SARASOTA, Fla. -- A Sarasota teen has been missing now for nearly four months. Police say there are no new updates, but investigators and Jabez Spann’s family hope by raising the reward to fifty-thousand dollars, there will be new leads.
“Not knowing, not knowing where he’s at, what happened. We need closure,” said Latohya Jakes, Jabez’s aunt.
Instead of Christmas decorations, 'Happy Birthday' banners and balloons decorate the front lawn along with a football jersey belonging to now 15-year-old Jabez Spann.
Latohya said, “No one’s been in the holiday spirit. We want to bring him home.”

Could this be Jabez? Hoping for a resolution for his family soon.

That's right by Dona Bay.

I wonder how it got there - if someone chucked a body there - by way of The Legacy Trail nearby? By boat?

The mother of a missing Sarasota teen says 'that was the wrong kid to touch'

Jabez’s mother Tawana Spann gave 10News a rare on-camera interview.

She sends a strong message to anyone responsible for her son’s disappearance.

“That was the wrong kid to touch,” said Tawana. Her 14-year-old son disappeared nearly five months ago on Labor Day. He was last seen walking on his way home.

They should have left that little boy alone because I’m not going to stop!” said Tawana.

The 38-year-old mother says Jabez’s disappearance has impacted his family, his teammates, friends, and community.

Tawana said, “It affected all my family, tearing them apart for those actions alone. Yeah, every day, every day has to be dedicated to me finding him, every day, every day!”

The mother of three vows to bring him home. She said, “He’s coming home with a clear definition of what happened.”

Jabez’s family thinks his disappearance is retaliation.
A week before the teen vanished, a witness told police he and Jabez saw a murder but that witness, 55-year-old Reginald Parker, recanted his story. Police charged Parker with accessory to murder.

“At some point, somebody has to say something, stand up and do something about it,” said Tawana.

But despite a fifty-thousand dollar reward for information, there hasn’t been a break in Jabez’s case.

Is there footage of the vigil? I think someone lured him away after the vigil, saying he had to get out of town and was murdered. If there is video it must be scoured for anyone he interacted with.

More attention being given to Jabez's case. I pray he is date and can come give to his mom.

Jabez has a beautiful smile.

Nancy Grace covered this on her 1/29 podcast. Happy to see this case getting some publicity.

from the family's front lawn.* She believes Jabez witnessed the killing of Travis Combs--and believes someone associated with the murder did something to him, but her focus now is staying vigilant and optimistic.

"I don't even draw a hypothesis anymore.* i don't even draw a conclusion.* all i want right now is for all of us to have the first step of finding him....that's it.* i have high hopes and faith that it will happen very soon."

At this point, the FBI, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Sarasota Police Department have all contributed 50-thousand dollars as a reward for information about the missing teenager. *

"This is a priority case for our detectives at the police department and we honestly believe that someone in our community know something."

I keep waiting for a break in this case for his poor family - such a beautiful young baby boy. I hope the reward money brings them the tip they desperately need.
