The Charlotte County cold case unit is looking for potential clients in two cases; Unidentified bodies found in 2002 and 1980 in Punta Gorda - Published Reporter® | 711web
''1980 Unidentified remains of Akline Road and Tamami Pass

On February 12, 1980, skeletal remains were found in bushland adjacent to the Seaboard Coast Line railroad near Acline and US 41 (Tam Miami Trail) by a bulldozer operator who was clearing trees along the railroad tracks. When the operator noticed the bones, he called the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office who responded to the scene and launched an investigation. While most of the bones were found on Earth, some bones were found during the forensic examination process. Also present during the sifting process were two jewelry rings, a 6-inch silver spoon ring and a 9-inch gold ring with a topaz stone.

On October 11, 2011, the CCSO Cold Case team asked Heather Walsh-Haney, a forensic anthropologist at the University of Florida Gulf Coast, to perform an analysis of the skull. It then issued a report that indicated the victim was a female, between the ages of 18 and 35 and could be of African/Black or Latino/Hispanic descent. The report notes that the time of death could have been anywhere from several months to several years before discovery. However, analysis of the remains of specific fractures of the skull cannot determine whether they occurred before or after death. Her height was estimated to be 5’7 – 5’8″ when the remains were recovered.

In 2021, the CCSO Cold Case asked the forensic imaging team at the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office to prepare a photo of how the victim appeared before she died. Forensic photography specialist Autumn Creek has produced an art show that accompanies it. The artist’s rendition to the victim includes photographs of the two rings that were found with the remains.

Over the years since this person was located, no identifying information has been received and the CCSO Cold Case Team would like to speak to anyone who may have any information regarding this person’s identification or what may have happened to them.''

I've been a crime junkie for years but I've finally decided to jump in and try to make a difference. This particular Jane Doe is where I live and grew up, so this is where I plan to start. I'm not sure how long identification is going to take, but I'm nothing if not tenacious. Excited to join the Websleuths community!

What (if anything) should be done if the location of the remains in NamUs doesn't match the location of the remains as reported by the police? They're only off by ~1.5 miles, but the location pin in NamUs puts the remains as being located in a residential area, which was not the case.

After many hours of searching, I'm concerned that this JD might not have been reported missing. I have found two potential matches that have not been excluded in NamUs. Working to vet, but definitely need more experienced eyeballs :)

  • Race: Black
  • Date of Birth: 08/11/1951 (71)
  • Age: 27 years old
  • Height and Weight: 5'3, 110 pounds
  • Distinguishing Characteristics: African-American female. Black hair, brown eyes. Rucker goes by her middle name, Ann.

Details of Disappearance

Rucker was last seen in Waterloo, Iowa on April 8, 1979. She had recently divorced and was working as a cocktail waitress while her sister cared for her son and two daughters.

On the night of her disappearance, Rucker worked late. She called her sister from a grocery store and asked her to take the children to Rucker's apartment on west Donald Street. Rucker said she would meet them there. She never arrived and has never been heard from again.

Rucker was having problems with a boyfriend at the time of her disappearance and, days before she was last seen, she told the police the man was scaring her. Her family believes this individual murdered her, but he has never been charged in her case.

David Barrett, Rucker's youngest child, who was a baby when she disappeared, was raised first by his grandparents and then by his oldest sister. His father was not a part of his life. He grew up believing his mother had been killed in a car accident, and didn't learn the truth about her disappearance until he was an adult. Barrett became a professional football player and played for the New York Jets and the Arizona Cardinals.

Rucker's disappearance remains unsolved.

A lot of the time the pin is just an estimation.

None of these seem unreasonable. Distance is a little far imo, but it's not out of the realm of possibility.

Jane Doe is listed as Black or Hispanic? Potentially biracial IMO.
Edit: The reason I say this is because Latina women tend to be a bit on the shorter side. Our girl is a little tall. I know some Latina women who are about 5’8” so it’s not impossible but most are about 4’9”-5’2”. Black women tend to be about 5’5”-5’10”. Does she have any DNA available that shows her heritage? I know FL doesn’t tend to cremate Does but if she has been that would suck. I hope we can get DNA from her so we can do genetic genealogy on her remains to positively identify her race or races.

Welcome to Websleuths @GumshoeMama! I joined a month ago after getting into true crime, especially Doe cases, when I was 10. I’m in my late teens now. Interesting that this is a local case! I also focus on some local cases. Tempe Girl 2002 is from the city I was born in and there are a few Does out of Houston, the city I live in now, I focus on too. We’re so glad to to have you here! I’m sure she’ll be identified at some point this year or next year. 2022 and 2023 have been big years for older Doe cases like this one, that are 30-60 years old. Especially the famous ones like Sherri Jarvis (R.I.P.) (FKA Walker County Jane Doe) and Joseph Zarelli (R.I.P. buddy :( ) (FKA as Boy in the Box)

I’ll start looking for some missing women on Namus that resemble her.
Edit: Exclusions?

Might be a stretch but has Angela Allen been suggested? I looked at her side by side with the deceased and the noses look similar IMO. Angela’s face is a little shorter but that may just be the picture. She’s a black woman, missing since Dec. 1979, 5’5”, 135 lbs, 28 years old at the time. Black hair and brown eyes.

Cross posted your suggestion on Angela's thread..

Ann’s picture is not very clear, she’s a bit shorter than our UID but I wouldn’t rule her out on that alone. It’s hard to guess the height based on skeletal remains.
