with social media. Word spreads quickly,” Politan says. “If there’s a rumor that a legitimate news organization will give Casey Antony 50 cents, they [viewers and readers] will be all over it. It’s not worth it. If she wants to tell her story, she’ll have to do it for free.”
