Prosecutors want to pursue the death penalty in the case, but the Supreme Court ruling handed down last week raised questions about whether a death sentence would hold up legally.

During a hearing Tuesday, Orange County Circuit Judge Renee Roche granted the prosecution’s motion to delay the trial against Saint-Simon, which was set to start in March.

The trial is now scheduled for late July to allow for the Florida legislature to address the Supreme Court decision.

Defense attorneys for suspected murderer Sanel Saint Simon filed a motion to suppress his interrogation by Orange County sheriff's investigators being used in his upcoming trial, according to court records.

The motion claims detectives failed to read him his Miranda rights (...)

News 6 got hold of transcripts of the interrogation, where detectives called Saint Simon "a liar" and demanded to know "what really happened?"

Nowhere in the 385 pages is there any mention of Saint Simon being told he had the right to remain silent.

The mother of a murdered 16-year old girl is frustrated about the slow pace of her daughter’s trial.

Orange County deputies said Sanel Saint-Simon, the mother’s boyfriend, beat the teen to death in July 2014.

The judge was unhappy because there are many hearings at the courthouse and it’s hard to find courtroom time, and the family was unhappy because they need to come to another hearing.

Alexandria Chery’s family attends every hearing.

The next hearings are scheduled for June 20 and 24.

Sanel Saint-Simon, 46, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Olympia High School student Alexandria Chery. Attorneys and Judge John Marshall Kest asked jurors about whether they can fit a two-week-long trial into their schedules, whether they know about the high-profile case, and what their personal opinions are about the death penalty.

Life in prison — not death penalty — for Sanel Saint-Simon

Convicted killer Sanel Saint-Simon should get life behind bars — rather than a death sentence — for the murder of 16-year-old Alexandria Chery, a jury decided unanimously on Thursday.

“I honestly can say that they wanted justice, and they thought justice will be either-or,” prosecutor Ryan Williams said of the jurors’ decision. “I just know that Rosalie Joseph told me it’s gonna be OK, and she’s happy, and that makes me feel better. That’s the most important.”

Saint-Simon will be back in court May 18 for a formal sentencing hearing.

'I don't know what happened:' Man convicted of Alexandria Chery's murder sentenced to life in prison
Rosalie Joseph closed her eyes Tuesday as the man convicted of killing her 16-year-old daughter, the man Joseph shared her life with for a decade, apologized and said he had no idea what happened the day Alexandria Chery died.

“I can understand her pain,” Sanel Saint-Simon said though a Haitian-Creole translator Tuesday. “The pain is mine as well. She was my daughter as well. I regret what happened. I will say again that I don’t know what happened, I don’t know. I don’t know where my daughter is, I don’t know. And my mind is wondering, wondering.”

Circuit Judge John Marshall Kest sentenced Saint-Simon Tuesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Joseph did not speak at Tuesday’s hearing.
