Martha White has been in custody since she was accused of murdering her 6-year-old grandson. She is being held in the Leon County Jail on one count of premeditated murder.

According to Chief Assistant State Attorney Georgia Cappleman, White's case is scheduled to go before the grand jury on August 26.

August 26, 2014 Martha White, accused of stabbing & killing her six year old grandson Mason Rhinehart, has been indicted for first degree murder.


Today, a grand jury indicted Martha White on charges of first degree murder and child abuse and prosecutors say they'll now file their intent to seek the death penalty against her.
"We feel like the case warrants the highest punishment permissible and that's the death penalty," prosecutor Georgia Cappleman said.

A judge has ordered White to undergo two mental health evaluations to determine if she is competent to stand trial. A decision has not yet been made on that.

Court records show that a judge ruled White incompetent to proceed after examinations by a pair of psychologists.

White will remain in the state mental hospital until she is found competent to face the murder case against her.

April 2015:

Prosecutors want to start the murder trial and requested the judge to start that process today.

Meanwhile White's attorney wants more time to prepare for the case.

Woman accused of stabbing grandson sentenced to life in prison

Martha White entered a plea this morning and was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the stabbing death of her own grandson, six year old Mason Rhinehart.

Mason's older brother was in court today too. He sat in the front row with a therapy dog at his feet. He wrote a letter which the prosecutor read aloud.

He called the day his brother was killed "the worst day of my life."

Martha White answered all of the judge's questions about the plea agreement, but other than that, did not say a word.
