Enroute from Paris to Cairo, 65 passengers and 10 crew. Missing from 37,000 feet. It's an hour and a half overdue.

    Radar lost over water.

Very new reports. No speculation yet if related to weather, terrorism, mechanical failure, etc.

    Airbus A320.

KZ note-- very small number of passengers for this aircraft. I think this might be less than half full.

Flight should have been 3 hours 45 min. Missing within the last hour of flight.

    Watching CNN

Another Airbus A320... No bad weather in the area.
Disappeared off radar within 10 miles after entering Egyptian Air space...
Likely down in the Mediterranean if anywhere.

"Egypt Air cited an official source saying the airline lost contact with the flight at 2:45 a.m. Cairo time. According to the airline, the plane was on the rise and disappeared before entering Egyptian airspace by 80 miles, or 10 minutes."

Why would the plane be "on the rise" at that point in the flight?

Reports vary on how close the plane was to Egyptian airspace, but indications are it disappeared from radar over the Mediterranean. (Flightpath24.com)

It wouldn't be, it would be starting descent unless it needed to rise for another reason.

My biggest fear is when flying over the ocean.Things keep happening right before we have to fly again, leaving soon for Brussels and returning from Charles de Gaulle. This does not sound good,Egypt is a dangerous place and many Europeans are on holiday right now.

I flew out of CDG a few months ago, before the Paris attacks. Security was tight, especially concerning size of carry on bags.

I have to wonder "why" this aircraft only has 69 people onboard. I fly a lot, and haven't been on a half empty aircraft for years.

A poster on the Missy Bevers thread just posted it so this is the first I have heard about it and I haven't read anywhere but here, yet. I hate to say but Egypt Air and a potential high number of French passengers instantly made me think terrorism. I hope I am wrong.

Someone on the MB thread posted PPRUNE is a good source, also http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/general_aviation/

    Hi dotr!

Rescue at location of last known communication right now MSNBC. Sun coming up now

I kind of think they may have been trying to avoid weather? I am hearing ascending - Clear AIr Turblance? Just brainstorming with little we know. They went through some weather, think Air France (where the sensors ice over and the auto pilot starts giving them messed up info)

Per Sky news search and rescue launched. Greek air traffic control lost it before the handover. Just telling us that the radar just lost flight per . New York Times. They are carfully wording it as an explosion, - basing it on the way the aircraft just instantly vanished from radar. MSNBC is starting to talk catastrophic in air explosion.

Msnbc saying Egypt military continued to track plane after it dropped of commerical radar? Its a very traveled route
